February 16, 200619 yr Does anyone get these weird black patches showing up in game sometime? I don't always get them but once in a while there will be a black area on my screen and I don't know what it is.
February 16, 200619 yr Author I don't get any errors ever but just the patches. This was happening before the patch and after my full reinstall and patching.
February 16, 200619 yr I get them from time to time also, I just attribute them to my video card not being able to handle the graphic load for a half second or so, they dont last longer than that usually, so I havent worried about it much.
February 16, 200619 yr Yep same here. Eventough I have all settings on low sometimes my gfxcard can't handle the game. Sometimes the entire screen goes black, then I ctrl alt del and set BF2 to realtime priority, that usually fixes the problem
February 17, 200619 yr I have ATI X800XL should handle the game no? Thats your problem. Next time get an NVida card.
February 17, 200619 yr now im not a computer expert but... from what ive heard from reviews and other forums' opinions.. ATI isnt exactly the most reliable thing. now i KNOW JPenn will say something so ill just leave it at this. i remind you, this is all from just what ive heard .
February 17, 200619 yr ati is plenty reliable. only issue ive had with bf2 is one time where the texture of 1 particular apc was funky. 1 reboot later everything was fine.
February 17, 200619 yr My 9200 has lasted over 2 years. Bought it from Futureshop, but they still haven't lowered the price on it, go figure! I'm going Nvidia next time to give each of the card companies a fair chance.
February 17, 200619 yr I have always used Nvidia and always will! Card reliability really relies on your PC's hardware configuration. Nvidia cards work best with Nforce chipsets (Go figure ), and AMD CPU's tend to configure more smoothly with Nvidia cards. ATI cards aren't bad, and should be fine. And you should not be seeing those patches with an X800. Go ahead and clean out your computer (if you havent already), and be sure to hit the fans and the heatsink on your card. If you have it overclocked, downclock it to normal and see if there is any difference.
February 17, 200619 yr id suggest a complete driver reinstall. get the 6.2 drivers from ati and download drivercleaner3. install the driver cleaner(but dont run it) and UNinstall your ati drivers(including the catalyst control crap). when it tells you you need to reboot, do it. when your PC starts back up, spam the F8 key before windows starts up. should bring you a list of boot options. choose to start windows in safe mode. run drivercleaner3 in safe mode, wipe out everything ati. once thats done, reboot normally. install the 6.2 drivers you downloaded. reboot after the install like it says and see how that works for you. it seems like a lot of work for something so small, but drivers are known for leaving conflicting stuff behind when a new driver is installed on top of an old one. i go through that whole process everytime i install a new driver, just to be sure my drivers are clean.
February 18, 200619 yr I am more confused the usual. I thought Mac said last year or 2 ATI has performed as good if not better then Nvidia. I'm using old xl5200 nividea with amd in pc2 and newer ati with Intel cpu in pc1 (TigerHawk). Both seem about the same according to fps check in bf2. Now back to my accordian. ;-)
February 18, 200619 yr I thought Mac said last year or 2 ATI has performed as good if not better then Nvidia. thats capitolism for you. makes for competition. whos better is always ping ponging back and forth. in the tech world, 6 months is a long time to be on top. a year or 2 might as well be a millennia.

I did that exactly that was even before you posted that and before these problems started. Maybe I should redo, I don't know.
