Posted October 18, 200618 yr this came in the BF2142 box; it's the first thing you see when you open it. What are your thoughts. /monthly_06_2011/post-1393-1308101880_thumb.jpg
October 18, 200618 yr I don't like that at all. EA should take some heat over this, IMO games should have no place in advertising or more like the other way around advertising should have no place in games. I am extremely opposed to the manner in which they retrieve the data especially if this interferes with crucial components in gaming, namely ping, load times, and CTDs, people don't need any higher pings than already exists in the Battlefield genre. Also, load times are already horrendous, the last thing we as gamers need is to wait longer to load up only to have the game CTD. (load times include verification of client data) Which brings me to my next point, CTDs. The manner in which the data is retrieved is spyware in itself, and if this opens a gateway to more spyware the constant minimizing of BF 2142 will, I feel, only compound the problem. Ok, my rant is now over.
October 18, 200618 yr All I wanna do is game with my buddies and not be invaded. What the hell happened to this world?
October 18, 200618 yr Honestly, I am going to report this to the BBB Online and the ACLU. MAybe we can all sign a petition.

Great idea gator, something needs to be done about this and im sure there will be alot of angry customers, I could handle in-game ads such as billboards or like you said during the load screen but this is just going to far.
October 18, 200618 yr wow that is absolutly retarded i think everyone should send back their copy I mean everyone that has it . Tell them we wont play untill they get rid of that crap.
October 18, 200618 yr Your IP is like your SS# in some instances. How do we know that their servers where the info is going are secure. O M Freaking Gosh!!! I am going to have to think about this one.
October 18, 200618 yr Yeah that's really stupid. I was kind of on the edge of getting/not getting this, this pushed me over.
October 18, 200618 yr well just looking at the EA forums, its full of threads about the spyware...not very happy customers and alot refusing to buy the game now. I am very disappointed by this.
October 18, 200618 yr What are they gaining by doing this though? Do they get a percentage of revenue's generated by this? Why? When I first heard about in-game advertising I thought it was going to be like a bilboard for Pepsi or something like that, pre-rendered or something like a rotating display between AMD and Intel bilboards something like that, and I thought that would be kind of neat, a shootout underneath a Mountian Dew billboard. Not sending anything over a "secure" connection so it can display a new age of pop-up advertisment.
October 18, 200618 yr I found this link in the ONE thread discussing this in the EA forums. http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=11300 That article discusts me because they're trying to justify the spyware existence and validity... This really burns my ass.
October 18, 200618 yr EA has been advertising with the so called billboards for quite sometime now. I love playing the need for speed series games and you see the billboards for all sorts of stuff. But they were already built into the game. This new advertising technology they are using is nothing less than spyware. Gator thats a great Idea I know alot of us would sign the petition. I would hope that a petition would send these companies the message that consumers would only put up with so much. Millions are already trying to rid themselves daily from this type of spyware now the consumers are being told that they have no choice in the matter??? If they, EA/DICE, doesnt change this I really hope this turns into the biggest flop of all time. I've cursed people before but never wished harm but I really hope this flops bad...
October 18, 200618 yr I keep telling you guys EA is the evil empire, but nobody takes me seriously. Now maybe you all will listen to the ol' Roach. At any rate, this was apparently done in Swat 4, and peaple found a way to block it. While removing spyware itself usually disables the program it's piggybacked on, I'm wondering if one can figure out which IPs and servers they are sending it too, if you can't block the info directly thru your firewall or whatnot? I mean, since the spyware itself is still intact, but the info just isn't going out, I wonder if you can fool the crap into thinking it's running into Internet problems?

Follow this link to some help or maybe not but it's something. http://www.forumplanet.com/planetbattlefield/topic.asp?fid=18377&tid=1962275
October 18, 200618 yr This really stinks! I'm not happy about this at all. I'm rethinking this whole issue.
October 18, 200618 yr Honestly, I am going to report this to the BBB Online and the ACLU. MAybe we can all sign a petition. Lets go for it.
October 18, 200618 yr If the ads were built in the game, then single player mode would have them too. But they say that it will only be when you "connect to the internet" that you will see ads. So my bet is it's flat out spammage of ads and the government looking for the music you illegaly downloaded from napster!!!!!!
