Mythos

Featured Replies

This is a Diablo-clone being created by the makers of Diablo (Flagship Studios, the same guys making Hellgate: London). The best part is that they are aiming to make Mythos free to download and free to play. It's currently in Alpha and it looks really nice. Anyway, go ahead and join the Mythos kingdom. They pull their testers from the kingdom database.

I'm a second phase Alpha tester so I haven't had a chance to play yet (they are only testing at certain times and they are adding a lot of content this time around so we're waiting to test). The NDA has been lifted so I'll make some screenshots for you guys to see. There are a few videos available but only Alpha testers can get access to the forums where they are posted.

I played diablo for years, it was an awesome game. This looks pretty interesting, I'll definitley sign up and give it a shot. Making it free would be nice too

Just know that it will be a multiplayer only game being distrib'd through their Ping0 software.

Something I've found that they have both singleplayer quests and epic quests (requires a full party of 5 people). Plus, you can only hold 12 locations on your map at any one time. There's a ton of other features, but those 2 are kind of interesting to me.

I play Diablo sporadically (The game is evil, it calls to me every now and then to come play.. resistance is futile) so this could be good. The graphics remind me of a mix between WoW and Dungeon Siege. I still want Hellgate to come out (grr)

They are still on track for a Summer '07 release. I've been following Hellgate since it was announced so I'm having to be patient too. But Mythos looks to be a good time filler until then.

I have been playing Diablo2 a little bit lately. It's still a great game. Diablo3 is one of those titles I'd buy just because of the name.

Meh, it won't be the same IMO. With the original creators no longer at Blizzard, it will be a whole different team working on it. That's even IF Blizzard decides to make it.

Bill Roper and crew that ran Blizzard North are the ones that made randomized dungeons mainstream. They are taking that randomization to a whole new level with Hellgate. Randomized quests, random stats on all weapons/armor, mods that have random attributes (think socket gems but ones that can be removed and reattached infinitely), random dungeon layouts, random dungeon special encounters/quests (those that only appear while you are in a dungeon, not beforehand), and much more.

Anyways, this thread's about Mythos. I'll post a new one about Hellgate soon.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., (March 22, 2007) Ping0, LLC, a joint-venture between Flagship Studios and HanbitSoft, Inc., today revealed details on Mythos the highly anticipated massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Flagship Studios Seattle. The announcement coincides with the expansion of the Mythos alpha test.

"For Mythos, we started with the revolutionary style of gameplay we pioneered in the Diablo franchise. Then, by offering it free to download and play, we make it even more accessible to players. By designing the Mythos world from the ground-up to be an ever-changing place, we can quickly and seamlessly implement new ideas from a variety of inspirations," said Phil Shenk, Creative Director of Mythos and founding member of Flagship Studios, "Through the continued support of the Flagship community, we are striving to create what will be one of the most innovative role-playing games of recent years."

Mythos is an online, action role-playing game that is free to download and free to play. Set in the land of Uld, a fantasy world arising from the ashes of an epoch-long war of darkness. players assume the roles of fantasy heroes as they explore, adventure, and quest through entirely randomized dungeons and environments. With an elegant point-and-click interface and an accessible "isometric" perspective, Mythos is poised to have near-universal appeal. The game allows thousands of players to interact within the same world while using mostly "Instanced"? dungeons to create unique gaming experiences suited for both solo and group-minded players.

As players journey into Mythos ever-expanding universe, they select one of three races (Human, Elves, or Gremlins) and opt to play as a particular character class using a huge variety of skills and items. Through heroic quests players search for gold, gems, armor, and weapons, while unlocking the secrets of Uld. Mythos presents a constantly expanding, continuously updated world where something new lurks around every corner.

Mythos is an online role-playing game developed by Flagship Seattle, a subsidiary of Flagship Studios. Mythos is currently exercising the online technology and services behind the multiplayer component of the highly-anticipated action role-playing game Hellgate: London. Mythos will be digitally distributed in North America and Europe in 2007 by Ping0. HanbitSoft, Flagship Studios? partner in Ping0, will be responsible for distributing Mythos in Asia.

Tell me about it. It's been 2 months since the Alpha ended. ;)

They finally updated the main site news post today. They've closed the server down as of noon today to prepare for the closed beta. All characters are getting wiped and they are resetting the forums.

End of Alpha, Mythos Beta imminent!

By MaxSchaefer on 2007-06-27 01:12 PM

Mythos Testers,

In preparation for our imminent Beta test, we have officially closed the Alpha and shut the game down as of noon, June 27 PST. We hope you enjoyed the Alpha over the past weeks as we are looking forward to your feedback and reactions when we roll out our Mythos Beta very soon. You will all be automatically included in the Beta, and you don't need to take any action. You will get an email in the near future that will announce the date the Beta will start. Things to be aware of are: 1) we will be wiping all the characters and all current forum posts, 2) you will need to uninstall Mythos and reinstall a new game client. Detailed instructions will be posted on the forums and the self-help pages. 3) you will need to claim a new forum name due to database maintenance. We apoloigze for the down time but cannot thank you enough for you patience, your help and your feedback in completing a very successful Mythos Alpha test!

...That's even IF Blizzard decides to make it...

:D -I am sure EA would be willing to step in...and turn it into a diamond studded PILE 'O SHITE...so who's up for some CnC3  ;) LOL!

Well, Flagship is using EA for Hellgate. But they are only distributing the game as they have no say-so in the development process, thankfully.

Closed Beta started this past weekend.

It was a soft release to the alpha testers so they could do some intial testing. We managed to find quite a few bugs, most have been fixed and will be released in the next patch (hopefully this week). There are still some balancing issues to be dealt with, hopefully those will be taken care of this week as well.

They'll be making their official announcement soon.
