Arrrrrr! Violent video games
Violent video games make people more relaxed according to new research discovered by Develop Magazine, which found that a sampling of 292 World of Warcraft players, ages 12-83 years, were more likely to feel calm or tired after playing a round of the popular online game. "There were actually higher levels of relaxation before and after playing the game as opposed to experiencing anger but this did very much depend on personality type," said Jane Barnett, who headed the Middlesex study. Translation: If you're an aggressive jackass before you play a video game, you'll still be one after; and video games don't magically turn peaceful people into violent offenders. hmmm I know a few players like dat

That Fly on the Wall Could Be an American Cyborg Spy http://www.foxnews.com/images/359438/0_61_032008_CyborgInsect.jpghttp://www.foxnews.com/images/287012/2_61_moth.jpg At some point in the not-too-distant future, a moth may take flight in the hills of northern Pakistan, and flap towards a suspected terrorist training camp. http://www.foxnews.com/images/312293/1_61_100907_spy_flies1.jpg Witnesses are buzzing about recent sightings of robotic-looking dragonflies seen at Washington and New York political events. And U.S. government and private agencies have admitted to striving for the spy technology, The Washington Post reports, though no one has confessed to deploying the bugged bugs. The creation of insects whose flesh grows around computer parts — known from science fiction as cyborgs — has been described as one of the most ambitious robotics projects ever conceived by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the research and development arm of the U.S. Department of Defense.

DOOMSday FEAR causes Lawsuit!
The end is near! http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/msnbc/Components/Photos/061229/061229_lhc_hmed_6p.hlarge.jpg The builders of the world's biggest particle collider are being sued in federal court over fears that the experiment might create globe-gobbling black holes or never-before-seen strains of matter that would destroy the planet. Representatives at Fermilab in Illinois and at Europe's CERN laboratory, two of the defendants in the case, say there's no chance that the Large Hadron Collider would cause such cosmic catastrophes. Nevertheless, they're bracing to defend themselves in the courtroom as well as the court of public opinion. The Large Hadron Collider, or LHC, is due for startup later this year at CERN's headquarters on the French-Swiss border! Stop the scientists before they destroy us all! That's what a Hawaii man with a background in nuclear physics is asking a court to do. The plaintiffs' concerns? That the LHC could accidentally create strange new particles that would instantly transform any matter they touched, engulfing the Earth, or, even worse, make a rapidly expanding black hole that could consume the entire planet. "[T]he compression of the two atoms colliding together at nearly light speed will cause an irreversible implosion, forming a miniature version of a giant black hole," reads the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Honolulu. [A]ny matter coming into contact with it would fall into it and never be able to escape. Eventually, all of earth would fall into such growing micro-black-hole, converting earth into a medium-sized black hole, around which would continue to orbit the moon, satellites, the ISS, etc."

Comcast Decides NoT to block File Sharing
Ahura please bring our main computer on line and d/l all 21st century music http://a.abcnews.com/images/Technology/comcast_080326_ms.jpg Under pressure from federal regulators, Comcast Corp. reversed its stance over hampering online file-sharing by its subscribers and promised Thursday to treat all types of Internet traffic equally. The Internet service provider said it will collaborate with BitTorrent Inc., the company that invented a more efficient successor to file-sharing services such as Napster and Kazaa, to improve the transmission of large files over the Internet — and it will eventually stop delaying file transfers based on the specific technology used. Since user reports of interference with file-sharing traffic were confirmed by an Associated Press investigation in October, Comcast had vigorously defended its practice, most recently at a hearing of the Federal Communications Commission in February. At issue was whether a service provider like Comcast has the right to control what types of Internet traffic it will let through, block or delay. Comcast said it needs to clamp down on heavy users of Internet bandwidth so others won't be slowed down. www.abc.com

"Our intentions are to use it only in tactical situations as an extra set of eyes," said Detective Juan Villalba, a police department spokesman.

UFO drone in Cali
http://www.latimes.com/media/photo/2008-03/36873197.jpg A UFO cold case We were working for people who didn't want to be identified," Davis said, "looking for people who didn't want to be found." SLEUTHS: Private eyes Frankie Dixon, left, and T.K. Davis at a park in Capitola, Calif., where they’re investigating reports that a UFO was photographed by a man with the Internet name of Raji, who later vanished into cyberspace. Where's that power pole? And the guy who said he photographed a flying saucer above it? Two down-to-earth private eyes want to know. UFO hunters around the world started buzzing. Apparently, Raji wasn't alone. Elsewhere, other alleged eyewitnesses posted pictures and video of the quirky little craft. It became known as the "California drone" because it was clear from the photos that no human could have fit inside to fly the thing. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-drone18mar18,1,7704475.story http://www.ufocasebook.com/2007/chad3.jpg http://www.ufocasebook.com/2007/chad2.jpg http://www.ufocasebook.com/2007/7013a.jpg

AMD Rip? cpus BUILT by IBM?
Rumor mill abuzz with AMD-IBM merger, partnership talk AMD and IBM are already engaged in a research and development partnership, and MarketWatch quotes JMP Securities analyst Krishna Shankar as saying the firms could strengthen the partnership and turn it into a more formal affair. The partnership could play into the "asset-light" business model that AMD CEO Hector Ruiz mentioned last week, as well. According to Shankar, a deeper partnership between AMD and IBM could allow the former to outsource production to IBM's New York fab. The two companies could also enter a cross-licensing deal to deflect possible lawsuits from Intel that would seek to limit AMD's processor outsourcing capability. In the wake of AMD's fourth-quarter financial results announcement, in which the company announced near operational break-even and a $1.77 billion net loss, a rumor has emerged that IBM may be planning a takeover bid for the ailing chipmaker. The rumor has gained enough momentum to warrant a mention on Reuters, which says AMD's shares went up 8% yesterday as a result of the story.

At first astronomers were disappointed with pictures sent back from the surface of the Red Planet by the six-wheel robot four years ago. But a space fan spotted the figure, which was just a pinprick in the original photograph. It was blown up and posted on a website.
