  1. Perhaps people should look up the definition of camping before saying if it is, or isn't, campin g:P Audio pronunciation of "Camping" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (kmp) A place where tents, huts, or other temporary shelters are set up, as by soldiers, nomads, or travelers. A cabin or shelter or group of such buildings: gathered branches and grasses for a makeshift camp; had a fishing camp in Vermont. The people using such shelters: a howl that awakened the whole camp. A place in the country that offers simple group accommodations and organized recreation or instruction, as for vacationing children: a girls' summer camp; a tennis camp. Sports. A place where athletes engage in intensive training, especially preseason training. The people attending the programs at such a place. Military service; army life. A group of people who think alike or share a cause; side: The council members disagreed, falling into liberal and conservative camps. To live in or as if in a camp; settle. FA is "army life", each team is "A group of people who share a cause", and when you're there, prone, you're acting like you're settling
  2. Someones view on this video from another forum i visit:
  3. I thought the 5200's were the equivalent to GF2, or some such nonsense like that. BTW: Cheap-end geforce cards always, always are horribly bad, because the old series that isn't as cheap can outperform them; everytime i've seen.
  4. No YOU grow up. You are the one crying and whining like a kid. I'd really like to know how you got into this clan with an attitude like that. My best friends mother runs a day-care center. She babysits 3-4 year olds, and one 5 year old i believe. Whenever i hear them fight, all i hear is "No YOU <whatever they were arguing about>". We aren't crying, we aren't whining. We're discussing various things about how patriotic the movie was attempting to be, and how much it failed horribly. It's a propaganda film. Pure and simple. And why should we just "drop it" when you're the one sitting here, telling us "how much of a life we don't have", because we're posting about a movie that you started posting, and that you had to go out and find, and post here. Once again, since you didn't read it last time... Hello pot? This is kettle. Guess what? You're black! Psst, by the way: the younger the intellect behind posts, the the more likely they're to go "no YOU grow up" or "Go get a life" or other such meaningless insults. This is the internet. Go out, use your mind, and use some decent non-cursing insults you yellow-bellied pig-dog who enjoys rolling around in McDonalds grease pits!

WON, too, had it's problems. 90% of people who used WON also had problems - But everyone just decides to forget about them because, well, STEAM bashing is just the thing to do now. It's newer, bigger, better technology. With newer, bigger, and better technology, also comes newer, biggerd, harder-to-control bugs. It's expected with any update. I believe STEAM also eliminated a large ammount of the hackers - Not all of them, but alot of them. Very good thing, anytime. I think if VALVe did some minor tweaking to Steam - Like, making it a 3rd party program, that wasn't required to be in use, but you could only get updates from using STEAM (and servers would be auto-updating via steam, too..) STEAM would be a much better program. I have very few/no problems with steam after the initial install procedure; and since then...it's been a pretty smooth ride. ALOT more stable than WON was; higher FTP, lower pings; and alot better server-side secuirty. As a server administrator, i don't see how STEAM is such a bad thing.
  6. You're on a gaming forum, at 10:20 PM at night (prime "being away from the computer" time) - Telling people who are there reading your posts and discussing it, that we have no life? Despite the fact you're reading the same posts, and replying to the same posts, but it's we who have no life? Hello pot? This is kettle. Guess what.. You're more annoying with your lack of grammar than most people are, because most people actually attempt, even if they're not perfect. No one here can't "grow up and deal with it"; and we're attempting to discuss the problems we do have - while being told that we need to "grow up and deal with it" - which is, once again, EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO.
  7. ANTZ got pwned. 'Nuff said heres an idea, how about we have a naturalized citizen be the judge of point, sockies cheating and leaning on the left. =O And someone leaning on the far right would be sooo much more fair!

I was told that 2 120MM fans usually do a better job cooling than 4 or 6 80MM fans; and are considerably quieter. Anyone have any idea if this is true?
  9. <TAC> Doesn't, and it's in your CoC. Perhaps your admins forgot about this little rule taken from the Caln Rules (you guys might wanna spell that correctly ) Where number 5 clearly states: Me? You're saying I need to grow up? I'm stating my ideas in nice, neat sentences. I'm not telling you your ideas or your thoughts are crap; I'm not telling you anything about this video other than my opinion. If you don't like it, you don't have to read it. I'm following all of the rules boards AFAIK; and i'm not attempting to start a political debate. I'm stating my opinion on a politically based video - One which, imo, is a (poor mind you) attempt at propaganda. It's aimless propaganda, but propaganda none-the-less. Which one of us is shoving their opinion down the others throat; and which one isn't? Thank you for defending me, even though it wasn't needed

It wouldn't matter either way - If you had emailed me i'd have told you the same thing
  11. Stupid people like you are the reason fireworks are banned in my state.
  12. No offense, but i doubt anyone is going to forget 9/11 anytime soon. In all honesty, my friends; my relatives, some of my co-workers, my family, are all in Iraq because of 9/11. No, not because Iraq helped out Al Queda in any way, shape, or form, but because if They hadn't attacked us, we wouldn't have gone after Sadaam, where bush was claiming references to Sadaam and the 9/11 attacks. I don't need a video to tell me what to remember; what to forget. Nor does any other american. If you keep exposing it, you'll get de-sentisied to it and it'll no longer have any feelings to you.
  13. Woo, yay for racism!

This was the post coming from the CMF forums, about WON dying later this summer (i believe). Here it is, because it was a damned good post, and represents my feelings about STEAM/Won pretty much to the penny. That it was. WON was a piece of work I'll tell you that. The netcode that it had was incredibly simplistic and nothing short of almost pure genius. The system was fast, responsive and stable but none the less, simple. WON was becoming outdated even if we didn't see it. It was built for a world where 56k dominated the ISP market. The netcode was aggressive at best when it came to bandwidth and network routing. This hindered WON severely when it came to bigger pipes and much more open connections. You'd see people with a 190 ping when they should, in reality, ping at 50-100 at least! With bigger pipes also came WON's inability to handle large and multiple data packets at once. A server trying to keep WON updated and still handle clients would many a time have to wait instead of it being the other way around. This would cause loss, which was a generally accepted thing back then, but with the bigger pipes came bigger expectations and due to WON's simplicity, WON could never deliver no matter how many patches Valve added. Both the server and the netcode of everything that interfaced with WON had to be compatible and due to WON's inherent netcode restrictions, caused the players to suffer with optimized, but utlimately outdated code. Indeed problems like those did exist. Valve never expected HL to take off like it did nor did they anticipate the cleverness of modern crackers so like most software developer horror stories go, Valve was left out of the loop for the longest of times and is sadly, still playing catch up. The DoS(Denial of Service attack. All this does is boot your ass from WON.) attack issue was fixed as were the deals with sending unwanted files on the client to client deal, but the server side of those issues were never fixed, they couldn't be. This stems back to compatibility with WON and HL, simple systems are more often than not, less secure. In theory a server admin could download files to a client's computer that contained viruses, but that was rare in itself and also required an admin to hand do it or write a complicated script to do it for them. Taking a server's rcon password was also fixed. In this case we see the traditional trade off paradox, do we give up performance for security or security for performance? Just a quick note on this one. The fact that any updates to client code restricted you from playing on updated servers was normally a big hint that it's update time. Also in my experience and serious bugs in WON were always server side, thus there was never a need to make many updates available to the client. Steam on the other hand is still in development and requires constant client updates as time goes on, thus the amount of updates you download, in this case, can be good and bad. Steam in it self may be responsible for some minimal FPS loss but the fact that the HL engine is still there, untouched I might add makes this seem a bit farfetched. Steam was all network and management code, no engine work was done. Now for the Steam part... Steam was a huge huge huge network revamp of all of HL's netcode. It was designed from the start to be scalable and powerful, and that's what it is. The Steam network allows for a higher level of security, faster access, and a whole new authorization subsystem that rivals Microsoft's .Net framework IMO. The netcode behind Steam is more than just good, it's fucking incredible. Ping rates were restored, bandwidth was used right, the network is no longer so open as WON was, the protocol is quite efficient and there's still room for improvement! Holy shit! Steam was a step in the right direction for prolonging the stay of HL in the multi player market as well, turning a once secluded network, designed only for game play, in to one hell of a community. But...just like WON, as the paradox often goes, security over performance or performance over security? Steam chose security. The client... Steam client sucks the balls of off Microsoft, and that's pretty bad in my books. It was unstable, buggy and overall a premature release. This wouldn't of happened but once word got out, though, that Valve was designing Steam, the wonderful Internet community took to pressuring Valve every waking moment to finish it. This in turn brought out the product with out any serious revision and testing. People were crashing left and right! This little bit is not uncommon on the internet and was expected by many people... Steam's master flaw though stems from the fact that Valve pulled a Microsoft. Modify existing code to new technology. This hit them hard when the program left their clean, safe testing environments. The Steam master servers couldn't keep up with the corrupted data packets and the almost overwhelming flood of other shit from the poorly designed clients so in nutshell, they barfed. Every week at least. Given time though Valve worked out major issues and the network became more stable as time went on. Steam's game management system is a rework of the HL GUI systems and is nothing short of a pain in the ass for old HL'ers like myself, but to new players, it's a refreshing way to play a rather ubiquitous game online. It's meant to be simple yet usable and it is just that, nothing more. By making something simple though you loose power in some way, leaving things to be wanted most of the time. Alas, though, in a market worldm the needs and wants of the few are always outweighed by the paying many who have yet to come in and play. The keyword with Steam was compatibility, still is. HL2 will integrate, hopefully, seamlessly in to Steam. This could mean that Valve intends to release other Steam compatible games as well but that's another thing entirely... I'm not saying the don't have a long way to go but any way you look at it, it's still the right way to go. Given time Steam will surpass WON in almost every way Posted by Zinic, on the CMF forums....
  15. Hrm, I like steam. I don't have problems with steam. WON's going to be gone soon. Yaay.
  16. Somehow, someway, i think i'm going to get flamed for my opinion on this video tribute. Or, at the very least, called "unpatratic" or other such things. I think this video wasn't designed very well. I think it's an attempt to be a propoganda film - and nothing more. In the beginning, it says that it's to show for the people that have died for America; or something like that. They would've done a better job IMO if they went back and did video clips from ww2; korean war, 'nam, Iraq war 1; iraq war 2 rather than just iraq war 2. And showing how "awesome" our troops are, and the fact we're willing to keep fighting by throwing bombs down...another thing that's wrong with the film. Would've done a better job if they showed US soldiers helping children, helping out with utilities; that kinda thing. But that's just IMO.

Sorry about that Mac - Jeffy just stepped down from FAL; I have no idea who has emailed Jeffy what, and what his reply has been. None of us do.
  18. The fact i say they're protecting an expensive idea? They are. They could show honor & integrity in much easier ways than they're doing it right now. And, in todays world where everyone is bitching about having to pay too many taxes for this, not getting enough for that, the money isn't there for the budget....Every little cent counts. You're assuming i'm saying 'get ride of the idea!' while i'm not. I'm saying 'change the idea to X, because X represents the same thing as this, only considerably less expensive, while maintaining the same ammount of honor and integrity'. But, hey, if you'd like to just mis my conclusions and statements, go right ahead *shrug* doesn't bother me.
  19. Err, Correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe the pepsi commerical states that you get 4 million dollars a year, for 50 years, then get the rest of the cash then; in one giant big sum. So, err, you won't have a billion dollars. What would I do with my four million? Save it. Why? Because just about everyone who wins the lottery, or one of these, goes into bankruptness due to wild & outrageous spending of the money.

Fab: FAL has worked out an arangement with TA just fine. They email us; we email them. It's all gravy, baby
  21. So not enforceable at all? Yet, i am informed. And my family members (several who are apart of the 525 people with the badge) agree with me. Hell, one of the guards is in my boyscout troop. He served on Former President Reagans burial service. i know these informations. This website, which i believe is the offical one, appears to contain no wronged information. Where did i say anything bad or wrong about the US military? I think it's great for people who can't afford college from the get-go; provides a great place for advacement. My father served in the military, as did all his brothers and all his sisters. Both of my grandfathers served in WW2; as did both of my grandmothers. I know the importance of military. Please do not attempt to tell me that i'm bad mouthing the military - i'm not. My intention hasn't been to be harmful, or hurtful. It wasn't meant to be kind, either. It wasn't even what i thought of at first - I believe some admin came along and edited my first post. But, hey; i could be wrong & it could just be the forums. The people that protect the tomb of the unknown soldier don't really protect much. They protect an idea - an idea that can be alot easier protected in other ways, and forms; as well as considerably cheaper. In my opinion, they're just protecting three coffins of three people no one knows. Heh, ok, if you say so. I'd say something here that would prove my disagreement with you, but i wouldn't want to be called mean again
  22. *shrug* If everyone else is going to take blind spam-mail as the full & complete truth, I might as well research it.
  23. Alright, indeed i shall. Hold on fast folks, the truth's about to be known! My bullcrap detector is going CRAAAAZY here! Lets find out if it's the truth, shall we? Oh, it's not! According to Society of the Honor Guard Tomb of the Unknown Soldier it's, and i quote, BS indicator number two: Proof: Number three: Acutally: See above for information about it's truthfulness or not.
  24. Out of curiosity, how the hell would a server admin be able to check out someone for cheats using this? :\
  25. Some of this email is bullcrap. Pure, and simple, bullcrap. However, the part about soldiers not leaving their posts is true. And traditionally, only the Old Guard patrols the Tomb of the unknown Soldier, however, other branches can do it.
