Well my long absence on the FA server is a consequence of having a day job, getting a car and moving houses , the outcome of the latter being no broadband Alas ye olde fashioned modem internet gaming is still way too expensive in Poland. So here I am at work (last day this year, too - I'm on vacation starting tomorrow, yay!) and I see this person of the year thread. I voted for Doc. Yes, I know they are default. I just wanted to do it the easy way, without messing with FA. Now it seems the easiest way is indeed reainstalling it. *Sigh*

Well, I can't download caen, willow, armory or basrah, and those maps just don't work. Can someone host them for a while? I hate to sit on my butt, watching my favorite maps go by... >_<

Some time ago, having problems with tc_basrah, tc_caen and obj_willow, advised by Mac I deleted those maps from my FA folder. I was supposed to download them from the server during the game using the fast map download utility. But now everytime I try to connect while one of those maps is in play, I get an error saying the game cannot continue without the map or some similar message. My question is - is fast map download disabled? And if it is - what now? Peace.Bane

Mmm, cheese. Speaking of which last month I started working for a company called Stanley. All of you home improvement kind of guys probably know Stanley Tools and such. Well, they moved their accounting from all over Europe to Poland. That's where I work. Not a dreamjob either, but it's OK for starters I guess, to get some real experience, which is invaluable these days.Before that I worked for an advertising agency, which was much more fun, and the people there were mostly insane in a positive sort of way. Besides I could dress however I wanted and behave real informal. Too bad I had to work 12 hours a day plus the weekends.The choice is yours :lol:Bane

Bigbud, what do you mean by "remove and reload"? Just take the map out of the FA folder and back? That doesn't seem to be a solution, but thanks for your time anyway. If I could download these maps from somewhere, I would try switching them, but alas as they are in the default map pack for 2.9, nobody hosts them :)Any more ideas, anyone?Thanks, Bane

The stopsound command is good when the sound starts looping within the game without actually affecting FPS, only annoying the player (me ). That kind of loop happens a lot on sandblast and omaha - when doors are being opened back and forth again. But everyone gets that from time to time. When you just join the game (connect to the server and load a map for the first time) a similar thing happens - the map sounds start and in the middle they start over and so on for just a moment. So when you join bocage you hear birds chirping over and over for about 3 seconds, or if someone's talking over the mic you will hear like a syllable or two being repeated for a couple of seconds. And that's what usually happens with each connection. The problem I'm talking about is different. It's like I can't quite connect or something. The repeating sounds never cease, I get 4 fps, and even the escape key takes three times longer to get me to the menu, so I can disconnect. It's as if I had a huge lag, but it's not like I freeze and then find myself in a different spot, just the game itself gets very choppy both in sound and FPS. Here's a screenie - maybe the netgaph will give you some more info. I only know the FPS is 20 times less than what I usually get. And as I said - it only happens on those 3 maps (so far). I'm quite sure this also happened on caen and armory before the most recent FA patch/Steam update, but at that time I could play basrah fine, so I really don't know if there's a connection or not. http://bathroomgangsta.w.interia.pl/mac/tc_caen0006.jpg Thanks for your time and help. To keep a short story from growing long:Whenever I play the following maps - caen, armory, basrah - my FPS drops to a constant of 4. Yes, 4 FPS. And the sound is continually repeating, looping like when you connect - except it stays like that for the whole time. It only happened so far on these maps, and as soon as another map is loaded, my FPS goes back to 50-70 and sound is back to normal. Any remedies, solutions, patches? By the way, I used to play caen fine in 2.8 and basrah and armory for some time in 2.9, too. Maybe I just need to download those maps again? Except they are not in the download section and I just don't want to try and reinstall the whole game. Something else might get fried :? Peace.BanePS. HELP!!! PS.2. The story ended up long anyway.

Shotty, never in my whole FA experience have I been killed so many times with a shotgun as today only. Yes, those things are overpowered, 1 (unlucky) shot equals at least 80-95 damage, the regular ones just kill. Yes, those things are too accurate, they beat the G3A3 and G36, hell they probably beat sniper rifles. A guy killed me with one shot from the log on river, while I was not closer to him than the ammobox below, on blue side. And I was behind my teammate. Not to mention I had not less than 60 hp at that time. Even the guy was surprised. And I could come up with more examples. Well, the best example is I'm being seriously OWNED by my clanmate BountyHunter now, since he uses the Saiga mostly. I hope they fix those shottys. Anyone who thinks they are OK now, please answer this question - why doesn't any army in the world use shotguns for assault purposes? (Maybe except the Salvation Army, ) The answer lies in their innacuracy and extreme weakness over longer range. Unlike in 2.9. *sigh* Peace. Bane
