Posted February 17, 201312 yr I have been learning how to colorize black & white photos for the past year or so, and would like your opinion about one of my pieces. In my most recent project, I chose a very nice pic of Ulysses S. Grant. Please check out the images and tell me what you think ...I have also included the B&W version for comparison.
February 17, 201312 yr I'm pretty good at finding flaws, and I can't find any. Awesome job Gator!
February 17, 201312 yr Great job. But very old photo are brown and white... Last black and white photos are with 256 grey levels = more easy to color it... Egidio.
February 18, 201312 yr Looks great Gator! One thing that seemed a little off to me is the eyes. It's always tough to paint eyes let alone try to color them from a grey shade to a sepia shade, but they seem just a little bit too bright. The b/w picture they are more shadowed and it's the shadows that highlight them. In sepia-tone, the eyes are much brighter in comparison to the rest of the facial shadows. My 2¢
February 19, 201312 yr I'm actually taking a photography class right now and my teacher is constantly telling us how our work need to look "natural". I can really tell both of these photos have been photoshoped. Maybe dumb down the editing? I dunno! Whatever you are going for! They both look great!
February 19, 201312 yr Author The picture came from wiki, but I did see it listed in the Library of Congress. The photo was in great shape to begin with, so all I did was color it. I did, however, pump up the eye whites a tad bit too much, but I do feel the eye color itself makes the photo "pop" I actually googled his eye color, and it was listed as brown. Even in the B&W photo, the eyes themselves are bright. Thanks for the honest review. I am working on a civil war photo now that is much more involved. Maybe I can get you to check it out when I finish it.
April 8, 201312 yr That's a mighty fine job Gator, as I look at it further I think his fly is open and he showing his little Winkie...mmmmm look at the hands. LMAO J/K
April 9, 201312 yr It looks very HD, almost as if we are looking at a movie poster of Ulysses S. Grant as if premiering in his new movie The Confederation shot in 48fps and 5120 x 2700. I'm not really diggin the background because it is so contrasting, but if I block it out with my fingers and just look at USG, he looks pretty darn lifelike and realistic and it appears to be a very good attempt at colorizing a photo of one of our Presidents.
