So here I go again....

Featured Replies

I've gone and let my damned, gotta always have one iron in the fire, self do it again. Im one weekend away from having the Mustang running again after sitting many moons waiting on me to get around to replacing the convertible rear curtain/window that fell out oh so long ago. Once that is done I will only have the quad and a lawn mower to tinker with. We can't have that now can we?

So what do I do instead of just finishing the 11 billion other things I have to do... I go get me another project.

1966 Ford Galaxie 500, one owner car / numbers matching with a small block V8 that needs restoring. Hoo boy here I go again hahaha.

Mustang did someone say mustang!! well let see some pictures Bro and theres nothing wrong with any kind of barn find i rescued a 1960 chevy apache step side short bed, and i am a mustang freek

That's a damned nice fastback there fellah. I don't have any pics of the SN95 on my phone but its a 1995 Vert with a bored and stroked V6 in it. A buddy of mine and I started building V6 Mustang performance parts years ago when I was working at Robins AF Base in Georgia. The motor in this car is a 3.8L thats bored and stroked to 4.3L. Same motor that's in our race car that does 11: 89 sec 1/4 mile naturally aspirated. The same car after we put in subframe connectors and hit it with a 150 Zex nitrous kit did a 10.35 Sec 1/4 and was the first 10 sec. V6 powered Mustang in the US. Mine is the same motor build but without the nitrous or all the other race stuff.

The new project is a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 with the 289 seen below and yes it has 17k original miles and is a numbers matching 1 owner car. Best part of all is im getting her for under a grand. Judging from others of this year and body style if I take my time on the resto she should be worth 40-70k when done but of course I will not sell her. Perfectly straight and with only surface rust, thank you deep south with no salt on the roads ever, this shouldn't be too bad of a restoration.

All the emblems are in tact and every piece of trim is present and accounted for the the only item I've seen that isn't there is the air cleaner and it may be in the trunk. Unfortunately I think the motor is stuck but that's not a big deal as I have unstuck motors before and it's probably just the rings. I am debating about dropping in a built HO 302 out of a 80s Mustang GT and then rebuilding the original Motor and Trans and putting them on the shelf so if I do ever want to sell it I'll have the numbers matching stuff to drop in to boost the value. Doubt I'd ever sell it but hey ya never know, one of those badass GT350/500s may pop up around here and I could be forced to buy it. I've owned 4 Mustangs so yeah im into them as well but I'm really just a car dude in general haha.

I sat down with the lady I bought the car from last night to hammer out some of the paperwork and she gave me a lot of history on the car and the original owner, her aunt. Really cool to have a classic where I can trace it from the plant to my garage and know that it's only ever seen 2 states and I have lived in both hahaha.

Well sometimes I'm my own worst enemy. I have the White 4 door at the house in the garage and im starting to break it down. Took the hood off and the hood related trim. Then took the carb off and removed the belts. I was driving down the road and what do i see? a 1965 Galaxie 2 door fastback with a big block motor in it and the trans, c6, that came in it with for sale written on the front window.

I look at it and it's rough. By rough I mean, you can sit in the driver's seat and look over into the back and see the ground, rough. I take the number down of the business and forget about it for a couple of weeks. I find the number and decide to call it. The owner of the shop is letting a guy display the car there and wants 1000.00 for it. I kind of chuckle , the shop owner says yeah I know, and I bid him adieu.

Fast forward to yesterday i call the shop owner back and get the guys number and go all Gas Monkey Garage on him, and rightly so as the car will have to have extensive sheet metal work done on it to make it safe to drive not counting the cosmetic stuff, so i offer him 400.00 if he wants to unload it. I call him this AM to see what his thoughts were and he said if i can come up to 500.00 it's a deal. So I will own 2 in a week or so hahahaha.

This one has the 352 Ford FE big block in it and is a fastback so it's full on muscle car / 1960s NASCAR. Think this one will be built first but my only question is once its running with good body panels do i paint it up street rod fashion or to match one of the old NASCAR cars? Im leaning toward the historical NASCAR paint since I can look at the Darlington NASCAR track from my backyard less than 1/2 a mile away. Would be really cool to have during race weeks.

This is what she would resemble:
