Cast aside as garbage? I hardly see that. I doubt the FA team would spend so many hours creating the game and then cast it away as garbage. They are fixing it up for 3.0 and putting it to rest.

FA will always be better than any copy they try to make on the Source engine. You can not duplicate such a great game as this. It just can not be done. If I have an urge to play FA, I will load up the original. This is why I will not download it. Enjoy FA now, and remember the times played.
