  3. Look out San Diego! Battlefield Hardline’s coming for you! Later this month, we will be turning the lens to Battlefield Hardline’s single player story. At Comic-Con you’ll learn more about Visceral Games’ unique take on first person shooter storytelling, and you’ll meet the ensemble cast and Hollywood talent helping to bring that story to life in game. We’ll be there on Friday, July 25 from 2:30 to 3:30pm in room 5AB – be there! Titled Battlefield Hardline: A Visceral World of Crime and Revenge, the panel will feature Battlefield Hardline Executive Producer Steve Papoutsis and Creative Director Ian Milham, two of the leads on the Dead Space series, as they discuss how they are moving the Battlefield series in a bold new direction. The episodic nature of the single player game will be explored in a panel that will include the cast and crew from critically-acclaimed TV shows and films, such as Bill Johnson (Justified), Kelly Hu (Arrow), Eugene Byrd (Bones) and Benito Martinez (Sons of Anarchy). Explosive new footage of the singleplayer campaign will be on display, showcasing the game’s story about the war on crime in the gritty and glamorous streets of LA and Miami. http://blogscdn.battlefield.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/SDCCPanelblog.png For more information on Battlefield Hardline, visit http://battlefield.com/hardline The post Battlefield Hardline at San Diego Comic-Con appeared first on The Battlefield Blog. 4. /files/u154280/featured_image_0.png We mod Watch Dogs and compare its visuals against the vanilla stock version! While our Graphics Analysis feature normally compares a game's various graphical settings, with the recent surrounding the hidden "E3 2012" files that supposedly make the PC version of Watch Dogs look better without much of a performance hit, we thought we would dedicate this particular graphics analysis around comparing the "modded" version of Watch Dogs vs. it's vanilla stock incarnation. To do this, we’ve enabled The Worse Mod 0.7 and SweetFX to showcase what the game looks like with mods enabled. Below you'll find a smattering of comparison pictures and video. Which version do you prefer? Let us know in the comments. Watchdogs running in 1080p comparing the stock game against the modded version with SweetFX and The Worse Mod 0.7. Testing Methodology: We used The Worse Mod 0.7 and SweetFX to mod Watchdogs. We then captured our video in 1080p using Nvidia’s Shadow Play software suite. Click to find out how to enable SweetFX and The Worse Mod 0.7. We used a SweetFX mod made by Piterrrxd, but there are many other fan-made SweetFX mods, which are also good. We captured our screenshots and video with a modest gaming rig, sporting an Intel Core i7-4770K CPU, 8GB of 1600MHz G.Skill RAM, and a GTX 780 video card. The settings we used for each test are shown in the screenshots below: /files/u154280/vlcsnap-2014-06-22-18h09m51s150.png Note: We set Anti-Aliasing to FXAA, as many modders on forums say that this type of AA works best with a modded Watch Dogs game. /files/u154280/vlcsnap-2014-06-22-18h10m10s91.png Video Scene Analysis: Note: You can click on the images below to see an animated GIF comparing the scene running stock vs modded. /files/u154280/vlcsnap-2014-06-22-17h46m56s161_0.png Click on the image above to get an animated GIF comparison. Indoor apartment scene Our first scene features Aiden Pearce, the main character in Watchdogs, inside his rundown inner-city apartment. Here on the left side of the screen we have the stock version of the game. As you can see, it looks quite yellow and bright compared to the modded version on the right. The modded version, on the other hand, looks much more brown. In this scene, we also noticed the stock game has tons of light flooding the room, while the modded game features less lighting and more shadows to give the game a more realistic, brooding aesthetic. /files/u154280/vlcsnap-2014-06-22-17h48m13s182_0.png Click on the image above to get an animated GIF comparison. Parking lot scene In this parking lot outside Aiden’s apartment, we see the mod features more pronounced textures and shadows on the asphalt. The colors again look much more realistic when you compare the stock game to the modded version. The planter box in the modded version features bricks which are more noticeable and pronounced than its stock counterpart. /files/u154280/vlcsnap-2014-06-22-17h49m24s79_0.png Click on the image above to get an animated GIF comparison. Downtown street scene The stock game’s road in this scene looks a lot less gritty and realistic. We prefer the modded version of the game when roaming around the city, as the concrete and asphalt look more realistic compared to the comparitively bright and washed-out stock version of the game. /files/u154280/vlcsnap-2014-06-22-17h50m31s225_0.png Click on the image above to get an animated GIF comparison. Baseball stadium scene This was the only scene where we thought the modded version performed poorly. The stock version is brighter and that's a good thing in this case. The modded version dims the lamp lighting a little too much. In the modded version we only see Aiden’s silhouette, and it hides the textures on his nice, brown leather coat. /files/u154280/night_scene_watchdogs.png Click on the image above to get an animated GIF comparison. Night time scene In this scene we see Aiden Pearce outside of the baseball stadium. The light reflections of the billboard advertisement are more intense in the modded version of the game. The colors and textures look darker making it look later in the evening. We see again that the color accuracy is improved in the version of the game over its stock counterpart. Conclusion: After doing our graphical analysis, we have to say we prefer the modded version of Watch Dogs over stock. It's not perfect by any means, and tends to make dark areas too dark, but it makes the textures pop out more and gives the game a more realistic, gritty feel. Still, it is a matter of preference and we're not sure we'd declare one is definitively better than the other. Now perhaps the bigger question is, does the game run any worse with the tweaks? In our experience, performance with the mod ran on par with the stock version on our gaming rig. We'll tell you this much, the game runs like crap on Ultra settings, regardless of whether you've got the mod running or not. Regardless, which graphical setting do you prefer? Let us know in the comments below. View the full article

To get Battlefest started, we’re giving everyone a weekend of double XP from July 12-13, so if you need to level up your game, now is a good time to start or get back into the game. The 12th also marks the first day of our daily contest (called Battleshots), where we’re asking you to send us a screenshot in Battlefield 4 based on a different theme requirement. Each daily winning entry will receive an AMD graphics card, $50 gift card to the DICE Store, and a Battlefield 4 Premium membership on their platform of choice. We’re excited to see what you send in and will be altering the screenshot theme request daily until August 13 for more chances to win. Official announcement to come; official rules can be found here. Once we receive the submissions, the DICE team will pick the top 12 and then you, the fans, will vote on the top three winners to win a massive prize. Official announcement to come; official rules can be found here. And there it is, a month filled with fun activities and prizes to be given that we hope you’ll enjoy. But that’s not all, we have more surprises in store that we’re excited to share in the next couple weeks. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled. Happy Summer Gaming! * THIS OFFER IS BEING ISSUED TO YOU FOR PROMOTIONAL PURPOSES ONLY AND DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A CREDIT, CHARGE, DEBIT OR GIFT CARD. 16. It’s been about a week since the Battlefield Hardline beta has come to a close, and as Steve said last week we want to thank everyone who took part. Even though the beta was just a small taste of the complete package we plan to deliver with Hardline, the amount of feedback we got from players around the world has been incredible and will help ensure we make Hardline a better game when it launches this October. http://blogscdn.battlefield.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/BFHL_Blog-640x360.jpg That’s why we’re happy to introduce you to the CMW – the Community’s Most Wanted. This is where we will outline some of the fixes and improvements we are making to Battlefield Hardline based on feedback we received during the beta and what we’re hearing from you. Yes, we are listening! Below are just a few things from the beta that we’ve learned and the changes we’ve already put into the game we play every day here. 1. MOVEMENT: There was a lot of feedback about slow movement speed and feeling “sluggishâ€. We’ve increased player speed by 10%, and players will get a +10% bonus for running with your pistol out. It feels much faster now! 2. SUPPRESSION: There were a lot of negative comments about the camera “bounce†when suppressed. We’ve changed the way suppression works – your aimpoint is no longer affected, but your situational awareness is. 3. SURVIVALIST: We’ve heard both sides of the argument on the Survivalist gadget, it is pretty polarizing. Some of you hate it, some of you love it – either way, we agree it was overpowered. We’ve changed it to revive you at 1 health and auto-inject after 5 seconds. 4. HIGH TENSION – CRANE CAMERA SHAKE: A number of people called out the camera shake from this event as being too over the top. We’re tuning this down. 5. HIGH TENSION – STAIRS IN HIGH TENSION BUG: Stairs in High Tension should no longer pull players into the wall. 6. ELEVATED OBJECTIVES: We’ve added some feedback to help you find the objective when it’s above or below you. 7. SPECIAL VEHICLES: We’re working on adding more special drivable vehicles like the Fuel Truck into all maps. We’re also working on a handbrake for cars. 8. STUCK VEHICLES: We’re working on the ability to “nudge†vehicles with a melee attack to help get them unstuck or to be able to move past them. No promises, but the early prototype looks promising! 9. HEAVY VEHICLE DAMAGE: We’ve added “weak spots†in the rear of the heavily armored vehicles, making it much easier to bring them down! 10. VEHICLE OCCUPANT LIST: We’re working on adding the Bag Carrier icon to the list of teammates inside your vehicle, so that you can tell when the bag carrier gets in your vehicle. This dialogue doesn’t end with the beta. We plan on continuing this from now until launch – and beyond. So come back to the site to check in and see the latest CMW lists and to voice your opinion. We will be revealing a ton of new multiplayer details including new maps, new modes, gadgets and our single player campaign – we want to hear your feedback! 20. We released the Battlefield 4 Community Test Environment (CTE) in early May, and have since then made good progress on improving the game together with our fans. In this blog post, we wanted to share some of the things that we’ve been able to achieve thanks to you. We’ve tested tons of things in the CTE, ranging from general gameplay tweaks to bug fixes. Many hours have been spent by the team watching live streamed gameplay, analyzing telemetry data, and of course, interacting with the players on the forums. It’s been a tremendous help to the team and we thank all those participating. The CTE is open to all Battlefield 4 Premium members. If you still haven’t had a chance to test it out yet, then please visit the following link to sign up: http://cte.battlelog.com/bf4/ Improving Netcode Making improvements to the “Netcode†in Battlefield 4 has been a top priority for us. Some of the items we’ve been specifically looking at is how to decrease the feeling of getting killed when behind cover and getting killed without initially seeing a damage indicator. The improvements we did were released in June, and we’re looking at testing out additional fixes during the coming months. http://blogscdn.battlefield.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Locker-640.jpg Core Gameplay The core gameplay initiative has started, and in the first phase, we’re looking at making improvements and fixes related to the new Dragon’s Teeth expansion pack. One of the main items that we wanted to test was the all-new Ballistics Shield, and based on the feedback that we received we made the following changes that’ll make it for the release of Dragon’s Teeth: • Shield bash damage has been tweaked, it is no longer possible to one-hit kill enemies. The Ballistics shield now better matches with the initial design intent • Single tank AP-rounds now kill those carrying the Ballistics Shield, something that previously wasn’t possible. http://blogscdn.battlefield.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Battlefield-4-Dragons-Teeth-Ballistic-Shield_WM-640.png Rush Tweaks If you’re a fan of Rush, you’ll want to jump into the CTE and try out the new changes we’re currently testing on the Siege of Shanghai, Zavod 311 and Operation Locker to start. The main focus of these changes has been to increase the balance and flow of the Rush round. Often, this means making it easier for the attackers to tackle certain MCOMs. Some general tweaks have also been made, such as: • Commander has been removed by default in Rush • Radar sweep has been reduced around attackers base • Many per map specific changes, MCOM placement and cover passes. Apart from these bigger initiatives, here are some of the areas of improvements that we will be looking at in the future: • General Weapon tweaks/balance • Weapon Suppression tuning • 3P Head-flinch dampening • Visual recoil ADS tuning • Vehicle tuning/balance • Game modes: Rush, Continued tweaks to Obliteration Competitive and Conquest small • HUD improvements and bug fixes So, for those of you that have joined the CTE, thanks for the continued support in making Battlefield 4 even more fun! We look forward to seeing you soon on the battlefield. David Sirland Battlefield 4 Associate Producer The post Battlefield 4 Community Test Environment Update appeared first on The Battlefield Blog. 22. As the Battlefield Hardline closed beta comes to an end, we hand over to Steve Papoutsis, VP and GM of Visceral Games, thanking all beta players for their participation. http://blogscdn.battlefield.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/BFHL_Blog-640x360.jpg The Battlefield Hardline beta is now closed, we want to thank everyone who took part! Running a beta during E3 was definitely something that was hard to pull off, but we did it for two reasons. First, we want your feedback early. We’re listening to it, we’re acting on it and it’s going to help make Hardline a better game when we launch in October. Second, we’re gamers like you. It’s great to hear about games and see games, but we want to play games. And even though it is still early and we have a lot of work left to do, it was important to us that you could see and feel for yourself what we’re doing with Hardline. But this beta is only the beginning. . . In the months ahead we’ll be revealing more details about what we’re doing in multiplayer as well as what the team at Visceral is bringing to the singleplayer campaign. As many of you know from previous Visceral games, we have a unique way of telling our stories and engrossing players in our worlds, and Hardline will be no different. We are doing some cool new things in how we present the campaign, similar to what you see when watching episodes of your favorite TV shows. It’s something different and we’re fired up about it. Keep your eyes out for more on this next month. And, of course, there’s multiplayer, the staple of any Battlefield game. The Battlefield Hardline beta was just a small portion of what is in store. We have plenty of new modes in the game that really play off the cop and criminal theme, as well as the return of fan-favorites. The variety in maps is also something that Battlefield fans have never experienced before, from subterranean grow labs to the streets of Miami, complete with all the vibe and flavor that city has to offer. If you didn’t get a chance to play the Battlefield Hardline beta this time around don’t worry, we have your back as we’ll be launching another beta this fall on all announced platforms that will showcase more. Stay tuned to hear more later this year. We have a lot of cool things up our sleeve, but we also have a lot of hard work ahead of us. It’s an electric time all of us here at Visceral, and we’re pumped to tell you more about the game over the months ahead. Keep the feedback coming, we’re listening and we’ll be responding to it as much as we can.
