Macgyver mentioned this mod to me a few weeks ago, and later helped me get set up playing. Mac and I agreed that we should play this on the server sometime, so we will start playing it soon. This willl mean shutting the main Armory server down while the game is active. Its a modern warfare game that is a "Mod" (modification) of Battlefiled 1942, just as Firearms is a "Mod" to Half-Life. You must have a copy of BF1942, but the mod "Desert Combat" is a free download. Here is their website:

For those that are interested, please be ready to go, as we will launch DS very soon on the server. This will be limited to just one day a week, but it will leave us an alternative for FA and nice change of pace. For those who have not played, I can say that you will be in for some great fun.

 

StateCop helped me figure out how to get it up and running, as we played it on our server for about 2 hours last night. I think I crashed 5 helicpters and 12 planes. StateCop crashed into on one flight,...so I won't count that one. Yes, you can drive tanks, fly planes, and engage in ground combat... GREAT FUN!

ahhhhh i dont have BF1942

no no no...are we switching over?Do not switch over to Desert Combat, please please pleaseThat mod is...well...to put in lighter terms...stupid.It strives for realism and gets as far as Counter-StrikeThe only realism you'll find there is the models, and maybe the maps.It's a horrible mod. Ever since I downloaded it and played it for a bit (about 3 months ago) about every single server has had at least 1 lamer or tker that was just there to ruin the fun.That's my opinion of course, I really don't like it. I've joined probaly three clans for it (when i first started playing) and all of them quickly collapsed.

We are not switching over....we are going to play 1 or 2 time a week depending on popularity. We can Admin the server because it wll be ours...so no problem with lamers

i have battlefeild and i've played DC, but i'm reluctant to load Bf and get the new version of DC again b/c its almost like its a hard game to play. and i know in the in the version b4 the current one the AK was way to overpowered compared to the m16. i dont kow, it just seems like you cant do anything unless your in a tank, bradly, airplane or in a attack hellicopter. also with Americas Army on my computer, loading BF and DC again will bog my computer down.i'll think about it.

I left santa some oh so subtle hints about wanting BF 42 for Xmas this year, so im going to say count me in, though i wont get to play till after Xmas. I played a little DC early on with a, er, uh, less than legit copy of BF and a uh purloined Cd key (i dont do it anymore, i swear) and saw it had great potential. After seeing some of the promos for the newer versions i have been desperately wanting to play it for some time now.

i am SO in and i am SO gonna get owned... which brings me to the topic of Lamers and TKers, you will need to draw up some rules like the swear filter on TA-FA to deal with htem, they come in thick and fast people...

I have BF1942, but ever since my video card burned up, my frame rates are terrible, making it almost unplayable, except at extremely low resolutions. Unless the mod is not as graphic intesive, I wont be able to participate like I would want to until I can get a new rig built. Hopefully I can start getting the stuff I need after the 1st of the year. 1st thing I'll buy is a new video card and use it in my current machine so then I could probably join the fray. Til then, happy fragging :wink:

A GF4MX440 will play it just fine at 800x600x16bit.They do not cost much to get by till you get enough money for a real card.This is a really good mod people.It has many of the weapons that FA has.You can rush fly camp cam etc etc just like in FA.I have played it a lot and it does NOT SUCK. I completely agree with all three (the first being from experience).

GREAT game! I have been playing in since the mod come out and it has come a LONG way just like all mods, but it is really good now. They have other mods for this game too that are fun. I found a GI Joe mod for all those people my age who had the GI Joe stuff as kids. They have all the same vehicles.

I can play....When I formatted my hd I had to re-install BF1942....but I was unable to find my first disc...so when I clean my room hopefully I will find it, Anyway, sounds like a great Idea, I will attend whenever you guys put it up....YAY...sounds fun...
