Homepage hijacked by something :/ Help!

Hey guys. I need some help. I have a IE at home and it got hijacked by something. The homepage is set to "about:blank" and it transferres me to some "SmartSearch" page. I tried just plain changing the homepage. Then deleting all hitory and coockies. Then Ad-Aware, SpySweeper, Spyware S&D and CWShredder. Nothing helps. It keeps coming back the moment it gets deleted (if at all). Changing things in the registry didn't help much either. Anyone has any ideas or knows how to help my problem? Please help :)
any websites you regular besides TA that could be setting this?

Yes :)

I don't know if you mean that in a perverted way or a "he's actually got a life" way. You confused me. Good job.

Regular? No. But I do believe it was some kind of a "perverted" (as you said it :) ) site that did this to me. I don't think that a sie is doing this to me, I believe it's some spyware or some other virus-like program on my computer, but I just can't find it. It's not that I don't watch myself wandering through different websites, but this thing got me in a dead end. I really don't know what to do with it. :/
that happened to my brother's computer up in his room. I've tried everything from deleting/re-installing the IE file to going through the individual files. If you really want it gone, I would hire a professional. Either that or get Mac to help you out :)

go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

and download HighJackThis, run its scan then copy and paste the log on Wilders security forums "Browser Hijacks and Spyware Problems" section and ask for help.

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php?

ONLY USE HighJackThis WITH SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS FROM LICENSED SPYWARE/ADWARE EXPERTS, OR INTERNET COPS.

it also would be a good idea to download CWSshredder from merijn and run that program.

Statecop and the guy who made the "hijack this" and "cwshredder" are my heros for the next few days :)
exact same thing happened to me man. i got so pissed at IE that i said screw it. i got mozilla and i am never looking back. mozilla is great. does so much for me. i like the tab thing too. you can get it at www.download.com

and, as people before me have said, your best bet to get rid of basically every internet browser problem is to get Mozilla Firefox

I'm using it, and ever since switching over from Internet Explorer, I havn't looked back.

Internet Explorer now just seems so basic and dull compared to firefox

you should get it

www.mozilla.org

i bought an adware remover for 25 bucks last christmas. havnt had a prob since then.

Sometimes it's good to buy something to keep yourself honest! Also, you're sure it is going to work properly and not give you more Kazaa virusii.

I too have had this problem, a few months ago..... can be a real pain. You probably have tried to reset your homepage by typing in what you like. (not a possible fix)You can set the your homepage to default, restart your computer, then change to your preferred homepage..... this has worked most of the time.If it doesn't run spysweeper, AVG6, you will get about 4 files.one will be in your registryone will be in your temporary internet filestwo will be in your Restore files.you can manually edit the registry file by going to start, run, typing in regedit, then locate the file using the path given by AVG6.you can open IE, go to tools, options, and delete your cookies and temporary internet files, (probably a good idea to clean your history too)С:\_RESTORE folder is a peculiar feature of Windows ME. You need to switch System Restore off. Do it this way: right-click on My Computer icon and left-click Properties in the appearing menu. Press the "File system" button on one of the tabs. When the window appears go to the last tab ("Troubleshooting") and check the last option ("System Restore Support"). Press OK. Close all windows and reboot the computer.BTW.... one virus program is never enough!!Use two or three to catch and remove about 95% of the trash out there.I use spysweeper, spybot search and destroy, and AVG6...sometimes I revert to cwshredder and highjackthis(but not to much) all of these are free.....hope this helps!!
that spyware thats the problem is one of the toughest to delete, you often have to know thew reight registry key to look for
