HL2 is more immersive of the senses, it is bordering on being so realistic that it has the capability to make people motion sick (specifically the boat level) because your eyes are telling your body one thing, and you inner ear another

If all else fails, reinstall steam, then re-dl BEWARE this is a HUGE DL (3.6gig for hl2, 2.9 for hls and 1.8 for CSsource) its alot

By a fresh reboot, do you mean a cold start (PC been off for half an hour etc)If you do then something in the system is overheating, could be CPU, RAM, but is most likely the GFX card you are using, could be a faulty or dry solder somewhere on the PCBIF it is overheating which is what i think it is, Try leaving the Side pannel of the case off and playing the game with it off,from what you say on the highest settings its really taxing the card and itll heat up and crash very fast, on lower settings itll heat up more slowely, till it gets to that temperature and freak.

i spent £44 ($89.99) on the gold edition..if you add up the PC i hae been building slowely over the last year, that rises to£1200 ($2000 ish)but the PC wasnt ofr HL2

Just to re-affirm here, If i play FA i play FA with Cheating Death on... If i do leave the hack in the folder (its a file that you copy) then it says system modified... i will also reenforce that i have never and WILL NEVER use a hack or cheat in game EVER.

The only thing that makes a "REAL" inpact in the game is the shadows, make sure they are on the lowest detail level possible..
