July 26, 200421 yr For those of you who do not know me, I am Gator, the founder of The Armory Clan <TAC>. I will try to explain the chain of events that have taken place with TAC since we ventured outside of Firearms. This is a very condensed version, as many things have happened in recent times: DESERT COMBAT: Late last year, Macgyver and I were talking one day about different clan issues, and he brought up the topic of an FPS game he played called Battlefield 1942, and in particular, he mentioned a modern warfare mod to BF1942 called "Desert Combat" (DC). I purchased the game and gave it a test drive. Everyone could see that FA was dying a slow death, so we started to look at other games on the market so we could stay together as a group of gaming friends. I entered a large DC server and was truly amazed at how amazingly cool? Desert Combat played. The game was very exciting with fast heart-pounding action. I was amazed at the graphics quality and functionality that literally brought the game to life I was in game shock to say the least. I immediately set up a test server and we started to play DC. More and more TAC members purchased BF1942, so we more or less had an instant following with a large internal player base. BATTLEIELD VIETNAM: It seems we just got started with DC when BF:Vietnam came along. It was a new, it played like BF1942, but had greater functionality a new and improved game engine. StateCop announced the pending release of BF:Vietnam to everyone, so anticipation grew as days passed. I was a little skeptical of BF:Vetnam, because I had just purchased BF1942, and liked to play DC, but I kept an open mind and purchased my own copy of BF:Vietnam. Anyway, Vietnam was released and was an immediately well liked by many TAC members. I shutdown the DC server one day and brought up a BF:Vietnam server to test it out. The server was empty at the time, so I didn't think anyone would mind. Well, a few senior members got a little perturbed at me, and ended up ridiculing me for my actions. Because of this, I went out on my own and purchased an additional server to run BF_Vietnam. Subsequently, the clan as a whole picked up the tab for the server as there were many who enjoyed playing the game. Many of the DC members converted over to BF:Vietnam, so DC was left with a big void of active players. We had just entered into the DC CAL league, so it was a confusing and emotional time for some DC players. The BF:Vietnam players continued to support and play in the DC CAL League, but they eventually the numbers started to drop and fade away into the sunset. I blame that solely on lack of interest and inadequate leadership. JOINT OPERATIONS - TYPHOON RISING: Then, just a few months after we started to play BF:Vietnam, Joint Operations (JO) was released. A few of our TAC members (one in particular) liked it so much; they started to promote it. Players were pulled from our other games and thus created a void in our BF:Vietnam player base. Desert Combat, already hurting for players, was totally and complately devastated, and no longer exisits as an active game for TAC. This was primarily due to lack of participation. Well, I personally tried the JO demo and did not like it, but that's my personal opinion. I noticed a few TAC members making posts promoting JO wherever they could in the TAC forums, so I felt compelled to give my opinion and commentary to these posts as I felt the game was not all what they were claiming it was. This eventually led to an ugly disagreement and subsequent argument between me and a longstanding TAC Senior counsel member. We have spoken since then and have worked things out between us. I was told that the retail version was better, so being open minded, I purchased a copy and gave it a try. It was no different from the Demo, but I did play for a while to see if I could make myself like it Well, it just did not work for me, and I am still a big fan of BF:Vietnam today. There are a number of TAC members that simply love Joint Operations, and just can't get enough of it. It really comes down to personal choice and/or preference. The key word here is choice meaning it is not mandatory for anyone to purchase either of the games to be active in the clan. I would like to, however, recommend that members try the game demos before you make your choice, and do not be influenced by the opinions of a select few. I tried the Far Cry demo the other day and found that to be an awesome game. So where do we go from here? Well, Firearms, BF:Vietnam, and Joint Operations are still very active here at TAC, but I cannot predict the future of any of them. I can say, however, that I personally will be playing BF:Vietnam until the release of BF2 in the spring of 2005. I also look forward to a new BF_Vietnam mod coming out for that will feature modern combat. It's called Point of Existance and sure looks very exciting and cool with modern/experimental aircraft. Here is there link: http://www.planetbattlefield.com/poe/ I also look forward to Battlefield 2 when it comes out. I would like to see TAC move to BF2 when it comes out, and to focus more on one game and not be divided by so many. This will enable for better cohesion amongst the TAC members, and will keep the server populated as it needs to be. Please add you comments

Yeah, that was the best part  FA is still up and running, and those who play it are solely commited on keeping it alive (e.g. SS6 ) I still like FA better than any other game we play, its just so much fun, especially in FAL matches and fun matches. -Sock
July 26, 200421 yr well it sounds like the best decision would be to drop Desert Combat, due to lack of players, and focus on these three games (FA, BFV, and JO) because they have the most players. this PoE mod just looks like Desert Combat with prettier graphics and a few extra things thrown in.I, for a variety of reasons, didn't like DC so much. So when the BFV section, and now JO servers opened up, I was glad that I could finally join my clanmates in other games besides FA.So yea, having just these three games (FA,BFV, JO) basically gives the majority of the clan what they all wanted. Right now everyone seems happy, because everyone has a game they like. Some don't like these new games so they play Firearms. Others believe Firearms is dead/dying and have moved to these other games.I really don't see a big problem. I would drop Desert Combat, because people just arn't playing it anymore. Simple as that really. And as you said, it's all about Choice"I still like FA better than any other game we play, its just so much fun, especially in FAL matches and fun matches. "(sorry, this french keyboard doesn't have brackets)same here, I still love and play Firearms whenever I can. TA should stand with Firearms until we're the last server. Then we can seriously think about dropping it...
July 26, 200421 yr I hear ya gator, my plan was to stick with BFV and move to BF2 just like you were thinking, while trying things out on the side, like JO.I predict things will pick up again in BFV with the release of the 1.1 patch. A heat seeking MUTT will have a significant impact on gameplay. ;)I'm a strong believer that good controls and simple gameplay will always beat out clunky "for realisim" controls found in games like JO, so the battlefield series of games should have some staying power.
July 26, 200421 yr Listen guys ive played on ur servers since like February. (the DC and BF:Vietnam servers that is) And i to noticed a trend. It is sad to see so many games dissapear so fast. Thats why probably i have a born hate for JO. It was just so much fun playing BF:Vietnam and now i see the server empty almost 90% of the time. For me also i dont like JO but that is my opinion. Now the future is important. I stopped playing BF:Vietnam so much due to lack of players. I simply cannot go on other people's servers. I just got used to the fun we had on Ventrillo while playing toghether. And laughing and the funny kills/crashes of choppers in the game. I certainly hope i can re live those moments with u guys. Hopefully it will be when BF2 comes out. But sadly thats kinda far away and 9 months is a long time for me.

Things will pick up again Mano...I relocated to another State, and have not been able to play as of late. I hope to get on tonight and play...even if I'm the only one on the server...lol

July 26, 200421 yr Well said Gator. Different people, like different games. The armory is running, with three at the moment popular games.Thats enough and iI think that is a good way to go in the future. And the future will bring some good games, which could be worthy enough to run more servers. Like i said in another post: its useless for a clan to run (and pay) a server if no one or only a few is playing on it.I hope the armory will always run servers, that are popular. And at the moment its BF-V and JO. DC would run always on my server, because i like it, but the world does not end, if DC is not here anymore. If you dont mind, I will pm you on other occasion in the near future to discuss some issues about that.Hasta la vista
July 26, 200421 yr Since this is technically no longer a DC clan and I'm in DW solely for Desert Combat. Could I fill out an application to be a BF: Vietnam member?
July 26, 200421 yr On the other side of the coin Mano, I became less than amused with "funny" chopper kills upon dying 20 times in a row with no feasible concealment or retailiation. THats the beuty of the game. Heck i was killed 50 times in a row. The sweetest thing is revenge. Because it will not carry on forever. Plus in 1.1 Marines will get Stingers so it should be all good.
July 26, 200421 yr Death of TA FA means the end of the Emperor's Dream. In particular, the death of TK421 Garrison itself.
July 26, 200421 yr fa is still very alive i was just in the serv on a monday at about 11am est it was 26/26and with the death of our beloved won we should be getting even more players
July 26, 200421 yr well the pattern seems to me that guys will buy a game, like bfV and play it for a few months, then when something else comes out everyone moves to that game and so on... this may be ok for people with lots of money to buy these new games, but i would like to play DC and bfV still, but find no body else doing so... i am relucant to buy JO, bucause i know it will die as fast as bfV or DC
July 26, 200421 yr FA 4 Life. Heh, I still love playing the game and I enjoy playing with the guys that continue to do so on the server. FAL matches and scrims make the game even more exciting as well. I'll play until the servers die.

FAL matches and scrims make the game even more exciting as well. I'll play until the servers die. As will I. FA was the first FPS I have ever played, and it was on the armory that i played it o.0. I will play it till it is the last server out there. long live FA. And your right Gator. its a prefrence of choice. Diversity among colleges is good when it comes to the point of choice. I dont care for BF:V when compared to JO. JO just seems more FUN. But no matter what happens in the future I will always remember the first time I played FA and I shot a shotgun at Hayabusa in cold war and pushed him into the river (at the bridge) because both teams looked the same on my crappy computer. good times. good times. -G
July 26, 200421 yr Gator lives in Campy-Country now muhahaha - we'll setup new as the Armory Warriors or something cheesy like that
July 26, 200421 yr whoa whoa whoayou can't really compare the controls and complexity of Joint Ops to Ghost Recon or America's Army!I fired up the demo and basically knew the controls from the start. They're basically the same as every other FPS. It isn't THAT complex
July 26, 200421 yr i say if you wanna debate JO vs w/e move to another thread? this is about the future. heh-G
July 26, 200421 yr Ok...to respond to the topic's questionDC, in the TA clan, is dying. Dead even.FA, is dying as a game, but still has the life of an 8 year old here in the clan.So really, I think we should drop the dead weight that's sucking on our resources and make the clan a 3 game clan. FA, BFV, and JO
