As to FA, give it as long as you can. So some can order upgrades from North Pole. Might take few months to be delivered.

I voted for BF2, but i still want some slots open for FA and other mods if they come out.

I daresay that not every game of Bf2 you have played has been the same.

 

And Bf2 isn't meant to be a single player game, it's focused completely on multiplayer, with single player being a kind of training thing for newbies

First of all, I have'nt seen you play with us at all. It's a team oriented game, and playing with clan memebers is the way to go. Brush off your mic, and get into Ventrilo with us.

 

Going from FA to Battlefield 2 is a big step, and there will be a learning curve. Once you get a little proficient, you will have a great time.

 

Playing solo (by yourself) on some strange server is not the way to have fun. You made the first step by purchasing the game, so all you have to do now is learn how to play it.

 

As far as the FA server goes, we can keep it up as long as you like, but I am here to tell you that most of the time you will be playing with yourself, because there is no longer an official FA website bringing in new players.

 

Lastly, because we stayed with FA for so long, we missed a golden opportunity to become a major player in the BF2 community. This is an exciting new game that should please most FPS players, and FA fans alike. A game that will more than likely be named "Game of the Year" ...without a question.

FA:2 is all talk ...no action. Half-Life 2 has been out a year now and there hasn't a decent mod spawning from it yet.

I agree. It is hard to believe that nothing has come out yet for Half-Life 2. I much as I don't want to give up on 'FA2'. I seem to be leaning more and more to that way. I go to the website to check it out and it doesn't seem to be getting much closer to being done.

 

BF2 is a fun game. Granted it has its share of glitches'n problems, but its out and they are making patches for it to make it better. Either way though, if/when FA2 comes out. I hope we can get a server up for that.

It's simple, as with each more complex game the amount of work to make a mod has increased dramatically. Now to make a mod takes sooo much time that most people don't make it through. And often a new engine is available even before they are done. Just think back to the good old Quake2 days, there where gazillions of mods out back then, then HL came out and had many mods too (but surely not as many as Q2 had) after that most recent games you look at BF1942, BF:V, HL2 etc. have less and less mods coming out for them.

 

It takes 2-4 years to make a Game (having a full team of 20-500+ people working on it 8h a day 5 days a week and actually add to that a lot of overtime ) and most of that isn't programming but mostly creation of content (e.g. models, texture, levels, etc.)

 

So taking these values into consideration it's not surprising to see that there isn't many mods done or released. Not sure on this but assumes a mod has 20 people working on it. Most working in their free time so (for the benefit of the doubt) are able to spend 8h each day too. So it would still take them nearly 1+ year to make a mod?

Yea I see your point. In this case, I looked on the website for FA2. It had only 8 people or so it said. I don't know if that is true, but if so then I don't think we will ever see FA2.

In this screenshot below we have 41 players worldwide and it is in the afternoon on a Monday. LOL, some of the players are bots too by the way. Doc makes a lot of good points there, I never wondered why it took so long for these mods because the work being done is enormous and in free time not a full time job. But, why don they keep making websites and telling everyone about their great mod when they are nowhere near done or barely started? I believe in advertising but it's ridiculous to go to the WaW website and see only a start page and nothing else but forums.

Honestly I don't think so. Modding (sp?) has made many games sell more over time because they keep it fresh. So I think allowing a game to be modded (sp?) is good and in the benefit of the game companies

 

Prime example the up coming Civilization IV was specificaly build around the idea of being moddable (sp?)

if the FA server goes down I will be very very disappointed. It's the only game that I really can have fun with, BF2 only has mic's if youre in vent or a squad, but playing FA and just yelling at Klink is much fun
