August 28, 200619 yr Later this week there wil be a rather low key announcement that EA are officially dropping support for BF2; quote: "In preparation for the earlier than expected release of BF2142". Despite the public betas and extensive, and indeed very costly testing by DICE and partners, solutions to the outstanding and most notorious issues of BF2 post 1.3 have remained elusive. Support for the game has dropped by nearly 50% since the release of patch 1.3 and ranked server rental by over 70%. With this in mind it is no longer feasible for EA to continue to support a game that has seemingly terminal problems the pursuit of solutions for which have run into a prohibitive area of cost. EA gave a first sign of the imminent demise of bf2 by permanently closing all UK multiplay servers backed by its UK offices earlier this week, and by sending instructions to ranked server providers to wind down the service. If BF2 end users will be disappointed by the lack of server support, the imminent end of EA's contract for player database storage with Gamespy may well raise tempers. EA's agreement with Gamespy ends on October 1, and as EA will use their own EA membership service to log player records for BF2142, the BF2 gamespy service will terminate on this date, meaning all current BF2 ranked players will lose all playing records. The final BF2 patch release will be a new 1.4b patch, which will remove the log in screen function but as a small bonus will allow all bf2 players to have all unlock weapons ingame, hardly much reward for the hard work put in by the legions of let down bf2 fans. somebdy at EA has some hard work to do over the next few days, and the success of BF2142 looks even more critical than ever for the PC gaming crowd.
August 28, 200619 yr Author I just read that off of the EA forums. I hope this is true. I guess it doesn't come as a suprise though.
August 28, 200619 yr Since BF2142 is built on the same code platform that BF2 was built on (from what I've heard) I expect it to be plagued with similar problems that BF2 suffered from. It's unfortunate that the opportunity for the world's best game ever was right there within reach and they screwed it up. This is a pivotal time for EA. If they drop the ball on 2142 - it's going to be very hard to regain the trust of their customers.
August 28, 200619 yr What's that quote Gator mentioned in the other thread? "cut and run" wasn't it? I'n a way i can hardly blame companies make money and when they don't that's a problem so they get rid of the problem being bf2? this isn't the first time EA has done this i still one my copy of motor city online which was made by EA as well. Profits from it took a steep drop so they completely closed down ever server for it.
August 28, 200619 yr Wow, nice find Phrogg. I thought somehting was kinds fishy when I logged into the Beta, and it logged in fast. The good news is that BF2142 is a blast, and we will have many days of enjoyment playing it. We can still crank up a BF2 or SF server for a change of pace. EA and Gamespy/FilePlanet/IGN are a bunch of damn crooks, and mislead their followers. The reason the game has dropped off is because they gave us crap patches that got buggier as each released passed. I just hope this is not true, but I personally saw the wrting on the wall during the BF:Vietnam days where they left everyone hanging. It just doesn't suprise me anymore. The only thing consistant has been "us" staying together as a group. We shall overcome, we shall overcome.
August 28, 200619 yr Wow...if that's true. Anyway's when the bf2142 tuning beta or whatever supposed to go completely public? Don't really wanna pay for it.
August 28, 200619 yr can u link me to that post? I can definatly see that happening and i dont doubt it. but a lot of people on the EA forums are full of "it" they sound pretty accurate though.

August 28, 200619 yr But it would make sense if it were true they've drained every penny they could from the game and now it would be time for them to try to bleed you dry another way...
August 28, 200619 yr But it would make sense if it were true they've drained every penny they could from the game and now it would be time for them to try to bleed you dry another way... EXACTLY what i was thinking. they kill BF2 to make us all hyped up for 2142, and then since it would be critical for 2142 to succeed, everyone would play it and it would be an outstanding success. its like being stuck in a headlock, you can break out of the headlock, but the fight still goes on...
August 28, 200619 yr EA and Gamespy/FilePlanet/IGN are a bunch of damn crooks, and mislead their followers. Exactly why I am not getting the beta that I am dying to play. What kind of service is that EA? It's bad enough I payed for 2 booster packs that were pretty much garbage so I won't be fooled 3 times LOL.

August 28, 200619 yr wow, that kind of sucks if its true. I honestly would not be suprised though. BF2142 sounds and looks really cool but now im having second thoughts because of who made it. Only time will tell...................
August 29, 200619 yr anyone surprised?? i sure as hell am not...the support has been crap from day one...why would they try to make it better when they can work on fixing the bugs in their new game
