  12. As all of you may have noticed...the Forums are clean (no posts). I spent no less than 20 hours working with our web host trying to restore the forums back to their original state. I spent an additional 4 hours setting up the new forums you see now. The problem began Thursday sometime when people were unable to post messages on the forums. They kept getting a database error when they tried to post. I immediately responded and attempted to fix the problem. Well I fixed them, but the search function of the forums was totally destroyed. I felt the search function was important so I attempted to fix it. I totally reinstalled the forums program, and made a complete backup of all the files (posts and configurations) using the phpBB Backup?program that came phpBB Forums. I found out later there was another way I could have backed the forums database, but that's hindsight. The cause of the malfunction is unknown, but it may have had something to do with the upgraded I installed (newer version) about month ago. As I said, I backed the forums up using the program that came with phpBB, however the backup file I created was unable to restore the forums to their original state (missing database tables). This caused me much grief. I will ask the web company to reinstall the old forums sometime next week, but the old forums will be for show only, because I think it may crap out on us again sometime in the near future. When they do come back online, you will be able to transfer (cut and paste) some of your great posts to the new forums. I will leave the old forums up for a while, but I will shut them down after about a month or so. For now, I have the old forums working partially so you can go to your old Profiles and copy (cut & paste) the old information to set in your new Profile. When setting up your profile, be sure to set the time, as the default is set to GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). That way all the posts will reflect your local time. You may or may not have known about the time setting, so I thought I would mention that. If you signed up after December 2002, you profile will not show, but when you will find it once the database is installed again on the old forums. If you do not want to wait, please go ahead complete you Profile now. NOTE: ALL TA MEMBERS MUST REGISTER ON THE FORUMS. If you do not like the black (default) theme, I have also enabled many other themes you can chose from in your Profile? section as well. I personally like the subsilver my self. ๏ŠWhen the old forums come back on line, please do not post there, but rather cut and paste any of your articles of interest that you want to bring back. If the web company is going to charge me a great fee for the database tape restore, I will not do it. I have to wait and see what they say Monday (hopefully not).I am sorry this happened, but it was out of my control. At least I know how to properly back the forums up now, and I will make routine backs from this day forward every week (another job I have now), so as to prevent this from happening again.Again, I am sorry this happened, but we now have a clean and properly installed forum that should load fast in your browser. Sincerely,GatorClan LeaderFriendP.S. The old forums are located here: http://www.fa-thearmory.org/phpBB2/index.phpAlso, MacGyver is no longer the "Mac Daddy" of posters :mrgreen
