June 12, 200520 yr Anyone got any insight on this car? I'm thinking about buying one for a toy car since they are hot and super small. Porshe too pricey for a secondary vehicle..
June 12, 200520 yr Well if you can afford it. Go for it. I would check into all the 2 seaters out there first. Pontiac Solstice is coming out soon. Uber Good Looks. 175hp. Mazda Miata is getting a lot more power next year. 180hp next year. I know it is not really a two seater but the Mini Cooper "S" fast and a blast to drive. If you want to get looked at. Get the new Mustang GT for a really fair price vs performance.
June 13, 200520 yr Author Thx Mac. When I first saw the Solstice I was like OMG where do I get one. Then I read that it was the product of some reality TV show marketting challenge. The Apprentice or something. Apparently it looks hot but sucks nuts for performance. Miata's scare me and Coopers look strange. The thing that scares me about the Spyder is that Toyota hasn't released ANY safety test results since the launch of the model in 2001. I can't find crash tests or anything. Have any of you cops seen post-crash Spyders? Wish I hadn't got the GS 300 already. Lotus Elise are only 44k now. Can anyone think of a small 2 door I've overlooked?
June 13, 200520 yr Honda S2000 are nice. Acura R series have 2 doors with 4 seats and are very fast. Probably the most hp per litre out there.
June 13, 200520 yr Mac i'm big on cars and it depends on which MR2 you get. I personally like the looks of the 1992 to 1995. Its a mid engine rear wheel drive car... They have a Turbo model and a non turbo model Here is a link for some more info
June 13, 200520 yr Author I'm focussing my sights on a 2003 or newer MR2 Spyder (the rebirth of the old MR2). They added a bunch of features like a 6 speed Sequential Transmission. It has no clutch and you shift Indy style on the steering wheel. That would be sweet because I could rip the stock wheel out and put in a Sparco wheel with paddle shifters. I had totally forgotten the S2000 existed lol. I also just remembered the Audi TT is pretty damn nice. Kind of a pain to modify the TT though. Oh and Nadril...I said only cuz Lotus used to be super rare and expensive. 44k for a high-end car isn't that bad anymore. You'll pay more for an Escalade (vomit). This is a 2003 MR2 Spyder I'm inquiring about. Only 8,900 miles on it. Gotta get the VIN checked out first. Seller is 7 miles from my house according to the search thingy...however it doesn't say where exactly. Hope I get a reply soon. http://images.autobytel.com/web/fsbo/i140359_1.jpg
June 13, 200520 yr Here are some S2000 pics. /monthly_06_2011/post-38-13081017323_thumb.jpg /monthly_06_2011/post-38-130810173238_thumb.jpg
June 13, 200520 yr Get a WRX STi, or at least a WRX. I'm planning on selling my car this summer and getting a STi. Insane aftermarket, and the best AWD system developed.
June 13, 200520 yr Yeah I was gonna get an STI but then i realized that it was way outta my price range for being 20 yrs old and now i've decided to go with a 2001 honda prelude type s 200 hp vtec inline 4 53k miles for 13k
June 13, 200520 yr I'm thinking about selling my SXT this summer and getting a base WRX or find somewhere that can give me a STi for a decent price (Yes I realize those contradict each other, but I can dream.)
June 13, 200520 yr Author Thank you for your interest in a 2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder. Since Toyota > has discontinued the MR2 Spyder it will get increasingly difficult to find > exactly what you want. At this time I do not have any used > ones. I do have a new 2005 white MR2 available right now. It is > > priced at $27,429. > > Jim Baer > Internet Manager > > Family Toyota Figures. I find a tuner car I really like and its being discontinued. Sorry to you STI fans, I think WRX's are super duper ugly. No doubt they are high performace though. Owell I'll just have to hunt down a used MR2.
June 14, 200520 yr for the money its probably gonna be the best sports car you can get id test drive a s2000 and compare
June 14, 200520 yr I like the Mercedes SLK 230, and it's in the same price range for a 2002/2003. Too bad I can't fit in one
June 14, 200520 yr Hey, my Girlfriend drives a 2003 MR2 its pretty nice toyota's offer good stuff and its no exception oh BTW that sequential 6-speed is cool but for performance you will want to go ahead and reprogram it for shorter shifts(actually dont know if you can) ...it's just kinda 'laggy" for lack of a better word or you could go with the 5speed manual sequential has superb downshifting(great if you suck at rev matching) no so great upshifting(evil lag is everywhere it would seem) just looked at the concept Saturn sky might look for that thing saturns seem to go for less(deff less than toyota) well thats my 2 cents got any questions about the mr2 ask away and ill trry to tell you what i think about it ah , 1 more thing the sequential box does this extremely annoying and continuous beeping sound while you are in reverse imo; thats the worst thing about the car
June 14, 200520 yr Author Random you are my hero. Thats the kind of info I was looking for. Ive always driven automatic but I wanted something that gave me a bit more control over shifting. I don't mind the lag and I definately suck at manual right now. I'll learn if I have to. Thanks for the first hand insights. One more thing...how do I sell this thing as a safe car to my mom. Thats the only thing keeping me from getting a Spyder. I asked the guy at the dealership to write an embelished summary of the vehicle's safety features. Think you could do the same? Thanks again. P.S. I hate SLKs. My dad is a big Mercedes fanatic so I could get one. I just don't like them. If I were to get another benz it would be a CLS or CL and those are just as big as my GS300.
June 14, 200520 yr to give you an idea of its safety let me tell you this car is basically made up of 2 other toyota car parts; the Celica(engine) and the Corolla. both of the two very well in safty tests and the celica saved my life(head on colission with both vehicles going over 70(i was in the celica the other was a jeep truck) we all walked away from it with minor scrapes and bruises my car absorbed most of the forse and colapsed in on itself while protecting the cab which means a very totaled car but very protected people. mr2 is lighter and a bit smaller but is designed(safty wise) to do the same thing, keep you safe at the risk of the car. placement of the engine might change everything my girlfriend was involved in a small accidend and wasnt hurt at all but i honestly dont know how it would handle a hard collisiion. also i would say its never gona roll on you baring some freak accident, its got a very wide stance for such a little car but its still a bit longer than say, a miata or somthing that its comperable to.[edit] like a m3
