Here's a snippet from the BF2 Readme file. (I only included the requirements and performance issue areas):

Thank you for purchasing Battlefield 2.

Hard Drive Space

================================================== ======================

To install Battlefield 2 you will need approximately 2.3 GB free

hard disk space, plus space for saved games. Additional space is

required for DirectX 9 installation.

In addition to the installed game, Windows will require additional

free hard drive space for its operating system (virtual memory).

If you encounter the following message in an error dialog:

"Ran out of virtual memory"

Free up some more hard drive space.

Improving Gameplay Performance

================================================== ======================

Some machines will benefit from experimenting with your

Network / Video / Sound options:

INTERNET / NETWORK PERFORMANCE

This section is very important to experiencing good internet play!

- JOINING MULTIPLAYER GAMES:

To get the best performance on your computer we recommend

you follow these guidelines:

HARDWARE

Minimum system - Join servers that have up to 16 players

Recommended systems - Join servers that have up to 32 players

High end systems - Join servers that have up to 64 players

BANDWIDTH

ISDN users - Join games with a maximum of 16 players.

ADSL/Cable users - Join games with a maximum of 32 players.

T1/LAN users - Join games with a maximum of 64 players.

================================================== ======================

DEDICATED SERVER

================================================== ======================

We highly recommend Battlefield 2 servers are run on dedicated server

platforms. Currently, the best performance is on a machine with the

following specifications:

LINUX

- Minimum Specification, based on playing a 16 player game:

CPU: 1 Ghz

RAM: 256 Mb

- Recommended Specification, based on playing a 64 player game:

CPU: 3 Ghz. For AMD Athlon 64 CPU: 3500+ (2.2 Ghz)

RAM: 1 Gb

WINDOWS

- Minimum Specification, based on playing a 16 player game:

CPU: 1 Ghz

RAM: 384 Mb

- Recommended Specification, based on playing a 64 player game:

CPU: 3 Ghz. For AMD Athlon 64 CPU: 3500+ (2.2 Ghz)

RAM: 1 Gb

BANDWIDTH

- Minimum

2.5 Mbit

- Recommended

5Mbit

As always if you can increase any of the above hardware you will

improve your overall gameplay experience.

FIREWALL

The use of a software firewall on the server is not recommended,

as it can adversely affect server performance and the overall

gameplay experience.

Unless minimum spec testing reporting has improved over last 5 yrs. My experience is you want a hair over minimum or you'll have crappy performance, atleast in multiplayer with more then a handful of palyers. Best to be close to suggested specs.

Doesn't look promising for us.

Tiger and I hair under specs with 2 identical pcs of p4-1.5 mhz(specs ask for 1.7), 512mb mobo ram(specs say that min, suggest 1gb), Nvidia Geforce FX 5200-128 mb (specs require 5700+ 128mb min, suggest 256mb).

And although Futureshop says full retail will work with win98se, I doubt it as this mistake has happened before. They didn't make demo work for 98 so not likely the retail will either folks.

I would try demo to see how it performs if it worked with 98 before getting retail, to know if shade under min specs matter much. Acquaintance I copied demo on cd for said friend of his in pc store would give him copy of winxp, commercial version, but i not sure if that would be like 30 day demo of xp until i register online or what. he left in hurry for bus. i asume i would have to register, pay online to get actual xp key# . Anyone know about this ?

Atlest then i could try demo in 1 pc to see how it run.

Don't think I can run demo :) ... still trying to fix it... my oldest is looking into this for me also! :) My son "JMan1001" is playing and I may havr to use his system till I get it figured out....soon I hope! Peace  -chappy
No problem for me. Every of my pc's meets it. And the Demo runs fine so far.

I think my compy can handle it, I just recently upgraded its video card and ram.

I can run Doom 3, Farcry, and Half Life 2 on the their highest settings with over 60fps so I'm hoping BF2 will run well.

Pentium 4 3.06Hhz 800Mhz FSB

1536mb 184 pin PC 3200 DDR

MSI GeForce 6600GT 128mb. (550 core/1050 mem)

Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS

Ti4200?

We have, my son and me, burned the rams of 3 nvidia Ti4200 with 128MB. on board and had been replaced by 1 fx5600 128MB. on mine pc, 1 fx5600 256MB. but selled and 1 fx5900 128MB. for my son.

I have replaced my fx5600 128MB. by a fx5700 serie 128MB. = best but the pc can't fellow this card : some self resets sometime because the drivers have problems with the old Asus A7v133 motherboard...

My son have an Asus A7n8x since 1 year and 10 month ago and he don't have any problem(s)???

Egidio.

in case it helps you, my nvidia gforce fx 5200-agp-128mb won't run bfv with newer drivers, but runs it fine with drivers from about 2 yrs back. i suspect they stopped coding win98 compatability in them. may not apply to you if you have xp.
I CANT PLAY IT!!!! the specs of my computer are more than enough to run the game....but!!!!! I have a gerfoce4 and with battlefield 2 it doesnt not run with geforce 2

sorry about necropost, but i didn't start it and besides, in the interest of helping others know their options with BF2, I think helpful info is okay.

Since thread brought back up i see now i gave less detail then i could have so here it is :

a p4-1.5mhz, 512 mb ram, 128 mb vid card will run BFV in win98se or xp and BF2 will run not bad in xp for us.

but experiment with video card and sound card drivers. mostly video drivers as sometimes the newest drivers no work or are worse for a substandard system since newer drivers are designed for more up to date pc specs. so if probs, uninstall those and install next older, or next older before that, and so on. as this may find older driver that works best with your older pc. :peace:

I selled the fx5600 128MB. and my son buied an asus nvidia 6800 ultra 256MB. = very nice video card!I assembled a new pc with an Asus A7V8x-x mobo & Athlon xp 2600+ and my son give me his old video card nvidia fx5990 128 MB. (1 year)

All is good on bf2... But sometime ping are scarying or like Mac: a weird....
