March 20, 200620 yr SO, I am sitting and realizing that I have no inspiration to play BF2. I just bought the Euro the other day and have barely looked at it. I played each map once. Woohoo 3 whole maps and they are the same as BF2 and Spec Ops. Weapons are no hell or different to me. I don't fly and I hear the planes are not so good anyway. The thing that is really troubling me about this game is the Medal/badge/ribbon system. These awards were something to aim for but when people are gaining them by nefarious means then what's the point. I could go and get the medal for 15 hours in a mounted gun and it takes me 9 months and some n0ob goes and sits in a MG for 15 hours and does nothing not helping his team and just sitting there for the medal. So, what's the point. It gets bad on some servers where you have guys sitting in tanks off near the out of bounds just to get the hours in for Expert tank. Some fun. I don't really care if he is having fun but nobody else can use the tank and if there is no admin then we are out of luck. Sure, you say don't play there but it's also annoying when you finaly find a server with a decent amount of people and decent ping combination then you don't want to leave. I play mostly at The Armory but like to go elsewhere too. As for rankings, what's the point there also. Rank gives you nothing but the prestige and the commander if you want it. Why want it? If you really like to control the game and have no direct effect on it but artillery go ahead. The commander got stripped of all his/her point getting means so now you might as well not even do it. The only thing left that I think is any fun is playing SF with the guys and tournament games. I have no idea when we will get another tourny game so I guess I will wait for that. Another thought I had was about the punish system. Imagine if they had that in Firearms. Nobody would leave a game with a positive score LOL. Another thing about this game is you don't even have to be good to play. You can aim as well as you like but some guy is going to kill you with a random nade from 5000 feet away. It's maddening. I guess this game is made for the masses and not for anyone to be really good at because why use skill when you can just hammer away with a PKM or nade or artillery. So, we have lag, poor sportsmanship, poor adminning other servers and the biggest one is the underlying feeling when I play that EA doesn't care and this is never going to become even 80% bug free. Sure, all games have their problems but do they all keep releasing more and more unfinished expansions? Well, I will stop now
March 20, 200620 yr I agree that the medals shouldn't be judged by length of time. It should be kills. Just like in real life, where a pilot would get ace after 5 kills or something. Obviously the in-game number would be much higher, but it would help people get in the fight. The one thing I don't like is the artillery, simply because it always hits me, killing me 2 times sometimes during 1 arty strike. What I do LOVE though is the M249. This thing is a great sniper rifle!
March 20, 200620 yr I havent really felt like playing any either, I get mad twice for every one time I enjoy it
March 20, 200620 yr i was gonna download the euro patch but i'm still waiting for one person to tell me it's worth it.
March 20, 200620 yr I think it is. The maps are really good, a lot people are saying that at least and I agree. For me its the lag, the lag, oh and the lag. I usually have no problems finding teamwork on a random pub, but now I cant even play due to lag
March 20, 200620 yr Klink (and most everyone else here), you know my feelings on this. Since the 1.2 patch, which I was a STRONG advocate for, I have not been able play BF2 at all. After the patch failed to install correctly, I uninstalled completely - reinstalled, again and again. Due to a flawed CD2, I have not yet been able to get the reinstalled (works sometimes, but most of the time not). A buddy of mine is SUPPOSED to get me a copy of his CD2 so I can at least install the game again. Anyhoo - that's my same old rant which I promise never to repeat again. But in the meantime I've been playing quite a bit of BF1942 and BFV and both games are much more fun in my opinion. I think a lot of it has to do with the LACK of the points/medal/ribbon system. You really play to win each round... not to accumulate points over the long term. I understand that EA was trying something new and while at the beginning it seemed really cool and hip --- I think that the "wonderful new aspect" feel of it wore off even faster than MySpace.com, Teletubbies, big Hair and tie-die t-shirts. Lesson learned EA (we hope). So, in the meantime, put your BF2 discs up on the shelf and join me for some BFV or BF1942. Those games are still quite entertaining.
March 20, 200620 yr i know i know its another rant on how bf2 sucks and stuff, but really. u all know that i used toplay bf2 alot...subcell would make fun of me for it now i mean im getting a 50 ping on a server and im banding like crazy. ive tried all the fixes but the game has kkinda lost its shine to me. thats y ive been playing other games such as CS and NS. i seriously hope that EA releases some worth while patches because it they keep realeasing games with too many bugs to even count then im out of options for EA/DICE.
March 20, 200620 yr Hmmmmm. Thanks for sharing the "vents". I feel less "alone". I like BF2 when it works online. Which is most the time for my older pc IF i get in server with ping well below 100 and no high pingers to me in there. Might we try in future to get away from EA ? Sierra got or coming out with anything inticing soon ?
March 20, 200620 yr I agree with yall about what you've said but the best way to expirience the game for what it was created for is tournoment play, we should get into that stuff more often.
March 20, 200620 yr I agree with yall about what you've said but the best way to expirience the game for what it was created for is tournoment play, we should get into that stuff more often. A lot of people say that, "we should get more into tournies" but when it comes time, it always seems like people say they can make it, then when match day comes we are scouring xfire, MSN or whatever just to make the player count. On the same token, the people that say this kind of stuff, usually are never around when the match is going to take place....

March 20, 200620 yr +rep, no wait that doesn't exist. I really haven't felt like playing BF2 recently either. It just has too many lame things about it. Every game has lame things in it, BF2 just seems to add up to more things. Like, it seriously doesn't matter how good you can aim, someone is just going to be hiding on a roof, or in the trees, or behind a building, or in a million other places and you'll just die without having any chance. Or you'll be in the reverse situation and they won't have any chance, which is also boring. Or they'll be in a tank and you'll be something other than AT or SpecOp and you'll have no chance to kill them. Even if you are AT or SpecOps chances are you won't have a chance to kill them unless you can sneak up on them so that they don't have a chance to kill you, which is also boring. Same kind of thing with planes. When I play BF2, every time I kill or get killed, I think, "Man that was really lame." In an entire map I probably have less than 10 total kills or deaths that I though were really earned. I feel similarly while I play CSS, but the boring kills in that were only random lucky head shots or flash kills. In BF2 it's tanks, apcs, planes, sniper rifles, nade launchers, spawn camping, tkers, etc. Also the whole ranking thing is boring too. I mean, it's kind of fun to have some goal to stive for for a while, but eventually I just felt like, I'm playing a game where I can't even use all of the guns. It's like CSS, except instead of waiting a round to get a gun, you have to play for a month or even longer to get the gun you want. And if you unlock a gun you don't like, you're s.o.l. Even if you do like the gun, you have to wait for a month to be able to unlock the next gun you'd like. There's always the chance you'll find whatever gun you're looking for lying on the ground, but you won't always be in a position to change classes for it and you'll rarely even be lucky enough to find it, and if you do find it, it's gone as soon as you die. There's also the whole, you can only get certain guns if you buy the expansion thing, which I think is completely stupid. I wouldn't mind if the guns were only useable in that expansion or if everyone had access to the the expansion's guns, but not the maps. But when people without the expansion have to compete with people that have the expansion, those people are at a noticeable disadvantage just because they didn't spend more money of BF2. That just boils down to, whoever spends more money gets a reward, not who's better at the game gets a reward. Also the whole medal thing is dumb too, just like Klink said. You could spend weeks working on getting a medal while some random dork gets it in 1 day by underhanded means. What's also annoying is the whole forced friendly fire aspect, because as we've almost certainly all seen, friendly fire comes with very noticeable disadvantages. People who tk on accident get punished. People who are forced to tk are punished. Commanders who drop artillery somewhere tk people who were too dumb to get out of the blast area. Dumb commanders drop artillery their own team and tk them. People tk each other to get tanks or planes. People launch nades indiscriminately and tk people. Also there are a whole lot of things with the dynamics of gameplay that I find annoying. One person will take a jeep and drive off, leaving you to spend 3 minutes walking somewhere or to just sit around and wait for another vehicle to spawn, only to get in some lame way. You can jump into a vehicle with a stupid driver who ends up getting you both killed. Not to mention all of the "fixes" they make to the game which are too numerous to be repeated. The game runs perfectly fine for me and I still don't like the game. They half fix a dozen problems and make 13 new ones. All the maps load within a few seconds, but I have to wait 3 or 4 minutes for it to get done validating. I've left BF2 to play CSS again, and even with the hackers, poor hit registration, random headshots from noobs, and countless flashbangs, I don't think CSS even has half the problems that BF2 does and it has far less hassle than BF2. I would play FA more, but that's almost completely dead, so oh well. FA had by far the least lame kills of any game I played. Most of the time if someone killed me, or if I killed them, we deserved whatever happened.
March 20, 200620 yr FA2 please. heh, yea. Its going to come down to that if bf2 keeps going down this path.
March 20, 200620 yr Wow, I am reading these comments and they make me think ...hmm I see a lot of fingers pointed at BF2/EA/DICE I see a lot of negative comments about BF2 Well, I have a few comments also. This is the best multiplayer FPS game ever created ...without a doubt. Is it buggy? Hell yes its buggy Is it still the greatest FPS game ever created? Hell yes it is ...and you all know it. Lets clarify a few issues here. 1. When the game was released, everyone thought I was crazy when I mentioned that the "ranked" server idea was the worst thing they could have done to the game. I had our server running the "unranked" version, but nobody wanted to play on the server. Everyone said Gator, we LOVE these cool medals and ranks, and basically told me I should as well. So, after months and months of denial, I finally converted and started to gain ranks and medals. Now you tell me they have ruined the game. Nuff said! 2. We have turned off the ability for players to punish you any longer, so that is really not an issue now. 3. Do players circumvent the system to gain medals? Hell yes they do. That is human nature. I can say, however, I have not seen any evidence of blatant cheating though, so that's a good thing. 4. People leave you behind? Yes, but try to spawn where there is an abundance of vehicles. 5. I also see the talk of "smacktards" in other servers. Well, thats why we spend $179 a month so we don't have to put up with them. 6. Is BF2 getting old and boring? Yes, a little, so that's why I have been shaking things up a bit by bringing up the Special Forces server recently, as I will tonight as a matter of fact. I will also bring up the Firearms server as well, so lets play some BF2SF/Firearms tonight. 7. The one constant factor about the whole situation is we have a great group of folks here at TAC, and no matter what game we play, we always have each other to help make the game fun.

March 20, 200620 yr Klink you missed the scrim/pug on FA. RA hosted the server and it was great fun. i never came close to a positive score but oh well. but yeah, im burned out of BF2. :/. it just seems too repetitive. if they had allowed people to use other maps and make them ranked it would be better.

March 21, 200620 yr Author I am more fed up with the people that cheat or lame their medals not EA so much. It is the greatest game ever for FPS as far as all that goes.
March 21, 200620 yr *rant engaged* ok so i am getting bored with all my games. WoW is still fun, but i dont like the grinding. so i say to myself, ill play some regular BF2. oh joy! i get to fly again! ! WRONG! i find a good server, you know, one without everyone crowding around the jets. well, i soon find out why. i try to hop in one, i get it, i take off. fun for a minute, until i get shot down. no biggie i thought, ill just try to avoid him. bah, its like WoW PvP. you try to avoid the gankers with all that you can muster, but you still cannot evade them. needless to say, i left out of frustration that the only thing i came in the server to do, was ruined by another person. oh well, guess its my fault for not knowing how to fly :/. /end rant.
March 21, 200620 yr For such a great game sure doesn't feel that way from time to time. If only EA/Dice waited a little more and gave more time fixing the problems before they released it then maybe just maybe we wouldn't have all these bugs & problems, like the name bug. I like I said before BF2 was released prematurely.
