August 1, 200421 yr Maia 8 week old AKC German Shepherd. Wanted one forever, finally found the right one. She's a female, and right now, her main intention is to be a family dog, but I do have a thought in the back of my head of getting her trained in Arson Investigation... August 1, 200421 yr Is this photo coming from your PC? The reason I say this is we have a Gallery you can upload to on the website.
August 1, 200421 yr Author Gator, its coming from the racing website I'm a member of, but I'll keep that in mind. 135#, man, is it a Shiloh Shepherd? Mines a female, and may get to 100#, possibly a little bigger. TFD
August 1, 200421 yr it looks sad... you shoulda take him out of his cage and ruffled his feathers and then took a pix of him hyper. -G
August 1, 200421 yr Author Definately not sad, more like tired.. Her and my kids have been having a blast together. Kids wear her out, and she goes back into her crate/kennel (voluntarily) and sleeps for 2 hours. LOL I'll get another pic of her later to show her, that one was taken, only a few hours after I got her home.TFD
August 1, 200421 yr i just got a german shepard too, its about 10 1/2 weeeks old now her name is Rocky and she is always wanting to play
August 2, 200421 yr Author Here's another one (a little better pic) of her. Caught her scratching at her harness, which she's still not sure she likes. Got the harness rather than a collar, so she doesn't get choked, and helps in training. At 8 weeks old, she weighed 15 lbs.. TFD http://69.41.232.20/files/maia2.jpg
August 2, 200421 yr Congratz!! she looks cute and healty.I got a belgian sheppard myself (a mallinois to be more precise) which i had trained for search and rescue (drowned victims, rubble and wilderness). I had to quit it though (my ex was the trainer of the team). Is this gonna be your first dog which you intend to train for arson investigation? Good luck with it anyways and i'de be glad to help you out if you run into problems (health probs included, i have almost finished vet school)*edit* and my compliments to choosing the harnass, though it might confuse her a bit once you start tracking (with a harnass as well) with her. you should use a different harnass then if possible.
August 2, 200421 yr Author Very cool ike, I'll keep that in mind. I'm not 100% descided yet on the Arson dog or not yet. I realize I gotta make that descision soon though. If I do, Maia and I will have to go somewhere together for school.. TFD
August 2, 200421 yr best thing to start with is find something to play with which freaks her out. once you got that figured out, stick to it. if she wants to gnaw on your shoes, use the toy to distract her, her whole energy has to become focused to it. so if you withhold it, she's gonna find every arson in the world, 'cause she knows she'll get that toy as a reward.there are a lot of rules which you'll have to learn her, but rule number one which you yourself should learn:the dog is ALWAYS rightyou might not see it, snif it or understand it untill years later, but the dog is ALWAYS right.
