I read that people were having this problem on certain maps with the new ATI 4.12 drivers. You need to disable the fog (or perhaps other environment settings), though I'm not entirely sure how to do that. I do believe its written somewhere in the readme though. Ya, the FA Team decided it was time to move on to other mods. One part is working on a HL2 mod called Jungle Mist while another part is working on another secret mod (I believe its called something like "World At War" or something).

For when 3.0 is released? I remember we unbanned individuals once 2.9 was released...but I'm not sure about 3.0...

The future of FA is the FA Team's responsibility, not ours. We do not have the time, nor the desire (generally speaking) to try to save a mod that is dying off. How can we save a mod that will not be able to compete with any other games/mods of today? Sure we may all have a special place on our hard drive for FA, but that is the extent of it. Remember all things have their end, it is inevitable. FA is near the end. We must all realize that and be ready to move on.

I didn't much care for the last DM...but this is HL2!!! HL2DM is bound to be soooooo fun. Two words: Gravity Gun. 8)
