GO with an Unlocked Mobile AMD Processor. A 2500 Barton Mobile will do Fine.They all overclock reasonably well so if you get a 2200 512k or a 2400 512k or a 2500 512k it really does not matter.Just get the Mobiles.

It means your selection is GREAT and I would buy that myself.However I would look at getting a new motherboard and a Athlon 64 Chip. Since you have money to burn......Look at the MSI NEO Motherboard (Nforce3) and a Athlon64 3000.

Looks Great to me.No need to overclock when you can spend like that.Make sure you get the GT videocards. The regular 6800's only have 12 pipes open compared to 16 and slower memory for the most part. That does make a difference.OH NO> WAIT>I CANNOT RECOMMEND ANYTHING.Oh well. Now I do not have to look stuff up and can play instead.......

I am running My system as this on 1024 x 768 Ultra. That is NOT HIGH. THAT IS ULTRA. AA is on 2xQ System is as follows. Abit NF2 NF7-S at 220fsb Proc at 2500mhz. 512mb of PC3500 in Dual Chnl. MSI 128mb GF4 TI 4200 300 core and 600 mem. I get between 20 and 50 FPS which is perfectly playable and it looks killer in Just DX8. I have other systems running with CPU's at 1700mhz 200fsb 512mb ram and slightly overclocked GF4 TI4200's. They play 1024 x 768 at medium extremely well. I have some systems running CPU's at 1700mhz and running GF3 TI200's that are overclocked. They run 800x600 high quality very well. To show your FPS in DOOM3....... CTRL ALT ~ Keys depressed. Type in this ( com_showfps 1 ) and hit enter. Ripper. That is a good course of action. Wait till you can afford a better videocard. 9800's will be less expensive by then also. Just don't get a 9800SE. They are nerfed 9800's with only half the texture pipelines open. BTW Ripper. I have 4 of thos Mobo's in the basement. They are FAST, reliable, Inepensive, and a great bargain. Magey, Radioactive, and my Daughter all run them with overclocked Bartons. 2100mhz to 2200mhz. As for a heat sink as I believe your are talking about. The STCOK AMD heat sink if you get a retail CPU is a decent cooler. I would save the money and just use this one. I actually am using one on a system and overclcoking with it. If you are getting a OEM cpu w/o a heatsink then get one from these reviews....... I have been away on Vacation and Catching up with life.Sgossard lives in Exeter right now around 15 minutes away.Now he will be like 5mins away depending on Traffic.I would love for some other guys to play at my house on my boxes. (Not Sgoss I know you dont hack)That way the playing field will be even. Andros etc etc.......Maybe Killer Kitty Kat will come totally out of retirement and Own Sgossard.I remember the day She was Owning Fastkill911. He left the server when he found out she was a girl. Your memory is not compatable with either upgrade MOBO. You will have to buy it no matter what.AS far as the videocard. You are correct about the HL2 or Doom but it will still play them OK. However.......You MUST get new Memory, Mobo, CPU.......You do NOT have to get a videocard. The MX 440 WILL play games without extra cost. It will have good framerates. NOT HL2 or Doom3 but when you have the money, upgrade to a Better card.
