Black widows have that tell-tale hourglass on their rumpus. Brown recluses, the little buggers, are a little harder to distinguish...so I just kill 'em all if they're small enough to not go "splat" and make that squishy sound when I crunch 'em. In fact, come to think of it...... For a class of mine, we had to gather 60 different organisms, all with varying traits--dicot flowers, edible plants, etc.--and one of those was a spider (zero credit if it was venomous). Now, I've seen brown recluses before, and I know that they tend to be the size of a quarter or so. Naturally, to get a good grade, I was on the lookout for each and every different organism I could find. I digress...one day, I spotted this TINY spider--not even the size of a dime--and played with it for a little bit on a notebook. Come find out it was a brown recluse....but it didn't look like one. I was baffled...but we killed it 'cuz it was venomous. ANYWAY, this is where it gets interesting... The day after that, I'm in the garage--where we keep the food for muh doggie--and I walk over to this one corner--where the dog food is. All of a sudden, this HUMONGOUS spider--easily the size of two half-dollars put side by side--drops in front of me. I jump out of my skin about 3 feet backward and stare at the thing--it was a brown recluse, too!! Needless to say, I about-faced and said "I'm not getting full credit for this assignment." Anyway..if you read that, I commend you. It was kinda pointless, I'm just bored~
