Hm, odd for me it's been more the norm. I even had player tell me they are happy they found a squad leader that is actually issuing orders or had enemy comander try to arty my squad in the middle of nowhere on the way to a flag (he missed though ) [DIAL]Doc

Ok 1st I do not play as comander, I like the foot work too much But I disagree with some statments made here... - In pubs players only care for them self. Wrong! I had great squads under my comand on regular EA servers. They did as told and we sticked together as a squad. Best fun evar! - Comanders are useless. Wrong! There abilit to have the overview as well as support squads have been important to me as squad leader. Nothing is more helpfull than getting a UVA request acknolegde by comand or some supplies dropped when your squad needs them. (well that point was made already but you can't keep repating it) - Squad leaders don't need to give orders it's pointless. Wrong! If I'm squad leader I'll always make sure to give orders to my team using the Squad screen and Voice. When ever I get orders from comand I'll be evaluating them and most of the time accepting them too. I must say though some comanders are 'twichy' when it comes to orders or give you odd orders. Like make your squad attack one flag but once you reach it make you move the a flag on the otherside of the map or asking you to provide repair support to a place even though you have no engineer in your squad. These are usually the cases where I'll be rejecting an order and stick to my current ones. - Good team play is only possible using extra VoIP software. Wrong! I've only used the Bf2 VoIP so far and it has worked great, allowing me to talk to my squad or comander on separate channels is a nice feature. Also most people only run this VoIP and so the chances of everyone being able to hear each other is much greater than with an external software (that people would need and konw where 'server' to connect too) For me Bf2 is at it's best when you have a squad that is following you and works as a team. You don't really need a comander, but if you add on top if this a comander that knows what he is doing game fun reaches new hights. For me this had happen with various people on pubs servers. Bf2 is at it's worst when you're not having a squad that works together, your comander is only interested in arting the most enemies or you're in a squad where you never get any oderers from your leader. I've experianced these cases too. But I'd say they are by far less frequent than the good cases

If it's an EA server I think it's an auto ban for 24h-48h :o on other server you might be out of luck... ...I had the same happen to me on a EA server once, ppl just keep running infront of my Tank or behind it while we tried to defend our last flag, so it was all a bit hectic :o [DIAL]Doc

As for Server IPs I find XFire to be much more usefull than having to tell someone an IP address If I'm not mistaken you can talk to squad leaders using the com. channel and organize two squads, not what you should be doing, but your comander. So I don't see a reall need in this or see this as a 'selling point' for 3rd party VoIP software My squads are often only 2-4 ppl and that's plenty folks to organize. Again multiple squads need to be taken care of by the comander that's his job (and not only play with the artilry (sp) ) I'll stick to the BF2 VoIP out of reasons I posted prior [DIAL]Doc

I don't see the point in needing two tools that do the same thing at the same time (but that's just me ) I can talk perfectly well with my comander using only BF2s VoIP as well as with all my Squad members. As for the past I had always problems running FA and Ventrilo at the same time, same for BF2. Always one would work but not both But again I don't really see a need for Ventrilo in FA or BF2 (I used to use Ventrilo in JO a lot ask State Cop or others that played it) and that's just me... ...so if you can run both and it works cool I can only run one and will use the in-game one since it give me the ability to work with any player on the server To G sure to chat for some fun in Ventrilo is ok and I don't mind, but when I go play BF2 or FA it's not for chatting (ok sometimes we get carried away god-cow and sharp know what I mean ) but usually it's to organize the team and get your side the victory. G I'm nuts but I still disagree with you The VoIP of BF2 is good quality (sure not the same as Ventrilo) but it dose the trick and (as said before) the option of having two channels is a big plus. As well as not having the enemy listening in on your plans is a big reason for me not to use Ventrilo... ...it has nothing to do with the program just these reasons. As for FA (and most likely BF2) it really didn't like Ventrilo thus another reason not to use it, since the ingame VoIP work well (for me) To Torch you should join my squad trust me no stupid talk there (unless I'm in the mood for it ) but most people I played so far did use it in good ways and had no real issues finding anyoing or stupid people on the voice channel. Maybe because it's squad only To DisposableHero I'm not sure why you go off on Teamspeak I wasn't talking about any product in particular only pointing out that BF2 has an integrated VoIP that works well. Hm Klink there are a few things you can check... 1st (but I'm sure you noticed that) make sure the server supports VoIP (needs the little head phones in the browser list) 2nd VoIP is not a team speak funciton, it's only to your squad, so if you're not in a squad nobody will hear you 3rd There are two channels one is shows just a little speaker icon under the map when you press the assigned button. That's the squad channel. The other is a speaker with a little star next to it. That's the com. channel where you can only talk to the comander (if one is present) and I think the other Squad leaders can hear you too (not 100% sure) btw. if you don't see these Icons at all check that your VoIP is turned on (in audio options) and that you have keys binded to 'Talk/say to...' and 'Com. channel' 4th make sure you don't have any other VoIP software running (I had issues and then BF2 just turns off VoPI) 5th if you have a firewall check the BF2 manual for what ports need to be opend and setup so that everything works 6th (not 100% sure on that one) but one friend had no VoIP until he switched his sound settings from Software mode to Hardware (and after playing and getting all messy sounds switching it back) and since then has VoIP working... So I hope this helped. The game is soooo much better with VoIP enabled and allows for even better team work. [DIAL]Doc

I use Voice mostly for tactical issues and it's always kind of bad if the 'enemy' is listening in (if you get what I mean ) that's why I'm usually not too fond of using Ventrilo, but I guess that's a preferance issue I see how it can be fun to laugth and chat, but I usually just resort to tpying for this. Nothing beats an LOL after you crashed you plane in some oppents plane and both go lol [DIAL]Doc

I don't understand why you guys keep using Ventrilo? BF2 has a great in-game VoIP support (and I noticed it not working well with any other VoIP software running in the background e.g. conflicting and thus not working) The ability to have two channels one for your squad and one to your commander is one of the really great things you get as a squad leader and I enjoy any moment of it when I have a commander I can ask for supplies and more detail on assigments etc. Well just wanted to throw that in [DIAL]Doc

Private 1st Class is at 500 points, no unlocking Lance Corporal is at 1000 and you get an unlock for 1 weapon. Also it might take a day until you actually get the unlock message (at least for me) I got the in-game promotion to lance corporal but only the next day when I logged in I got the pop up saying that I'm now Lance corporal and can unlock one weapon. Hi Klink I know what you're talking about, but as other have said play on 16 player maps a lot smaller often just a couple of vehicles and a lot more foot work going on. 2nd XFire me and I'll take you up in my Squad it's been always a blast with my friend and if you have a good Squad and the Team work is there this game soars. The tips on blowing up Tanks works you need to be a lot more sneaky to make it happen headlong rushing wont work and only get you killed and C4 is your friend for blowing up all kinds of stuff I have been playing Spec Ops only and love it. I like to drive Tanks or APCs and think I'm ok at it. Next thing on my list is choppers and planes. Best thing to learn these are is running a single player game ("Dragon assault" or something like that a map that has USM at the north and a lot if islands controlled by the MEC) chose USM on that map there you get to fly a plane or practice chopper flying Hope this helped too, cya [DIAL]Doc

Hello guys Ok Klink not sure why it didn't work for you but that's a copy of the post... Edited by fbi on Jun 10 2005 7:28PM (3 times) Ok, I finally figured out how to fix that damn crash to desktop error when using a GF4TI card. 1) download the Microsoft Framework, do a search on google (+download +microsoft framework) 2) download DXTweaker: http://mrbauer.net/files/dxtweaker.rar 3) Extract to a folder on desktop 4) Run DXTweaker, and goto "New" on the right 5) Point it to your root BF2 EXE (in your EA Sports\battlefield 2\ DIR) 6) Check the 2 boxes that contain 'SHADER' , one is FORCE PP SHADER OTHER IS PS SHADER or something of that sourt 7) Click Apply, and then click RUN on the top. It will launch the game with no problems and you will be playing very smoothly! I just wish EA and DICE would have included a simple pixel shader 1.2 include but w/e, this will be suffice for now.
