i played the stress test beta and boy was it a lot of fun, i dint usually like mmorpg's but im definately getting this one, its really a blast to play
me and my friends are all buying it, and we're going to be a roving band of PVP Horde creatures!searching the countryside for human/dwarf/elf flesh!
I have never played an MMORPG, or even been interested in playing one. BUT WoW sounds like fun. I loved WC3 (when I actually HAD my disk :D )I wanted to get in those betas to try it out. It's not a monthly fee type game is it?
Yeah, it's a monthly fee. If it wasn't, I'd definatly get it. But, since it is, no way am I buying it.

Well the same goes for me then. No matter what the price is, I have neither the time to play or the money to justify a monthly fee. :( Better to have nice stuff for myself than my Elf :D

But I guess that is the point. Why waste server bandwith and space saving players for someone who plays once a week.

if you guys are looking for a GREAT mmorpg that is 100% free to play wiht NO hidden charges, then look no further. http://www.guildwars.com/

guildwars is a somewhat team play style mmorpg thats being made by ArenaNet, a company that was founded by 3 ex Blizzard employees, one of wich is the creator of BattleNet.

no, the creators of diablo II left a while ago from Blizzard North and formed their own company with some other indutry vets, and i might get guild wars as well, cause it looks good, but im going to wait and see if gameplay is any good first
If your worried about a montly fee... dont :D $15 a month for fixes, content, and continuing story line isnt bad.i mean, $15 bucks is just enough to go see a movie and get popcorn. movie = 2-3 hoursWoW = On demand, 24/7 all you want.I tried it at a friends house, early in the closed beta. I only got a hour but it was still fun. Stress test rolls around, and I get into the real meat of the game. Its fun, looks good, and has plenty of style. As for guild wars... *insert drool emote here*I tried it when it was opened to the public for 3 days. EVEN IN ITS ALPHA build it was near flawless. It ran fast, smooth, and looked awsome. It has more of a PvP focus and I would call it the FPS of MMO's. All I can say ill keep my eye on both.

i dont think they have set a price yet have they?
In case you missed my name change...this is Spydir.I bet I get flamed for this but here goes anyway.I will definately Not be playing World of Warcraft. WoW is for less experienced MMORPG gamers. It is built to function on a much smaller scale than EverQuest II. Optimal hunting parties in WoW consist of 4 players or so compared to 6 for EverQuest II. WoW feels like a MMO Diablo II combined with DAoC. The game world itself is much smaller than EverQuest II. Levels come much quicker and equipment as well. WoW lacks the aspects of gaming I play for. There is virtually no end-game. I will be playing EverQuest II. I will be leading a Freeport based end-game guild. Our focus will be locating, evaluating, and overcoming the game's massive ammounts of end-game content (raids, instanced encounters, serverwide quests, guild prestige, iPvP, etc). I played EverQuest II for almost 5 years. I have a lot of experience leading raids. I have played WoW alpha and I have no desire to play it retail. Sony has created a type of gameplay which cannot be replicated. World of Warcraft will appeal to those players who cannot or choose not to come home and dedicate 6+ solid hours to playing....Every Day. If you fall into that category then I think you will definately enjoy WoW. Words do not describe Everquest. The scripted events and character flagging progression system brings about so much guild competition and a desire to push foward. It isn't a game. It is a way of life. If you want to come home and hop online with 50 of your guildies and wait for the broadcast from your leader/raid officer telling you whats going down that evening then play EverQuest II. Finding out that a mob (thats on a 3 day +-4 hour spawn timer) is up tonight and that killing it means your character will be able to access 4 new zones, better armor, harder mobs, etc is invigorating. Watching the main tanks HP jump from 10% to 100% as the target beats away at him knowing that a single second of delay by one of the enchanters casting Rune on him could cause the entire raid force to wipe is exhilarating. If a cleric misses his spot in the heal rotation, everyone might die. You spent the last 2 hours killing clearing trash mobs, killing trigger mobs at just the right time, going over the strategy, prepping and finally engaging the mob. You want to WIN!My guild, Shadowborne is currently accepting applications. Feel free to apply and mention TAC.
honestly, I think rpgs=BORING with a capital B, but that's just me...Give me a good FPS any day...

the graphics for EQ2 ive seen look sucky. and thier is no pvp at all.
everquest never really impressed me, it required too much time, too much dedication, and as very difficult for new players to get into, and it seems more like WoW and GW are shout the everquest games should have been, simple to play, great graphics, a lot of fun. The thing that sets WoW apart from the rest is the setting, Warcraft boasts one of the richest game universes ever, which provides it the option to interweave stories from other warcraft titles, an option neither guild wars nor everquest really have. Its easy to get around in WoW, and npc dialogue is pretty good for a genre that usually skimps on it. Also, the settings look AMAZING. Anyone who has played wc3 will even be able to recognize things from the campaign. Most importantly, in my opinion, Blizzard games always have a little something mroe than almost any other developer out there: polish, and its that extra effort that can make or break a game. Considering most people will be able to have fun in warcraft both if they do play 6+ hours a aday or if they dont play every day at all, it seems like a good deal to me. What remains to be seen is how Guild wars is going to come out, being made by former blizzard north employees, we can probably expect similar production values and quality

nich,

Indirect PVP is a competition between opposing players or factions that does not directly involve combat. EQII will have a complex system of iPVP that allows players and guilds to advance through the social structure of their chosen city. Participation in this system will be optional.

Just as the original EverQuest was geared towards PvE (player vs. environment), EverQuest II has a similar focus. PvP combat will be possible, yet in a way that does not negatively affect non-PvP players.

WoW's forced teams are kinda poopy IMO. As for EQII's graphics, at release no system on the market will be capable of running at max graphic settings. You haven't seen ANY screenshots from the new particle engine unless you've played beta, and you haven't. EQ was and still is the most popular MMORPG in existance. I expect EQII will dominate as well.

Repo, I totally agree with you. For the Diablo II/Lineage/DAoC type player WoW will be the greatest thing since sliced bread. EverQuest has been and will continue to be in a league of its own so it isn't really fair to compare the two. Anyone who does chose to play however will be instantly accepted as an app w/o votes to my guild for trial. :D I wasn't dissing WoW its just not my thing. Its too much of a "game." I don't want to play I want to conquer.

forced teams? um thats how the warcraft story goes. alliance against the horde. i dont see how they could have done it another way.btw how can you conqure anything if you cant attack other players?
EQ is the absolute extreme of PvE. It takes way too long to explain. Killing a mob that quads for 1/2 your best tanks HP and has an AE that will wipe the entire raid every few seconds is quite challenging...even with a max raid force of 72 players. I don't like direct PvP because it brings out the "counter-strike mentality." EQ is based on guilds. If you want to get anywhere you must be an efficient force. The player flag system prevents players from being able to access end-game content without progressing through the lower and middle content first. When I walked up to someone in EQ1 there was no question in that player's mind that they were staring at one of the top paladins on the server. People knew what most of my gear was, and they knew where it came from. That brought about a great ammount of respect. It was that way for everyone in the guild. You work hard for eachother and in the end you've got one uber bunch of folks who know how to work with eachother. By the time you start farming the end-game more content will be released.Like I said they are 2 completely different games and should not even be in the same category. They appeal to completely different types of players. I suspect some EQ players will be sick of the drama from EQ1 and will more to the more relaxed WoW world. I suspect some WC fans will also feel WoW is too small and move to EQII. Neither game is better so to speak. Its all preference.
well, WoW does have guilds as well, and for people who are unable to get 50 people together on a regular basis (though it has been done quite a lot in the beta) will probably like the instanced quests in WoW more, as if youre skilled enough you only really need a party. Both games (and i assume guild wars will too) have massive game worlds, not even counting instanced dungeons and quests, although i don't like the forced sides in WoW either because A.) if you played wc3 you'd know that the orcs are no longer evil, and were fighting on the same side as the alliance last time i checked and B.) all the cool ads that show a human paladin questing with a tauren warrior and a NE druid can't happen now :-P
My guild, Shadowborne is currently accepting applications. Feel free to apply and mention TAC.

So, recruiting is allowed here now. Neato.

Give me a good FPS any day...

Yes, definatly.
i dont agree. i LOVE rpg's. i like gettin into a game holeheartly. there is something dif when compared to FPS, which i love so very very much.-G

EQ/EQII arent really games. More of an online world/universe/life. They are stressful and everything has long term consequences/benefits. Firearms was my stress reliever when I was playing EQ. There is nothing like shooting people in the face to relax to after a hard day of raiding.

edit: back to the question of whether or not EQII or WoW is better I found the following article:

Much as I said. But now you don't have to take my word for it.
