September 8, 200718 yr I installed Vista 64 and then Vista 32 last month and tried out BF. Overall the performance wasn't that good and after a couple weeks on each OS the performance got terrible. I stuck another 6800 Ultra in my machine and tried running SLI and then found out that Vista nVidia drivers don't do SLI with 6800's so I went back to XP. A couple weeks ago I went out and got a 8800 GTS but am leary of trying Vista again. So, long story short, is anyone running Vista with an 8800 and getting good stability and performance with 2142? (32 or 64 bit?)

September 8, 200718 yr I'm running a 7800GT, but I will be switching back to XP. They need to fix Vista before I feed it to my PC again. I'm very disappointed with it.

September 8, 200718 yr Yeah, it seems like the general consensus is to definitely hold back on Vista for a while. If you want your compy to LOOK like Vista (and who doesn't? It's beautiful), try Vista Inspirat. =]

I think they will fix it eventually, at least thats the idea. Unfortunately they have a ways to go before its at the usability/performance level of XP. I say another two years. By Then we'll probably required to use it for some reason or another, hopefully it'll be straightened out.

September 8, 200718 yr I'm running an 8800GTX with 64bit Vista Ultimate and i'm not seeing any slow downs. I get the occasional CTD with any BF game primarily because of EA. Other than that my system runs fine and extremely stable it could be though that i also have 4GB of RAM. If u could list ur current specs i may be able to make some suggestions and possibly tell ur what ur problem is. Between me and other Vista users i'm sure we could figure it out

September 8, 200718 yr I am also running Vista Ultimate x64 with 4Gb of DDR2 and an 8800 GTS 320Mb. My computer runs incredibly well and I prefer many aspects of Vista over XP. I am actually dual-booting with XP on my laptop and desktop now. XP is faster on both systems, for sure, but I now prefer Vista as many things seem to work consistently better.

September 8, 200718 yr Poop on Vista, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. I just upgraded to a dual core processor thinking it would make a big difference with vista, it didn't. I want XP Pro so bad. I guess I'll have to spend some more darn money. I will be buying it this morning, my mind is made up! EDIT-----> Just bought it at 08:20 this 9th of September lovely Saturday morning. It's 139.99 at Newegg with free shipping. I'm sure you guys could find it for less but I like Newegg the security and the service is top notch, never ever had any problems.

September 8, 200718 yr Author Bought XP? Oh man... shoulda sent me a pm first  Interesting though that you guys are seeing better performance with 4GB. I'm only running 2GB which might explain why it had dramatic slowdowns after running for a couple weeks (takes about 2 weeks to get all my crap loaded up prolly, which leaves little overhead for 2142). My CPU kinda sucks tho compared to the Core 2's. Thanks for the feedback though. Main reason I ask is because one of my homies irl crashes after each map. He's running 8800 gts also but has Core 2 quad with Vista 32. Maybe it's something that has to be ironed out with the quad core stuff.

September 8, 200718 yr I built my computer with 2gb. BF was choppy because my hard drive was very active, when I quit the game it took my comp a few mins to recover. I put another 2gb in and it was night and day, gaming is much better and Vista is much quicker. My hard drive barely reads at all once everything is loaded up, page file = bad My computer started crashing when maps change in titan mode after I upgraded to 4gb, I have no problems with Vista or any other game. I have 2gb of OCZ and 2gb of G-Skill, I guess BF doesn't like my new memory. The BF engine is very sensitive to hardware, if your computer isn't perfect you may see errors. Does your friend overclock? BF is very sensitive to that as well.

Yeah I bought it, my wife makes a big deal out of the piracy thing. I have 2GB ram and an 8800GTS with Vista home premium. Booooooo Vista. I read in one if this months computer magazines, that I subscribe to, that there is some sort of problem with the new quad processors.

September 8, 200718 yr Interface...I'm running 8800GTX and Vista and have no probs at all. I was running 2GB RAM for a while but added 2GB more recently and am still running fine. I will say that I had to tweak a few things in order to get it to run smoothly though. I dont play 2142 but do play BF2 a lot and no issues there either. As much as I'd like to try my set up on XP, I dont see any reason for me to go back. Also, with Vista SP1 around the corner, I think things are gonna def get better.
