  5. /files/u166440/elite_dangerous_braben.jpgGame will support 4K and 16K Elite: Dangerous is almost upon us and we are excited considering that the game was one of our most anticipated PC games of 2014. Created by Frontier Developments, the sci-fi combat simulator is the fourth installment in the Elite game franchise that also features trading and space exploration in a 1:1 scale of our own universe. Maximum PC had the opportunity to interview Frontier Developments CEO David Braben, courtesy of Online Managing Editor Jimmy Thang. Braben, who founded Frontier Developments back in 1994, talked about how the game’s setting is a recreation of our universe and, when asked about how the universe in the game is modeled after our own, he replied, “Every single star in the night sky, that you can see, is in the game. Even the really faint ones. So we can see 6,000-7,000 in the night sky and they are all in the game. So are the full 160,000 that we got from star catalogues and other sources.” The interview goes on to cover other topics such as what gamers can do in the game, virtual reality support, whether or not a person can become stranded while exploring, why the developer decided to have the game support 16K, and Develop Frontiers’ decision to do regarding playing single player offline. “We found it increasingly difficult to do, and I think this has upset some people, is the wholly offline play,” Braben replied when asked about the single player campaign. “The game was still going to be downloaded, but the ability to play wholly offline is something we found increasingly difficult to offer.” Be sure to watch the for his full explanation about the company's apporach to the single player campaign and let us know what you think of the interview in the comment section below. 18. /files/u166440/the_crew.jpgUbisoft’s recent record and actions might give a different impression It has been a rough year for Ubisoft when it comes to the games that have been released. Earlier this year the PC version of Watch Dogs suffered from a number of issues while the recent launch of Assassin’s Creed Unity resulted in free DLC and Far Cry 4 receiving a patch for a variety of issues. However, The Crew’s lead game designer Serkan Hasan has “confidence in the stability of the game and its performance,” according to an interview he had with The Metropolist. "For The Crew, we’ve reaped the benefits of a long term beta program, designed specifically to push our infrastructure as far as possible in real world situations, with thousands of players from all over the world playing the game at the same time," said Hasan. According to Ubisoft, The Crew has had four closed betas though Hasan admits that, "The launch of any online game these days has potential issues, but I hope that players will be encouraged by our open approach. If you had any doubts that we could pull this off, I hope that the betas proved our credentials and the game’s stability." The Crew is an online racing video game that takes place in an open world environment and is being developed by Ivory Tower and Ubisoft Reflections. But given the launch woes of Assassin’s Creed Unity and Far Cry 4, both of which launched this month, it wouldn’t be surprising if consumers are reluctant to purchase The Crew day one. But while Hasan might be confident in the product his team has developed, Ubisoft’s recent action regarding review copies could be misinterpreted as a sign that it is not so confident. Earlier this week Ubisoft announced that there would be no early review copies of the game. "The Crew was built from the beginning to be a living playground full of driving fans, so it’s only possible to assess our game in its entirety with other real players in the world," Ubisoft posted on its official blog. "And by other, we mean thousands and thousands and thousands of players – something that can’t be simulated with a handful of devs playing alongside the press." “For this very reason,” the post continues. “The Crew will be available to media to begin their reviews when the game launches on December 2.” Are you planning to purchase The Crew or will you wait this time to see what happens on launch day? 19. /files/u166440/assassins_creed_unity_002.jpgSeason Pass holders get a free game Since it was released on November 11, Assassin’s Creed Unity has been plagued by a plethora or issues. The game has suffered from so many bug, glitches, and technical issues that the third patch will have around 300 bug fixes. To make amends for the launch, Ubisoft has apologized and announced that Assassin’s Creed Unity’s upcoming DLC will be free. “I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin's Creed team,” said Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat in a blog post. “These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.” The Dead Kings DLC will be free for everyone that purchased the game when it is released. When it becomes available, it will be listed as an add-on for both Uplay and Steam where PC gamers will be able to download it. Meanwhile, those who purchased the Season Pass or Assassin’s Creed Unity Gold Edition, will be given the choice of one free game from a selection of the developer’s titles – The Crew, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Rayman Legends, or Just Dance 2015. No date has been provided for when the Dead Kings DLC will be released and available for download except that it is “coming soon.” Furthermore, Ubisoft has discontinued selling the Season Pass for Assassin’s Creed Unity. 21. http://www.maximumpc.com/files/u69/music_deals_albums.jpg Rock out with your Windows Phone or Windows device out It wouldn't be fair to call Microsoft a Scrooge, not when the company is rolling out a pair of sweet deals for the holiday season, one of which includes 100 free albums. The caveat? You have to be a Windows or Windows Phone user. If you are, you can claim your 100 free albums from Microsoft by installing the company's Music Deals companion app. These aren't crappy albums, either. Some are obviously better than others, depending on your music preferences, but you'll find plenty of big names like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, James Taylor, Eminem, Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, American Idiot, and lots more. And that's just one of the deals going on. Microsoft is also offering up 50 boxed sets at $2 a pop. Think artists and bands like the Eagles, KISS, John Lennon, and of course the list goes on. These sets typically sell for between $15 and $100. "Remember, albums you download as part of our Music Deals are all MP3s. You can download these albums, keep them, and play them on whatever device you have," Microsoft stated in a blog post. You can grab the Music Deals app from the Windows Store here and from the Windows Phone Store here. Follow Paul on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook View the full article
  22. http://www.maximumpc.com/files/u69/origin_sale.jpgSave up to 75 percent Do not adjust your calendar, it's not Black Friday yet. Nevertheless, some retailers and e-tailers have already begun offering Black Friday sales, including Electronic Arts through its Origin service. Starting now, you can save up to 75 percent off select titles on Origin, which include both new and classic titles. Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe Edition is now $20, marked down from $40, or you can get the Premium Edition for $48, marked down from $60. Some of the titles are super cheap, like Mass Effect ($3.74, down from $15), Mass Effect 2 ($5, down from $20), and Popcap Hero Bundle consisting of Plants vs Zombies, Bejeweled 3, and Peggle ($5, down from $10). And some are downright old school gems, like all three Populous games ($2.50 each, down from $5) and Magic Carpet ($2.50, down from $5). Not all the titles are games. For example, The Final Hours of Mass Effect 3 ($0.74, down fro $3) and The Final Hours of Titanfall ($1, down from $2) are behind the scenes looks that detail what went into building each game -- possible gift ideas for the gamer who has everything. Assuming Origin isn't a deal killer, give the sale a look, and happy gaming. Follow Paul on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook View the full article
