Another new record might just be how many threads have been made about your new system. That being said, not a bad install time at all.
  2. Welcome to the forums, and greets from Wichita. Nice to see someone else from Kansas. ><;
  3. For the suggested name change, I actually did mean "ARMORY 20(5)min Hardcore TDM". I'm not quite sure why I didn't type it that way. Anyway, when Zieg and I joined the TDM server tonight, we had two pubbies join shortly after. One joined, played a few rounds; the other joined and stayed and... might still be in there. My ping went bonkers and isn't allowing me to play right now. I've got a feeling the demand is there, we just need to "build it, and they will come."

Don't worry too much, Mencar. It didn't bother me. Read news articles and things like that and walls of text seem that much more normal to you. That being said, I do appreciate reading the insight, so thanks for posting your thoughts.
  5. Yes. Today, however, TAC guys only came on while the Mixed server was down. I imagine that's simply because they wanted to play with TAC guys (or on TAC servers) and not 'cause they wanted TDM. It's too early to say for sure. Underspy is the only person I know of thus far that has wanted to get the TDM server going. Underspy, myself, and Zieg have been major proponents here for it. They're not just my ideas. Everyone last night agreed that most of these changes were necessary if the server was to be fun, and to be successful. If you enjoy the gameplay (but just aren't good at it), hit me up on XFire and we'll talk. I can give you some tips and bring you along on our (me and my buddies') weekend operations.___________________________________ Also -- to add on to the suggestions, and to respond to Shotty's "full map cycle" statement: these maps have been proven to be detrimental to server health as a result of bad spawns regardless of game type and are not suggested for servers larger than 18 players. That is why I suggested those two maps be removed. FF should remain off, by the way. It's just more fun and easier that way, because TDM has NO 'tactical' value.
  6. I've had THIS server 2 days thus far, but as someone who plays TDM almost exclusively since the game came out, I've been around plenty of Hardcore TDM players and am -- for lack of a better word -- privy to their mindset and desires. The changes listed above are ones DESPERATELY NEEDED. They're not a, "Oh, we'll give it time to see if players come", we need them NOW (in particular the elongation of matches). Players are really turned off to little 5-10 minute matches. There's a 30 player 30 minute TDM server that is almost always full around the clock. That says something. As I said at the bottom of the OP, there have been pubbies coming in all day. How many pubbies can you think of seeing in the Hardcore Mixed server? I count maybe 1-2 in the time I've played there. We had at least 5 pubbies in the first 10 minutes of play today alone on the Hardcore TDM server. The Hardcore Mixed server caters more to the [majority of] clan members' tastes, but it seems to me like the TDM server attracts more public attention. I stand by my opinion on the objective-based gametypes too -- they're all TDM, simply funneling action and giving you something else to do instead of kill exclusively. As far as the messages go -- They're not necessary, just nice to remind people that we try to keep it fair and to remind them to be nice or be gone. With a server that has a population above 16, I don't hear people whining about camping. There is sufficient movement. In the 30 player server I talked about above, I have never seen camping... ever. People all move around way too much to camp. The people of the Armory are the only people I know of that have thus far complained about TDM being camp-y. I don't see the issue as being widespread. As far as the spectate thing then, just leave it on then. Bottom line: Changes needed on the TDM server.
  7. Through playtesting and general pub-player consensus, I present to you the following suggestions for changes needed to the Hardcore TDM server. Name change: ARMORY 20min (or 25min) Hardcore Team Deathmatch Game type: Hardcore Team Deathmatch - 20 or 25 minutes, no score limit. Map rotation: All, except Shipment and Wet Works. Killcam: On. Spectate: Off (If I recall, this lets you free-fly around while you're dead). Respawn time: default 10 seconds. If possible, we could also add a console message every few (5 or so) minutes that says something like of the following (meaning one every 5 or so minutes) -- We promote fair play, so please keep teams even and try not to spawn attack. Be nice or be gone. Drop by our forums at thearmory.cc ____________________________________ Through just a few minutes of play today, I've seen more public players than I've ever seen on the Hardcore Mixed server. This, to me, speaks volumes. Anyway, please take these into consideration. They're desperately needed.
  8. ...Mohammed is a common name. Even I -- here in America -- know an Arab kid named Mohammed. You can't possibly tell me that there are no children in Sudan with the name Mohammed. It's a COMMON NAME and in NO WAY was meant to reflect on Islam's prophet.
  9. Excerpt from Time.com: It probably seemed like the most innocent of ideas to the newly arrived teacher from England, still settling into life in the Sudanese capital Khartoum. She asked her class of six and seven-year-olds to dress up and name a teddy bear, and keep a diary of his outings. She hoped it would provide material for projects for the rest of the year. And it might have, except for the name the children chose for their bear: Muhammad. Now Gillian Gibbons, 54, is spending her second night in a Sudanese prison, accused of insulting Islam's Prophet. She faces a public lashing or up to six months in prison if found guilty on charges of blasphemy. And Unity High School — one of a number of exclusive British-run schools in the Sudanese capital — has been closed as staff fear reprisals from Islamic extremists. Robert Boulos, the school's director, said the incident had been blown out of all proportion, but added that the school would remain closed until January to let ill feelings blow over. Read more: here Excerpt from CNN.com: KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) -- A British teacher has been arrested in Sudan for allegedly insulting Islam by naming a teddy bear Mohammed, taken as a reference to Islam's prophet and founder, the Sudan Media Center says. The teacher, who wrote the name on the bear, was being interrogated Monday, the semiofficial center said. She was arrested Sunday after the Ministry of Education filed a complaint, acting on behalf of a parent of one of her students. Read more: here Can you believe this?!
  10. A nice score indeed! But not yet enough to challenge my 125/40. >=] Grats on an awesome score and a 2,5 KDR. That's pretty tough to do.
  11. Holy crap. Ho. Ly. Crap. This is ludicrous. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm flabbergasted, honestly. I can't even think of words to use here. ...At least the charges were dropped. -.-
  12. -Sigh.- We've already covered this, Hutch. Future Weapons is not a valid source of information. As in the Future Weapons video of Dragonskin, we see the entire front of the armour being ripped off from the grenade and they treat it like it's something fantastic. That's a fail. Apparently not for them. They don't care if their soldiers are running around sans armour, I guess. Furthermore, if it's the HK 416 video I'm thinking about, the dust cover was closed when they submerged it. EDIT: Yup. Watched the Future Weapons clip again -- dust cover closed when placed in sand, and the water is only deep enough to reach the magazine, not "fully submerging" and "seeping into every orifice" as they claim.

I totally came into this thread expecting some super-deep existential discussion.

You will get boats to go from the carrier to your LZ, but nothing past that, IIRC. Add-on/Edit// - There are AA guns. There are stinger missles, and there are the guns on the Essex.
  15. Chops. The word you're looking for is chops.
  16. I'm more for sporadic TDM. Not too much of it, because the majority of the community seems to like objective-based combat (and I'm with them to an extent). My only argument is that objectives in COD4 seem to funnel the action, whereas TDM spreads it around the map and keeps it "circular". What I mean by this is: You spawn where the enemy is not. So say the bad guys are north and you're south. You're going to spawn south until the enemy pushes south. Then you spawn north. If the enemy goes southeast, you spawn northwest. It really just keeps things fresh, IMHO, whereas objectives just say, "the action must be here, here, and here." tl;dr: I'm for it, but don't put too many on there. Also, no FFA. That's just... way too chaotic for my tastes. ><
  17. In Ventrilo, it seemed like I was the only one that cared for TDM. The only thing anyone did while it was on was complain. Majority rules, I guess. -.-
  18. Thread needs a poll, IMO. Maps I like on any modes other than FFA -- Everything but Bloc, Countdown, Vacant, Showdown, Shipment, and Water Works.
  19. I'm satisfied. Looks like a nice setup. (Another thing to be wary of is the S&D mode in there; with all those other respawn modes, no-respawn modes might hurt server population. It'll require playtesting.) See you in-game!
  20. Bloc/Countdown/Shipment/Showdown/Vacant/Wet Work aren't particularly bad maps, or server killers, they're just... frustrating. I'm just not a fan of domination (because it's just "run around, cap, run around, cap..."). HQ and/or TDM, to me, is a little more dynamic, and much more fun. I've been playing on a 24/7 30min Hardcore TDM server and just can't get enough. It's a real blast (with the exception of crappy spawns -.-). Anyway, up to you guys, I was just saying what maps I have -- through gameplay testing -- discovered are really frustrating on servers larger than 10 people.
  21. Needs more TDM and less DOM, TBH. Vacant, Showdown, Bloc, Water Works (cargoship) -- these are all very close maps with lots of lame tactics. Lots of spawn killing. Just something to consider.
  22. What a great program this is! I'll be sure to write.
  23. As said in another thread, by myself, with a slight edit -- Futureweapons does not speak for military testing. Yes, Dragon Skin is nice in its own conditions, but out in Iraq and Afghanistan (military standards), the glue that held the pieces together melted. It failed -- miserably, I'll have you know -- time and time again. I won't even address the fact that after some tests, the very FIRST shot went through COMPLETELY with a 7.62 round. Total penetration. That's a pretty large problem. http://www.militarytimes.com/static/...00121may07.pdf Take a look at that. I think that settles the debate. If you still need more, this pretty much clears up everything you could possibly care to know... http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/...ad.php?t=14523 Let me stress: Dragon Skin's problem isn't stopping rounds. It's great at that, in SOME CONDITIONS. Its problem lies in standing up to the extreme conditions of today's combat, and environmental conditions. It isn't some conspiracy to give our soldiers armour that won't save them, by the way. We're giving them the best that they can get right now.
  24. Loving it, Nadril. Though the size isn't my wallpaper resolution, it still fits great. Thanks! I've been needing a new wall. ^^
  25. I'm not prone to motion sickness, but for whatever reason, COD4 gives me a headache when I play for a few hours. It goes away shortly after I quit game.
