OK, I just spent just over 12 minutes listening to the two sound test demos available on the Insurgency HL2 mod web site. "Inbound raid" : HOLY CRAP! It's like an incredible audio movie, it's suspenseful, scary, it's almost like you can see yourself there, wherever there may be, fighting for your life, building to building with your comrades. If the game lives up to 1/100th the potential demonstrated by this audio test, it will be freaking amazing. "The storm" : Starts kind of lonely, then all hell breaks lose. Not quite as impressive as the first but still sounded like the game would provide some expansive and large scale battles. Positional audio was pretty amazing... OK, i have two speakers and since it's an MP3 it was probably just stereo. But it seems like they have a good handle on the bullet travel sounds. I don't know what's entailed in these audio tests. Not sure if the sounds are within the game engine or not, or if the bullets are really travelling in the graphics side of things, but I was thorougly impressed. It's also fun to attempt to reason with them. I've learned valuable lessons in the dozens of hours I spent on the FA forums during the helmet issue crisis, that I've applied to other areas of my life, including: 1) Despite a mostly hostile audience, retaining your composure and keeping a high level of intelligence in your writing will convince somebody to see it your way. You might not know who, but somebody will always go "hmmm...". I received a PM at one point by somebody who appreciated my discussions and "got it". It felt good. 2) Despite never stating your opinion one way or another, your group affiliation will almost always cause you to be pigeonholed. Lesson: If you care about what others think of you, don't join or stay in groups that stand for things you disagree with. I never once said I agreed with the TAC stance on the helmet issue. But because I wore the tag, everyone assumed... 3) Email and online correspondence is not well suited for complicated and fiercly debated issues. I learned this back then, but I tend to forget about it sometimes, just because I like to read my own words I guess. LOL. 4) Some issues will try to consume all fibers of your being, all hours of your day, and every drop of your motivation. Don't let them, or stay as far away from them as possible. 5) Choose your battles.

I don't think the other versions of multiplayer suck, Statie. 8v8 VIP mode and the bomb one are pretty fun.

If your web page doesn't work, you switch the browser? Where's the logic in that? You don't have control over your users' browsers so you should design to account for the differences in each browser?

You're not blowing anything out of proportion. The mod is run by a bunch of snot-nosed kids, and deserves the fate that it will have shortly.

This video is just a snippet of the team play that we're hoping to bring to Battlefield 2 (if it'll take), and that we've enjoyed with Joint Ops. It makes us quite unstoppable, and winning is so much more fun than losing. :o

FYI : I know there are a few folks around here in Indiana. I'm in Indianapolis, and I'm planning to put together a LAN party in mid-May. It will probably be between 10 and 15 people total. We can also shack up 3 or 4 who would need to spend the night, if anybody wanted to come from elsewhere. PM me if you'd like more info.

If you're trying to host a public game server at home, forget about it. Unless you have an outrageous amount of bandwidth, you will not be able to support more than about 6-8 players. Most cable/DSL providers don't offer more than 384KB upload bandwidth, which isn't a lot. Our game server has a 100MB connection, or roughly 250 times the bandwidth of a typical home connection. Not to mention the fact that you would probably want a dedicated computer to host it. Ours is a 2.8GHz P4 with 1GB RAM tweaked to prioritize the game server processes. In short, there's no way around it. Game servers are expensive.

It's based on player count... I haven't checked prices in a while but for other games I've seen between $5 and $10 per player per month. Less money if it's password-protected.
