No, definitely use really basic fonts. Not necessarily Arial (I find Arial to be too thin and sleek), but try to keep it generic most of the time -- like, here, I'll use myself as an example... The sig you see at the bottom of my post uses a font called "Anderson Supercar". Arial and every other font that I would normally have just didn't fit the sig. Anderson Supercar fit this particular situation perfectly, whereas Arial was too thin or smooth and Times New Roman was too formal in appearance and too tall, for example. The two fonts I use most are Anderson Supercar and Visitor; if you ask me, those are the only fonts you'll need up to a "moderate" skill level. Disclaimer: Different techniques will require different approaches, so more abstract texts are still appropriate in certain cases.

    You heard correct.
  3. And in other news, Bungie and Microsoft have ceased being partners.

Some pieces of land stick out a bit much. They're too clear, and don't appear to have any height advantage over any of the other, less visible pieces of land. That being said, I think it looks excellent.
  5. HAHA. Same thing with FEAR and especially games like Silent Hill, man. Silent Hill, by the way, is the best game ever -- 1-3 are amazing. 4 was creepy as long as you were in the apartment. Just watch some funny videos on Youtube or something and it'll take your mind off it. :klinked:
  6. Welcome to the forums. Be sure to stick around and post! =)
  7. You're more likely to get chomped by a shark than this anyway. ;]
  8. -Sigh.- Like I said, this is the general public's response to articles like these. Naegleria has been around for a long while, and just because it wasn't in the news doesn't mean people weren't dying from it in that time. It's just like West Nile virus. Do you think it goes away when it's not being reported on? No, it doesn't. Elsewhere in the world -- perhaps even in America -- someone probably has West Nile virus. It's just an increased number of deaths which brings with it awareness. Not every lake is infected. As I said in my original post, I believe pigeons carry the Naegleria and the infected pigeon has to transfer it to the lake through its faeces. Let's think about this for a moment. 1.) Pigeon must be infected. Not every pigeon is infected, IIRC. 2.) Pigeon must poop in lake (or any water). 3.) Lake (or any water) must be suitable for Naegleria to live. Your swimming pool, for example, might be pleasant to Naegleria. 4.) Lake (or pool) must be the one you're swimming in. 5.) The water that enters your nostrils must have the Naegleria in it. 6.) Naegleria must enter your nostrils; not just into your nostrils, but WAYYY up there. Enough to latch onto your olfactory nerve. Here's a picture of just where your olfactory bulb is. http://www.med.yale.edu/caim/cnerves/cn1/cn1_graphics/cn1_anatomy.jpg What, do you think, are the chances of all those being true are? Slim. VERY slim. So slim that, if I recall, only about 300 cases of this have ever been reported. I've already had people talking to me about this, panicked. It's a shame. It's been around since the 1960s! Have you been in any lakes in the last 40 years? Chances are, you've been exposed to Naegleria. Know the threat and act accordingly. Just because there's been a minor outbreak recently of people being rambunctious in a lake wherein Naegleria resided doesn't mean you should stop doing something you enjoy.
  9. It's the principle of the matter. It's no longer about a sig being made or not, it's about the correctness of the resolution. It was my understanding that the sig size was increased to 450x120, and by that rule, the sig is not too big. All I'm saying is that the call on the sig being too large is false and needs to be re-examined. ;] I can't find the thread that it said that, though.
  10. You've done better, but these are pretty cool. As Taco said, the sprite sig is definitely a breath of fresh air for that 'genre'.
  11. I thought sig size was increased to 450x120? O.o
  12. Heh, what they don't tell you is that, if I recall, this is only because some pigeons took a crap in these lakes, and the pigeon faeces carry the Naegleria. Now people who read this are going to think, "omg every laek is infected!1!!" As the article does state, even if it did go up your nostril, it would have to be WAY up there. It's nothing to really worry about. It's been around for a while, but is just getting attention again. I remember freaking out about this same amoeba when I was a wee lad.

The trailer(s) they've been showing on TV don't really show much... so I've been conflicted. I'm like, "Is this something I want to see? It kind of looks like it in this trailer." Then in the next trailer, I'm like, "Um... yeah, nevermind. Maybe it isn't." So yeah, if you can give me a 1-10 too, I'd appreciate it. 'cause I'm already on the fence, and I'd prefer to put my feet on the ground in one direction or the other.
  14. HAHAHA. Epic win.
  15. The testers are saying that most major problems are fixed in the 1.2, alongside new content. I guess we'll just have to wait'n'see.

OH GOD. IS THIS THE NEW ENGINE?!?!?? Flip, I'll be playing today for sure. I LOVE -- LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE -- America's Army. EDIT... Joe, you jerk. This isn't new at all. You had me so excited! I've had 2.8.1 for months. Anyway, be sure to pick up 2.8.2. It's worth it.
  18. Hey buddy, welcome to the forums and servers, and thanks for the introduction! I always enjoy these threads 'cause it makes me feel like I know the person a little bit better. ^^
  19. I don't know about that. Halo 2 only sold, I think, around $125 million worth on its first release day; so to effectively double their sales this year... I don't know. I think maybe that's aiming a wee bit high. They (and I too) expect $200 million sold either today alone or by Friday.
  20. I see, Weihe, that you've fixed it up. Lemme just say that it looks excellent. =)
  21. Vd_RuFQ6RkQ Goodness, look at the size of the hole! D:
  22. Do you get what I mean though, about the opacity? I feel as though I wasn't being clear.
  23. I spent a bit of time thinking about what you could do to Euphoria - Your flow is spot-on, first of all. I don't think I've ever seen a signature where the C4D better matches it. It's perfect. There only thing I see here is the opacity problem, particularly around the 10 o'clock to 3 o'clock regions of the sig. It just is kind of... what's the word? Sloppy? I think a bit of erasing and perhaps blending would be perfect here. Maybe a sort of gradient, where the lower-left part of the C4D is 100% visible, and progressively, going up and to the right, becomes transparent. Then erase as necessary? I don't know. I do feel the lower-left should remain most visible.... MORE visible, even. That might not make any sense. As far as the colours go, keep them how they are. The text is also fine where it is right now, for now anyway. If you do take my suggestion (remember: I'm not an expert, so these aren't to be taken super-seriously), the text might have to change location. Really though, you know that I love what you do. So keep it up, and try to post your work more often. ^^
