I know we have these questions all the time here in the forum.

Mine is simple two cards, two prices, two technologies. Money IS AN OBJECT!! I will probably be getting this card within the next two weeks along with a new 150 GB Raptor HD. I am hoping to find a LCD to go with these as well. I am trying to keep it under ~$600. This is why the vid card is a big deal. Will geting the 8600GTS future proof me for a while? Or will the new DX10.1 require new hardware?

~$170 Radeon X1950 XT DX 9.0c

~$280 GeForce 8800 GTS (320MB version) DX 10.0

Better to save my $100 for later? Or get the DX 10 card. Is it worth going with the DX 10 card right now or wait a little longer and save my money now? Are the new games that are coming out, etc,.. Crysis, COD4, are these games DX 10 games? Is DX 10 upon us or can it wait?

8800 series

But why? Just because it is an 8800?? Is it really all that much better? $100 more for not that much more performance. Does it make sense, monetarily speaking?
well the dx 10 is higher in technology. once u get vista you will be able to play with higher settings then just dx 9 settings.

i've always preferd nvidia. plus in the future, directx 10 will take over the world hand in hand with microsoft.... and bill gates....

u cannot resist.

vista will spread.

it is your destiny.

*chanting ...micrsoft.....microsoft....microsoft...

if money is that big of a deal, u could always go for 1 geforce8800gts 320. i only have 1 and i could run bioshocks demo on 1024x768 max settings. wait till christmas and buy the 2nd one then slap it on. thats what i plan to do.

I have it in my shopping cart at Newegg, once I get home and can find my credit card it is as good as purchased.
Go ahead for the 8800 GTS i have a friend at work who has one and he says it runs great. DX10 is real nice and when more games start having it incorporated you'll be ready. It's a good card and it beats ATI hands down

Well...Ill be the outcast and say I'd rather go with the Radeon. I've been looking at the videos of the difference between dx 10 and dx 9. I can't say that I would rather pay 110$ more just to see those tiny tiny details.

However, I'm not the richest person in the world.... if I had loads of money I would go with the 8800 of course. But if money is an object, I would recommend getting the Radeon just because the money doesn't match the difference of the two cards quality. :(

Get the 8800 gtx and forget the raptor. They are over priced for what you get. Look into the seagate 7200.10 HD. They are pretty quick, good storage, and far more cheaper then the raptor.

Either get the X1950 or the 8800 640MB, don't bother with the 320MB because I had two in SLI and it had lag issues due to the fact that it doesn't unload gaming files. This is a known issue with certain games.

As for the DX10 thing, it is purely a selling point because DX10 games don't run as good as DX9 games do. BIOSHOCK runs 20FPS less in DX10 than DX9. The 8 series cards can do DX10 but they are honestly very good DX9 cards. DX10 wont be worth it until the end of 2008 once OS, VGA and games actually use DX10 to its potential. So please don't use the DX10 thing as a selling point.......

So like I said before, either save the money and get the AMD card or spend another 100 on top of the 8800 320MB and get the 640MB.
