I agree Direct X 9.0c is in beta. That would likely be your problem. If you don't need 9.0c, I would go to 9.0b. If you do need it way may have to deal with it until they release an updated version.
  3. Try contact the cable company and see if they are working on a know problem. Try going to the command prompt and ping some servers and see if there is any packet loss. Seems like a collision somewhere on the network, but what do I know.
  4. Yeah I have a software that catches all the adware. Those things are worse than worm viruses. So hard to get rid of if not protected. To me formatting is like that tiny space between the refrigerator and the wall that you just can't get to. You don't clean it everyday as it would be headache pulling the refrigerator back from the wall, but a worthy job every 2 or 3 months.
  5. I'm one of those that likes to reformat. Some people thinks its a hassle, but its not if everything is organized well. Having a separate hard drive or partition helps to keep backups without concern of backing up before you format. One way to make it easier is slip streaming your install. You can create ISO images of your Win xp disk to include windows updates and also automate the installation customized to your needs. With slip streaming your install you can allow the install to automatically insert your cd-key and also allow setup to know the options you desire without user intervention. Its fine if you don't like reformating. You can usually fix most problem without formating. My reason for formatting isn't usually because I have a problem but because there is lots of trash left behind on a PC. The registery is the big junk yard and if your not protected well, adware likes to attach itself there. When you uninstall software normally its trash is left behind in the registery. There is nothing more appealing than a fresh install. It is nearly impossible to get it to that state without reformatting.
  6. Is this a second hard drive used for storage only or are you installing windows on this drive. If a second hard drive do this. Click Start, Control Panel, Adminstrative Tools, Computer Management, on the left frame click Disk Management. You should see the logical drive for it, then right click, then click format. If the logical drive doesn't exist then probably no partition exist. See if the physical drive itself exist then create a logical drive using the partition utility in Disk Management. If the hard drive is being used to install Windows XP then set the cd-rom to boot first (setting is in the bios). Insert the Win XP cd and reboot. Run the win Xp setup and it will detect hard drive available and give you options for formatting and partitioning to get the drive ready for winxp installation.
  7. Whoa.. Deep Gator.. But well said.. I'm surprised you haven't argued that there is lack of nuclear ability.
  8. I second that. To me a game with infantry only is boring. Battlefield brought all types of fighting into one game. It's awesome to fly over a base with a helicoptor, fire some missiles, then bail out and steal one of their tanks doing much damage then exit the tank and kill a few enemies with your M16 and if your lucky find a hummer and make your escape to a fighter jet and live another day.
  9. DC Weapons Bunker, and that one I can't remember the exact name but the one that you can spawn from a big cargo boat. Oh and omaha beach.
  10. I do business with some guys in europe, belgium to be exact and they are hung on their mac laptops. It's seems more popular in europe I guess. I admit the mac OS is nice but its lacks good software compared to Windows. Since windows could be run on a Mac I would definetely consider one. I just wonder how it would compare to windows ran on a pc.

I see there are some problems with this tool?
  13. For any of you that have a Mac or was always interested in one but didn't like that your windows software and games would not work. This software emulates a pc in that you can install your Windows OS. You can buy it include with an windows os of your choice or buy it alone and use your existing Windows OS. Virtual PC for Mac 6.1 is for G3 and G4 processors and Virtual PC for Mac 7 is for the G5 http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.aspx?pid=virtualpc
  14. http://www.novell.com/community/linux/order_limited.php It's Free, with free shipping. Mine is being shipped.
  15. It's about on par with DC. Infantry was mostly useless there against air/vehicles except in the case of the stinger missile. I'm really surprised they didn't give any man-portable anti-air. It would be good to have a map like Inshallah Valley where the fighting is more contained. There were plenty of infantry situations in DC.
  16. LOL, I felt my reply was sufficient.
  17. Never had a cube system. ATX and Cube systems are different form factors. An ATX system consist of an ATX case, a ATX power supply and ATX motherboard. All the components are made to fit each other. Some reasons for changing to different form factors in one example is cooling. In the AT form factor the cpu was located in the lower right hand section of the motherboard. When the ATX form factor was developed the cpu was moved to the upper left hand corner near the power supply fan to help with cooling since new processors were coming out that need better cooling. The IDE connectors were moved for shorter distance to hard drives and cd-roms. One reason of change was due to changing I/O ports. The cube cases use a different motherboard and power supply than the ATX. My knowledge of the cube case is little due to the fact that I never cared for one personally. It seems the reasoning for this form factor was that it is a more low profile case and is great if you like modding. I would think that ATX case would be easier to cool when running off air. ATX components seem to be easier to obtain as well, but the cube systems are normally sold as barebone systems that usually include the power supply and the motherboard at least, and sometimes the processor, so it's fairly easy for a beginner to build one of these systems.
  18. It will run much better than your previous system. Too bad your ram is only PC2100. PC3200 will run much better due too the fact that you will have an 800mhz front side bus. Keep that in mind next time you upgrade. If the mobo has dual channel memory controllers make sure use two sticks of ram instead of one big module so that it will run dual channel instead of single channel which can make a big difference in P4 systems. Have fun with it and let us know how it does.
  19. You are probably talking about a service pack a different Microsoft product. For example Microsoft Office has service packs as well, which would be important for a programmer to know.
  20. The link to download SP2 says that the file is for network administrators. The file size is 266mb. When SP2 update is available from the automatic updates it will probably be around 100mb. The reason the file for network administrators is so large in size is because it includes not only WinXP but updates for other versions of Windows allowing network admins to install updates to all clients using various operating systems from the server in one step. It is ok to use it to install on your personal computer.
  21. To see which service pack is install, just right click on My Computer, then properties it will show you there.
  22. IMO if you don't want it, then don't download it. If your interested but scared then image your drive and restore if it don't work out. There is no way that even Microsoft can know how the updates will effect every software available. They have done what they can to supply a list of common software already that might not work right. Some software has been updated already due to SP2. If the software company doesn't exist or update a particular program anymore you know that it will eventually die in the future unless you keep an older computer around. It would probably be best to find a more modern alternative. Why play on the Atari when you can play on a PS2.
  23. The info on that thread was not really meant to solve problems but was meant to help increase your frames per second for ATI cards. The game does run better with nvidia cards and it does good with ATI cards too. It is just a way to increase performance. This tweak seems to work best on the X800 cards than earlier cards but should be noticably different on the 9800 series. This is not an official tweak from ATI nor the creators of Doom 3. I've read that ATI does promise better performance for Doom3 later on.
  24. http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14874 The thread in the link above might give a boost in performance for ATI users. Try it, then let me know then I'll try it, lol. This tweak will not do anything for Nvidia users, in fact might make things worse.

Here is a post on possibly increasing the performance of this game on ATI video cards. I haven't tested this yet. http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14874&highlight=
