July 8, 200322 yr With the retirement of several TA members in the past several weeks, the diminishing of the Firearms community, and Half-life for that matter, and the supposedly last release of Firearms, I begin to wonder about the future for TA. I know i am just a trial member and all, but i was just wondering where this clan would go once the Firearms community has died. Would this clan transfer to another game or would it stop all together? With the release of new games taking interest over Firearms and other Half-life games, it will no doubt strip many members of TA. We all must think about the future and what affects it will have on the clan (though hopefully FA will live on for another thousand years )...LONG LIVE FA & TA!!!wow, i feel a lot smarter. hehe 8)
July 8, 200322 yr -Sterling Morrison]FA2 !! Still in the denial stage............... TA will probably not start up again unless Gator wants to. What with the new, EXPENSIVE servers coming, don't you think he would just hang low for a bit?
July 8, 200322 yr there's several options for TA...1)If FA is ported over to HL2 (it has already been announced that Valve is porting over their major mods, DoD, TFC, CS etc.) then it is most likely TA will move over to that ported version (lets please not call it FA2)2)If FA is not ported over to HL2, there is always the possibility that TA could just move over to another, good, HL2 multiplayer mod. That's how I see...in either way, I personally think that TA will be alive for years to comeand btw, only about 3 or 4 members have left in recent times, out of the say 80 members
July 8, 200322 yr I haven't noticed a decline in the community, mostly because I don't look at how many people are playing in all of FA, but the server is as full as ever, so it isn't affecting us apparently.
July 8, 200322 yr Well, lets see. HL2 is a reality, and FA2 may be a reality. Here is a statement from Ben at www.firearmsmod.com : While all eyes and ears are peeled towards the pending release of HL2, things appear undecided for the future of our beloved mod Firearms. Our roving team of reporters uncovered a statement on the subject from Ben Irwin, the FA Dev teams head honcho. While he sounds open to the propects of HL2, it's not what was said, but what wasn't said, which leaves this reporter speculative. Source: www.homelanfed.com, May 31 2003 - John [JCAL] Callaham With the release of info, screenshots and movies from Valve Software's Half=Life 2, people have been wondering what impact the new game will have on mod makers. HomeLAN contacted a couple of well respected mod makers in the Half-Life community and asked them about their opinions of Half-Life 2 and whether they will move their mods to the new game: Ben Irwin - Firearms On Half-Life 2 - Although I've only seen a very limited amount of information in the magazines I've read, it all seems very promising. From the screenshots I've seen, everything looks great, and the things people have written about the sound and physics are impressive too. But I hope the single player portion of the game won't differ from the original too much. Obviously you're in a totally different place under different circumstances, but some things (such as specific NPCs who could cause you to fail if they die) worry me a little. I've read about how people at Valve were surprised when players felt a genuine attachment to the security guards and scientists that were dotted around Black Mesa, so they've added specific characters this time who play a major part in the story. That's great, but part of the fun of playing the original game, for me at least, was the fact that you were all alone. Nobody to tell you what your objectives are, nobody to point out a weapon you didn't pick up. The only real objective in the game was to survive. Then there were the moments when you were short of ammo and decided to whip out your crowbar and cave Barney's head in so you could help yourself to his. I don't want to be in a situation where I have to reload the game because a vital NPC was in the wrong place. Having said that though, I have faith in Valve, and I'm pretty sure they'll avoid things like that. As for the multiplayer, I'm hoping that Team Fortress 2 is included as standard. I think that would be a pleasant surprise for everyone. TFC engulfed practically all of my time before I started toying with customising the game, and to have TF2 in September would be a dream come true. On moving mods to Half-Life 2 - Although we don't have any specific plans yet, Half-Life 2 has definitely been added to the list of candidates for whatever we do next. Hopefully we'll get more information about the engines capabilities, as well as the tools which will be provided, in the run up to E3. I'm sure it would be a challenge to develop for. To take advantage of the engines advanced features will take a lot more skill than what is required to push Half-Life to its limits, but I'm confident that the team we have here is capable of it. Whether or not we'll end up developing a mod for Half-Life 2 is unknown though. We'll just have to wait and see... As far as TA is concerned, I really wouldn't worry about that. I think that many of you will eventually leave because you may lose interest in gaming, or perhaps you may lose interest in FA, to name a few. TA is much more than a clan. TA represents a common bond between people who enjoy the many friendships and interaction of its members. I have actually thought about moving to another mod, but I find FA's smaller community to be the best. It has great gameplay, and we all have fun playing it. If there comes a time we need to change because of the mod (or lack there of), I would meet with the Senior Counsel to discuss a move. The Senior Counsel is the core entity of TA's existence. They directly support the operation of the server and website both financially and personally. The members of the Senior Counsel asked me not publicize what they have contributed, because they are an unselfish and giving group of folks. These guys are great group of people, and I can say from my heart that each of them take a personal interest in how the clan and the server operates. They genuinely care about you, and the clan as a whole. People always say thanks to Gator, and I must say that I feel a little guilty taking all the credit, so I just wanted you all to know the "Real Deal". I also wanted to say thanks to them publicly.
July 8, 200322 yr Ky,why don't you come back and be a member? We miss youAlso, have you checked out that new star wars online RP game?
July 8, 200322 yr Ok, I can clear this up for everyoneFA will not be ported over to HL2They are contemplating a mod for HL2, it will have some similarities to FA (very few) but be entirely differentSo, no FA on HL2I've spoken to Mazor about this several timesThey are still toying with the idea of a mod for HL2but they would need more people, and the tools from Valve
July 8, 200322 yr -Troutboy]Also, have you checked out that new star wars online RP game? You mean the Galaxies: an Empire Divided ? I can only reply with the quote from LucasArts: This game is to be played only in North America.
July 8, 200322 yr even if i dont make it into the clan ill still be with TA....no matter where it goes. This is the place where i started to love FA...and its people. TA is a place where i met intresting people and have grown to respect them. They were there through some bad times in my life, especially the football thing....so i will not leave TA, and if u guys need any help just ask me or anyone here....
July 9, 200322 yr It's a mod called HeathCube. We haven't worked out the specifics yet, but the main idea is that in each map there is a HeathCube or Cubes. A heathcube can be big or small it doesn't matter. There will be different objectives for each map and in them the heathcube plays a main part. Like protect the giant heathcube from a terrorist attack, or capture the heathcube.
July 9, 200322 yr actually there is an easy way to overcome collapsing all we really need to do is hang on to eachothers e-mails or sign up for a different fourm somewhere if we loose the clan itself.wow am i thinking logicly?? i think i am wow.
