In case anyone here had not heard yet, there was a major shooting today at Virginia Tech. A gunman opened fire in the dorms and classrooms and killed 32 before killing himself or being shot by the police.

It is probably the top story on all US news sources. Here is CNN's

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/16/vtech.shooting/index.html

This is the worst school shooting in United States history.

"At least 33 people, including a gunman, were killed Monday during shootings in a dorm and a building housing classrooms at Virginia Tech."
That is freakin' nuts...my heart goes out to those who knew someone involved. They are saying or pointing out the fact that there were 2 people shot this morning...and then again soon after where the majority got shot It is really troubling that this stuff can happen anywhere...schools, work, or elsewhere.
Not even the worst school shooting, but the worst shooting period in US History. It boggles my mind to think of why people do crap like this, this is why our world is so screwed up. The fact that they had 2 shootings is just terrible.

Really Miyamoto this kind of stuff happens really rarely and hell lets face it this could happen anywhere. The chances of it happening to you are very very very low. It is unfortunate when it does happen and is tragic and everyone will be scared for a while.
I just now heard about this my heart goes out to the families:( . What convinces people to do things like this:confused: :) .

Yeah I really want to know what drove this guy to do such a thing.

Oh wait I just turned on the TV and they are talking about it. Apparently the guy's girlfriend broke up with him or something and he was going to kill himself as a result and decided to hurt as many others as he could before he did so.

Oh and look here comes the blame on video games..

regardless of his motive this is just sick stuff.

He and that girl must of been extremely close but it shouldn't affect to point where he feels he has to kill others or himself. If he had friends why didn't his friends notice the warning signs. Most people just don't decide overnight they're going to such an act. They're are many warning signs that lead up to something like this. There is always a motive to commit such an act. Most of this type of violence is caused by depression so the politicians need to lay off the violent game thing for a bit.

The way i see it unless u can link a video game to a crime directly leave it alone. I see where they get off on blaming games especially the GTA series. If they're so concerned about it parents need watch what games they're children play. I work in the electronics dept in Walmart. Everyday i watch parents let their kids under the age of ten buy games like GTA, God of War, and Gears of War. Its not the games fault it's the parents fault for letting their young'ins play it. The games are rated for a reason people!

I don't think that video games plays that big of a role in making someone that distured, however having a poor homelife does play a huge role...

However this makes people more aware of mental illnesses and thier potentially harmful side effects. Which have so many people die to come to realization that people have serious mental problems though so many people's deaths is sad. But, still thier may be some kind of good out of this in the future...

I have to agree that I hate the fact that they always try to find some stimulant for the violence...in this case video games. This generations baby sitter is video games...no matter the rating...no matter the age of the player. The point being...I really don't think games have as much to play in this as the majority of kids in this generation are OK...much like the tv generation before it. Next they will be asking these questions...I wonder if this guy listened to rap music? Or if there was a Don Imus connection?(questions are an attempt at sarcasm) They need to get real and realize that this is the work of someone with more issues than playing a game can explain.

-Sad to hear...that stuff pisses me off!

:) -Video games? Unless he pulls up in an APC and pods onto the roof, I doubt it lol. So...if it was video games, they want to take them away:rolleyes:... ...but if it was a woman...:eek:do they get taken away too... :( ...I need them...

:) -I think people have become desensitized to violence because of TV, News, INet, Games, and VGames...that I agree with...but they do not get the idea to kill from them...

:) -UGH!, whatever...the world will never run out of stupid...

... and my supervisor wants me to attend post-doc in US (maybe MIT or CalTech). Seriously... i'm not going... no way. :) :)

Pass up MIT are you nuts, thats the shizzle, or maybe you could join the military, and help me protect the freedoms you enjoy, tough choice, hhmmm....
