Great Camping, Good Times

Featured Replies

Well I got back from camping Saturday, a little early than planned because a few guys needed to get back to do something Sunday. Seven of us went, all friends since elementary school. We headed up north (a bit of a drive) to the beginnings of the Sierra Nevadas where we would hike in. Left the car (Yukon XL for the seven of us, loaded up full) in the smallest town I've ever seen and then hit the trail. Now I've done a lot of camping/hiking and running distances for CC year round, but this had to be the toughest hiking I've done. Elevation dropped 1200 ft in about 1/2 mile with little switch backs - just one of the hills we had to go over. The trail did not ride the ridge line for the most part, so it was up/down hill a lot of the way. We were all very tired when we got to camp.

The campsite was very cool. Someone already had a fire pit with some flat rocks for seating around it. Plus, our spot was right on the American River, with a smaller estuary close by as well. I got a fire going while the rest set up camp in the last hour of light. We threw some potatoes with tin foil around them into fire to make baked potatoes - which turned out pretty well. Afterwards we just sat around the fire talking of old times and things to come.

The rest of the days were filled with fishing by the river, exploring the area, and the general camping passtime stuff. Sitting around the campfire was a lot of fun at night. Can't remember the last time I laughed so much. We'll probably head to the Sierra Nevadas again for some camping. Thinking Trinity Alps or Desolation Wilderness...but we will see.

Too many stories to tell, perhaps catch me on Vent sometime and I can further explain.

Without further ado, pictures (someone brought a digital camera!). :)

where did you go? i backpacked to barny lake last year

About 30 minutes from Auburn, out of a town called Michigan Bluff. Old mining town and run down mines where we were - I'm fairly sure we saw a gold mine but it was across the river with no way across.

Im not a huge fan of camping, i like the nature and stuff, but i tend to complain after walking for awhile

Looks like Extreme fun, One challenge I want is to travel through some Tundra, or Arctic Terrain =D

You sound like my little brother.

I love camping, especially when you go with other people who actually know what they're doing, instead of you city folks who can't start a fire without a lighter (though it is much easier). Bringing the acoustic always lets us have some fun singing at the top of our lungs :)

Sure fun to have an acoustic, though its not much fun to carry on longer hikes. But yea, camping is a lot of fun with a group of guys you know and are friends with.
