SSD - Tricks/Tweaks, Free up space, General understanding
It's true that an SSD is a lot faster than a hard drive for the virtual memory. But note that it does write to it a lot. The page file really doesn't matter that much if you have a lot of system memory. I have 24 GB of RAM and my virtual memory set to 2048 MB. In all honestly, you really don't want your computer to use your virtual memory. Think of it as a backup memory when you run out of system memory. While you shouldn't completely disable it, you want your PC to use its fastest memory, namely the RAM, as much as possible. And you want to alleviate your primary drive from writing as much as possible. Moving it to another drive is just a means to free up space on your primary storage drive.

SSD - Tricks/Tweaks, Free up space, General understanding
Highly recommended tweaks for freeing up space: With an SSD you want to reduce the amount of writes and there are a few steps to doing that: Step 1 - Disable/move system restore: The first thing you can do is disable system restore or move the system restore files to a different hard drive. Your operating systems will create system restore files every now and then. They can also be rather large. Doing this will free up space and reduce writes. Step 2 - Disable and delete hibernation: The second thing you can do is disabling and also deleting the hibernation feature and file. The hibernation file is at average about 7 GB. If on Windows 8, run CMD as administrator. Type powercfg -h off in the CMD and you will delete the hibernation file and also disable this feature. Hibernation means your OS will write your current session on the SSD when you put it into sleep mode. While this will save you the trouble of losing data upon power loss you still write unnecessary data to your SSD. In contrast, standby (as it is called now) will save your current session on your RAM. This allows for quick startup but if there is a power loss you lose your current session. Step 3 - Move the virtual memory: The third thing you can do is move your virtually memory to a secondary (or another) drive. By default your virtual memory is twice the amount of RAM. So if you have like 16 GB of RAM your virtual memory will be around 32 GB. So you can imagine what 5GB ish + 7 GB ish + 32 GB ish will do to your free space. On a fresh Windows install you can possibly increase your free space with up to 40 GB depending on your system specifications. In addition, a thing to keep in mind is that an SSD reads faster the lesser data is stored on it. So don't keep it near full. Highly recommended SSD brands: Samsung and Intel. Kingston is also a good brand. Can't get your SSD to work? Turn off IDE and enable AHCI in BIOS. SATA 1, 2 or 3? PCI-Express? SATA 1 has a max speed of 150 MB/s, SATA 2 a max speed of 300 MB/s and SATA 3 a max speed of 600 MB/s. PCI-E 1, 2, 3 and 4 has an average max speed of 4 GB/s, 8 GB/s, 16 GB/s and 32 GB/s respectively. Which connector you want to use depends on the read and write speeds of your SSD. If it is below 300 MB/s there is no reason to take up SATA3 if you can use it for something else. However, If the SSD's speed exceeds 300 MB/s then SATA3 or higher is recommended to take full advantage of your SSD. The same principle should be applied to PCI-E SSDs. Write speed vs. Read speed? Unless you write massive amounts of data and often then read speed is what you should focus on. You may have noticed that many SSDs are asynchronous in terms of write and read speeds. They can have like 300 MB/s read speed but only 200 MB/s write speed. Don't worry! While write speed is still important for overall performance, read speed should be your priority and the determining factor when purchasing an SSD. What to install on an SSD? To take good advantage of the sheer speed of an SSD, installing the operating systems and programs is a good idea. This allows your OS and programs to startup fast. Should you install games on it? If you have the space and if the game requires it, of course you can! Games like Battlefield 4 will load much faster than a hard drive upon joining a server. Whereas an hard drive can take up to 4 min or more to launch BF4 an SSD can take less than a minute to do the same. **************************************** **************************************** General concept of what an SSD is: An SSD stands for Solid State Drive and is basically no different from a USB stick and system memory (RAM). What makes SSD and USB sticks different from RAM is that RAM is volatile (loses its data upon no power) whereas the aforementioned do not. An SSD is non-volatile thanks to its NAND type memory modules. SLC, MLC, TLC (Single layer, multi layer, triple layer cell): These three words refer to how many binary numbers and values (data) each respective cell can hold. TLC is the most cost effective one because it can hold more values per each cell, making it easy for SSD manufacturers to produce SSDs with high storage capacity. However, this also means that each cell will write more than an SLC SSD. So what you gain in storage capacity you lose in number of writes and consequently stability and longevity. What makes SSD different from a hard drive in the sense of cells is that an SSD needs to rewrite the entire cell even if a single value or piece of data is altered. This is the very reason why you want to reduce the amount of writes as much as possible. A hard drive will instead simply write the altered or added data at the end of the pre-existing data (this is also partially what leads to disk fragmentation). Binary representation: SLC (2 binary values) 0 1 MLC (4 binary values) 0 1 10 11 TLC (8 binary values) 0 1 10 11 100 101 110 111

BF4 Game Not Starting, Crashing, 3 Step Standard Fix
Hi everyone. Some of you may have noticed already but I thought I would mention it anyways. Battlefield 4 is a very GPU intensive game and even more so than its previous installments. Consequently this also means that your graphics card runs hotter during BF4 play. Some crashes can be reduced by keeping your graphics card running cooler during BF4 play. This especially since almost every graphics card is designed and set by factory to operate with low noise in mind. Meaning that by default your graphics card may spin up to 50% fan speed at most. There are several good tools out there for both monitoring and controlling your graphics cards. MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision X are both good tools for this. They can be found at places like www.guru3d.com. While this solution is not directly linked to solving BF4 related crash issues it is still a way to reduce crashes overall.

BF4 Operation Metro, first look
I am not against the idea of DICE reusing maps from BF3 or any other Battlefield installment. However, shouldn't they be making new maps in order to make BF4 more evolutionary rather than revolutionary? Of course, other elements would probably also be required for BF4 to be evolutionary, but if they keep reusing maps in their newest installments and those to come then what use is there in calling them successors? Are they running of out map design ideas?

PC update in the works for BF4
Interesting bug. I never knew it existed but I thought it was odd when people were killing me so easily and so quickly with certain weapons at certain occasions... knowing that it would take me a larger amount of the clip of the same weapon to kill them. Glad to hear they are looking into it.

BF4 Graphical Settings FPS Comparison
Hi everyone! I thought I should mention that Field of View (FOV) also impacts performance to a great extent. The higher the FOV, the higher the impact on performance.

999 ping - BFBC2
It seems to work.... for now. It could be one of those "one day it works and another day it does not" moments.

999 ping - BFBC2
Just for you people's information I have managed to connect to two different servers. I was still having problem at that time but I did manage to play for a few hours. Unfortunately all I get now when I connect to any server is that the Connection to the server has been lost and the Server is full. PunkBuster and Bad Company 2 have both been updated.

999 ping - BFBC2
I have encountered a problem with this game, the retail version. All servers in the server browser show a ping of 999. I did some research on the Internet and this seems to be a common problem. A reported solution is running the game as administrator and/or checking Run as administrator under the compatibility tab. Unfortunately this does not solve my problem. I am still unable to connect to all servers, including European based ones. I have 64-it Windows 7 Ultimate, ADSL connection, DIR-120 D-Link router, and I use Windows Firewall and Avast Antivirus. The game is allowed access in the firewall settings. Any ideas as to what to do?

Is it just me or does anyone else have problems with a dump file in DX10?

Tom Clancy's Hawx
Are you sure you have unlocked those, because they are not exactly unlockable as far as I know. The reason why I listed them as secret is because they do exist in the game but you cannot unlock them by finishing the campaign or reaching level 40 (though there are level requirements for using them). Additionally, they do not appear on the "All Planes" list where you can see all aircrafts including those you have not unlocked. The secret aircrafts are like those that are unlocked by either VIP or Pre-order codes. They are hidden. I wonder why Ubisoft would do that. Official HAWX aircraft list (Pre-order & VIP included): A-6A Intruder A-7B Corsair II AV-8B Harrier II A-10A Thunderbolt II EA-6B Prowler EF-111A RAVEN Eurofighter Typhoon F-2 F-4G AdvancedWildWeasel F-5A Freedom Fighter F-5E Tiger II F-14A Tomcat F-14B Bombcat F-14D SuperTomcat F-15 Active F-15C Eagle F-15E StrikeEagle F-16 FIGHTING FALCON F-117 NIGHTHAWK FA-18C Hornet FA-18 RC FA-18E SuperHornet F-20 Tigershark F-22 RAPTOR F-35 LIGHTNING II JAGUAR Mig-21 Fishbed Mig-25 Foxbat Mig-29 Fulcrum Mig-33 SuperFulcrum MIRAGE F1 MIRAGE IV P MIRAGE III MIRAGE 5 MIRAGE 2000 C MIRAGE 2000-5 RAFALE C Su-25 Frogfoot Su-27 Flanker Su-32 FN Su-34 Fullback Su-35 SuperFlanker Su-37 Terminator Su-47 Berkut Saab-39 Gripen X-29 YF-12A YF-17 Cobra YF-23 Black Widow II A-12 Avenger II F-18 HARV FB-22 Strike Raptor Saab-35 Draken XA-20 Razorback *********************** *********************** List of secret aircrafts (screenshot): F-4E Phantom II F-111F AARDVARK Mig-MFI Mig-23 Flogger Mig-31 Foxhound Mirage 2000 N Mirage 4000 Rafael M RF-15 PeakEagle Saab-37 Viggen Su-39 Frogfoot SR-71 Blackbird

I hope we all know about the bonus airplanes you can get via VIP and preorder. There are some differences between the PC and the console versions. At least as far as unlockables and bonuses go. For example, on the console version you need a VIP code to unlock the XA-20 Razorback, which is unlockable through finishing campaign on the PC version. Additionally, the Saab-35 Draken (VIP code) is said to be available only for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. The A-12 Avenger II, FB-22 Strike Raptor and F-18 HARV are available on all versions, though via pre-order codes. However, the PC version of HAWX has quite a few more secrets. I made screenshots of these secret aircrafts, so behold: http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/7314/hawxaircrafts2s.jpg

Tom Clancy's Hawx
It does seem like a cool game. I played the demo and I do I have the full version for PC. However, I have yet to play it. I'm a busy woman. ... No but seriously. I probably won't be playing any BF2 this week. I have a lot of work to do.

In game Promotions!
Are the servers which store your progress on a timer or something? It seems they take time to refresh your rank. Promotion appears to be totally random. It would be great if one could get one's promotion at the moment the requirements are fulfilled.

Adjust BF2 resolution with command line
Are you sick and tired of playing BF2 at a lower resolution than the native resolution of your monitor, or playing BF2 in 4:3 ratio (1280 x 1024 etc.) when you have a widescreen monitor (1680 x 1050 etc.)? No more do you need to have this problem with the following solution. On some or rather most computers, BF2 does not detect all the resolutions the graphics card supports. This may depend on hardware and video drivers. There is a workaround for this. Create a shortcut unless you do not have one. Right click the shortcut and select Properties. Then click the Shortcut tab and add +widescreen 1 +szx WIDTH +szy HEIGHT at the end of the line in the Target field. For example, "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +widescreen 1 +szx 1920 +szy 1200 http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/6883/bf2resolution.png In order for it to work with Xfire you need to do add the command line in the Options. Click Tools and then Options. Then go to the Games tab and select Battlefield 2. Add the above-mentioned command line under Extra Command Line Parameters. Click Apply and OK, and then you are good to go! You can now join a server via Xfire and keep your desired resolution. http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3965/xfireresolution.png SAMPLES: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/9616/bf2screenshot.th.jpg http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/4360/bf22009030723115266.th.jpg http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/2396/bf22009030721155676.th.jpg
