Doom 3
I just started playing this game and so far I seem to find it exciting. I still have much more to play and see, but this game keeps the adrenaline pumping. Has anyone tried a multiplayer game. Somewhere earlier I heard a rumor that the servers would only allow 4 players, but I seen a 20 player server when looking at a list of servers. I haven't tried yet but normally this type of game I would not be interested in it for the multiplayer due to the fact that I normally like real life war combat. I like games such as Doom3 for the single player action.

Have $400. Inexpensive comp with an AGP slot.
That HP would be Ok if you were only doing simple task like surfing the web or typing a document. Celeron processors are horrible. Intel extreme graphics is horrible.

Dell only uses Intel processors. Amd's are better price per performance.

Finner's Comp
Your score is fine. To get a higher score you probably have to overclock the videocard but I wouldn't bother.I get about the same score withAMD64 3200+ @ 2250mhz1 gb ddr400radeon 9800 pro3dmark03 is mostly all about videocard performance. Cpu and ram have little much to do with it.

That wouldn't be any better than what he has now.

graphics card help
The bios has to support it and I doubt since its an Hp deal that it will allow you. What is the voltages reading in the bios. Sometimes software is buggy for certain motherboards when measuring voltages. I don't know much about this, but I remember hearing about some software that runs in windows to overclock your system instead from the bios. I wonder if that could possibly raise the voltage for you. I wonder if Mac knows anything about this. I also wonder if your power supply is doing its job, but most of the power supply voltages seem ok.

graphics card help
That cpu voltage is too low, possibly enough to cause instability. Were you able to correct this. Acording to Mac it normally should be about 1.525 vdc. Also this may be a bug in the software but why does the -5volts show 3.45volts. Just looking for possibilites.

PC error fixing program?
Yeah Norton is good, but he seemed to wanted something downloadable that I assumed needed to be free.

PC error fixing program?
Those are system files. One quick and dirty way to possibly fix this is to put your windows 98 cd in while in windows and start the setup file and reinstall windows on top of your existing install. It will not remove any of your files or applications. It will replace system files if damaged or missing.OrRun scandisk thengo to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information, then under the Tools menu there should be something similiar to System File Checker. It will scan for corrupted system files and replace them which you will need your Windows 98 Cd for.You shouldn't have any problems but its a good habit to backup your files before performing these kinds of operations.

PC error fixing program?
Are these system file errors, or application errors. What operating system do you have. WinXP, try maybe the Repair program on the XP disk. Run scandisk. IMO most third party so called error repair software sux. There is a error debugger that comes with WinXP call Dr. Watson that when ran in the background it will catch errors giving you an idea on what is causing problems.

-5v problem
Motherboard monitor is usually very reliable and should be close to being accurate, although I just found out that this handy tool will be discontinued, which sucks so future motherboards won't support this software. If you still get crazy readings and your handy with a multimeter then you should check the -5vcd on the 20pin power connector. It if not right then say goodbye to your power supply.

CPU & Mobo Upgrade
For gaming AMD processors are much better than Intel, also they are cheaper and you get the best price per performance. The FX5200 video cards are horrible, they are nothing better than paper weights, and I've seen many complaints from those. Some of the older Nvidia cards even run better than them. They were the worst card ever produced which is claimed by hundreds of people that I've seen on the net in forums. Go post a thread about those cards in Anandtech forums and you'll get many negative replies about those cards.

CPU & Mobo Upgrade
I would definitely reinstall windows when changing the motherboard. Sometimes it works fine depending on what your changing from and to, but reinstalled will make the OS much more stable.I just say get an AMD cpu & compatible mobo. How much are you willing to spend? You say you want a new mobo, cpu, & sound card. You will probably need different memory. What type, amount, and speed of your current memory. Do you need a video card. You might get some improvement, but that video card might hold you back. Give us specs on your power supply too so that we'll know if its ok to use with newer components that we suggest. The sound card probably will be the least that will help performance and you should concentrate on other components that would be more critical unless you real big on getting very high quality sound. Remember that when you change the mobo you will get different onboard sound that you just might find is ok.

My new case fan
Hey Mano, if it works for you and you're happy with then thats cool. Of course some people will always have their opinions which cool too, and expect these people to show you their opinion whether it is against or for the subject which you posted. After all you were asking what we thought. Get some pics up so we can see your mod.

My new case fan
I believe it, but expect very short cpu life with temps like those.

My new case fan
I got 6 of these on order. http://directron.com/a2016.html

My new case fan
Some chips run hotter than other. For example the P4 prescott chip runs very hot compared to the P4 northwood which is preferred due to those reason. Also mine runs @ 60C because I got mine overclocked really high. At stock mine wouldn't get over 40C.
-
My new case fan
an amd cpu won't shut down @ 60C which isn't harmful to the cpu. These cpu's can run @ 80C safely before burning up the chip. My athlon 64 runs @ 60C at 100% percent cpu usage but I'm not comfortable with it so I'm getting a better cooler.

PC case?
I personally like the thermaltake cases. I got one and those aren't made cheap. They are heavy duty and don't have thin plastic parts that break easy. It has 7 80mm case fans that come with it and a fan controller. My model has 6 internal hd bays that are installed sideways which makes it easy to get to cable and jumpers for the harddrives. It has lot of room too and mine has a clear window and a blue led lit Thermaltake logo on the front. The only thing I found negative about the one I got is the fans are weak in my opinion, only producing approx. 25cfm and are not blue led. Although they are weak IMO that were made to be silent. I have an order right now to replace with thermaltake blue led smart fans that can produce about 75cfm. The only other negative thing about it which I really don't care but this case weighs a ton even before adding components. My last case I could sling out with one hand. This one it take two hands and some muscle to carry it around.

New stuff for my comp
Newegg will not do for him as he lives in canada. Unless he can find a company in canada that could save him some money, Tigerdirect will probably be his best option as far as I know. When finding products for him he will be paying with canadian money which will be a different cost for him as it would for us is the US. So you must view the components on Tiger directs canadian site to get prices in canadian money.

New stuff for my comp
The motherboard you should get is the one Mac suggested. It has the Nforce 400 ultra chipset. If not overclocking get the one mac suggested although it would overclock too but what it does have is a 333mhz fsb. This will allow memory you run at PC2700(333mhz) speeds at stock. I would get PC3200 which would still run at 333mhz will but will allow higher speed if you ever upgrade the processor to one that has a 400mhz fsb. Do not get a duron. Those are AMDs low end cpu's kinda like the celeron is Intels. If you were wanting to overclock you could get a mobile 2400+ which can overclock very high, but you would need a very good cooler, heatsink. It would also allow you to overclock the memory to higher speeds. If not overlocking do not get the mobile as the 2500 barton will perform better at stock speeds.I would not waste money on high dollar memory and I would stick with value memory as there would be about 5% difference even when overclocking. For newer games you will need at least 512mb of ram. 256mb will not cut it. I usually recommend 1gb for these games, but with your budget 512mb will do.As far as your fx5200 video card goes, it will get you by. Some of the newer games it will run but will look bad. The fx5200 cards are probably one of the worst cards ever produced. Actually your video card might bottleneck your system.Just how much do you have to spend. Remember to get a Heatsink/fan rated for the cpu you buy as your existing one will not work. If you buy the oem version of the cpu it will not come with a fan. I would recommend buying the retail version if not overclocking as it will be more cost effective since they include the heatsink/fan.

G Card Question
Yes the performance can be different with manufacturer due to the fact that they choose what memory goes on the card. The gpu is the same on all the cards. You at descriptions of memory speeds and you'll see they will differ with some manufacturers. The 9600xt memory speed is 600mhz effective normally which is used on ATI's card. With other manufacturers some may be 600 as well, but some may be 550, 650, 680.
