  1. That's kinda cool and all but im not sure why everyone wants to make things so small. For laptops this will be great but as far as the desktop market I believe I would tend to stick with a liquid cooled setup. Heat transfer on a cooler plate is pretty damned impressive and you dont need to try and overcome the heat gap like this thing does it simply wicks it away.
  2. Hope you have an awesome birthday pal! Hard to believe it's been 7 years since i found you malcontents on the internet looking for someone to play games with. Time certainly flies. Go treat yourself to something special today pal.
  3. Sorry this is after the fact but life has been a bit crazy for me at the end of the year. Hope all of you had a very merry Christmas and here's hoping that all of you have a great new year!
  4. Man AMD is killing it in price / performance. Kinda reminds me of the old days back in the early 90s. i mean yesh the 40xx cards perform better in most cases but Ill save the 200 bucks and sacrifice 10-20 fps since your eyes can't tell the difference. Add in they are smaller and dont require either case mods or a HUGE case to hold it and lets not forget they dont tend to set your house on fire AMD wins In my book hahaha.

Well the meeting wasn't at all what I expected, nor hoped for. Due to he past medical issues they are not able to do a heart cath to look and see what's going on. About 6 or 7 years ago we found out her lower aorta what pretty much blocked and she had to have a bypass done that went from her shoulder to her legs. He kidneys were weakened and they honestly didn't expect her to make it off the opperating table and if she did they said she would most likely be on dialysis. She beat the odds and made it off the table and her kidneys started working again however they were damaged. Now they suspect she has blockages in her coronary arteries that is only allowing her heart to pump out about 30% of its blood volume each beat. The bad thing is the bypass and her blocked lower aorta prevent them from going in to see what's going on with her heart and even if they could the dye they use would most likely shut her kidneys down for good. The cardiologist said that at this point they had really no other options other than medicine to see what happens. The meeting was with the hospice people, which i wasn't told, not her medical team since they do not see a way to fix her issues. They sent her home Sat on hospice care so she is home for whatever time she has left. It's kind of surreal to be honest. She has beaten cancer twice, survived a really bad car accident that should have killed her, fought off numerous diseases that i have only heard of on episodes of House, and the major vessel blockage in the past but it looks like this one is going to catch up with her. As with many things like this when they dont really have a treatment option we know what the final outcome will be we just don't know when. It could be 10 days or 10 years we just dont know. I'm still kinda numb even though with my medical training I know how bad it is I'm still holding out hope for the longest time we can have but I am also fully aware that at any time her heart could just give up. My Dad and Uncle passed away within a month of each other in October. I really hope she makes it past Christmas because that would really suck if she doesn't.

Ha! Awesome pic. Wish I had that disposition. Had to call EMS to take my bride to the ER Sunday. Turns out she is in congestive heart failure. They pulled a liter of fluid off her chest so she could breath and are exploring options to treat her. We have a meeting with the physicians today @ 1:00PM to let them know what they can do. With all her past medical issues it's going to be extremely difficult to do a heart cath to look at her coronary arteries and see if there is a blockage and her kidneys aren't functioning like they should so they are scared to use the dye they use anyway because it could shut them down. It's all pretty grim right now. I will update ya when i know more right now it's kinda touch and go.
  7. Hope all of you guys and gals have a very Happy Thanksgiving. It's gonna be a bit surreal here since Dad passed away a little over a month ago now but we can be thankful that he isn't in pain and suffering any longer. Remember to tell everyone you are close to, family and friends, how much you love them and what they mean to you. you never know you might not get a chance to again. Have a great Thanksgiving weekend guys!
  8. Ok it's not often I recommend a product for my online peeps, but if you ever have an issue where you get wax causing hearing loss / really muffled sound for whatever reason, I wholeheartedly recommend the Debrox ear wax kit. It's hands down the best 10 bucks I have ever spent. Make sure you dont have any type of discharge / drainage coming from your ear as that usually is infection or a busted eardrum and you need to see a doc for that ASAP. All you do is put 5 to 10 drops in the ear and let it sit there. It foams as it is a form of peroxide and you can hear the snapping and popping you would expect and the bubbles tickle the inside of your ear. It says leave in 15 to 30 min but I opted to leave it in for an hour while laying on the couch watching TV. Then you use the little squeeze bulb to flush your ear. I went off script with this part as well and used warm salt water / saline instead of just water as the salt dries up the wax buildup and warm because it helps melt it. 10 out of 10 stars. Would definitely recommend. It took three days of doing this twice an evening but it was well worth it. Went in for my quarterly checkup with my doc and mentioned it to her and when she checked my ear she said it was one of the cleanest she's ever seen. No idea why that ear went into wax overdrive but its spic and span now. Also had good news as far as my diabetes is concerned, A1C went from like 10 to 6.2 which is pretty awesome for an A1C level. Now if i can just get my back, neck and and all my other joint ailments in order I will be good to go. As it turns out, while it's fun and awesome when you are young, going through jump school, air assault school, and ranger selection school are pretty hard on your body when you start aging. 4 out of 10 stars. Would not recommend.
  9. So I sit down last night to play some and since the bride isn't feeling well I pop in my in ear monitors and go to playing but something sounds weird so I check them. Nope they are fine and working as they should but now I can only hear muffled sounds in my right ear. Yep you guessed it, for some reason that ear decided to go on an ear wax production frenzy and now that ear canal is plugged solid. I've put warm saline, alcohol and, hydrogen peroxide in there to try and dissolve it and get it out to no avail. Going to pick up a OTC kit today and hopefully that works otherwise its off to the docs to have them remove it. Ear is tender when I swallow and Im dizzy as a drunkard on Friday night. This blows. Funny thing is I generally clean the gunk out of them every two weeks as instructed by my doc. Maybe I had a touch of infection going on. Who knows, wish me luck.
  10. Hope anyone in FL made it through the storm ok. You guys have definitely taken the mantel as the hurricane magnet from us here in SC. Growing up it seemed like any hurricane on the East Coast was going to make landfall in SC. Now the atmospheric conditions have shifted and you guys seem to get damn near every one that comes in. After getting hammered a month ago even a squall like this one had to suck largely. Take care guys.
  11. I mean everything else has a holiday so why not eh? I hope my guy wins! Edit I know we stay away from politics here so if this is over the top let me know and I will remove it. Just tired of all the unsolicited texts and phone calls.
  12. That's kind of weird. The show has won nine Emmys and was nominated for 54 and they decide welp lets just cancel it with no wrap up or anything. Kind of reminds me of The Expanse. That show was at least picked up and was given a somewhat coherent wrap up even if they rushed it and omitted a ton of stuff they still had an ending. I dont get these companies man, you have hugely popular shows that people tune in for and you just decide to shut them down. Granted, I never really got that into Westworld as i am a huge fan of the movie and it seemed like they took a really cool movie concept and tried to stretch it to its breaking point however, from what I did watch the show had dick all to do with the movie except with its base story so there is that. i would be tempted to watch it except now I know that it just stops with no ending in sight. I have been enjoying the ending episodes of The Walking Dead but I get the feeling with only a couple of episodes left in the main show that it will leave a lot of stuff unresolved. I guess I can see some things being left open ended with the new spin off shows in the pipeline but I am not sure how those will work out. Even though they contain some of the main characters I dont know how they are planning to carry them into a new storyline. The main show however did give us the best line ever uttered in a show last night but in case there are those who watch but haven't seen it I will refrain from saying it but will say its at the end of this week's episode. We'll see. Hey there's always Fear the Walking Dead to fall back on and I could certainly see some of the main shows characters possibly showing up in that world / show. Another show that I have been enjoying and has its season finale next Sunday is AMC's Interview with the Vampire. It's a damned decent show and i am hoping that they dont do with it what they have done with Gangs of London. I loved Gangs of London but in the ever increasing money grab that TV shows have become they are only streaming season two on the AMC+ service. Sad for sure because i have been waiting to see it but you know me I refuse to subscribe to a service to see a show that did well so you decide to put it behind a paywall. Welp rant over.
  13. I hope these rumors are true. It will make it a lot easier to make the jump back to AMD. Back in the day AMD was killing it in the processor arena and I'd love to see them take that lead again. They pushed design ahead by light years. Remember folks competition is a good thing.
  14. Followup: Igor's Autopsy of the plug: Igor's Lab Dissection of the 12VHPWR In a nutshell, it seems the companies Nvidia has sourced their adapters from dont all have the same build quality and the internal design of the plugs is causing breakage internally on the plug channeling all of the power through less wires spiking the resistance across the plugs raising the temps. As Jay points out cables from power supply companies such as Corsair have 1 positive and one negative wire going to each pin socket on the plug making in nearly impossible for this to happen whereas the adapters from Nvidia have the wires soldered to a thin metallic strip that the pins are part of and the strip breaks if too much stress is put on the plug. Long story short, if you get a 40 series card use a power supply from a company such as Corsair as their cables are safe or from a custom cable manufacturer such as CableMod, who by the way will be offering a metal 90 deg adapter Oct 31st which solves both known issues (cable routing and the melting plugs, to avoid having your PC melt down.
  15. The 12v high power cable they send out with the cards is problematic to say the least. By problematic I mean they can burn your system, and maybe your house, to the ground.
  16. Its kind of surreal right now not having the old dude around but going through old pictures and talking with our group of friends has brought back old memories that I had totally forgotten. Lots of good times that I can hold on to and remember. I have made arrangements to have a small vial of ashes prepared in a brass tube that I will be placing in the bow rail of his, well mine now, Key West bay boat so that the old fart will be going out with us every time the boat hits the water. That was the one place he always enjoyed being so it is where he's gonna stay.
  17. My mom called me at work Wednesday and told me I needed to come by after work to visit my Pops. I went and i am so glad I did as he passed away Wednesday night, well Thursday Morning, which is good as Wednesday was my sisters birthday. As I sat there with him he really wasn't all that coherent and really the only thing he said that I could understand was that he didn't know how he was going to get home since he couldn't drive. He had that rattling sound in his breathing and as a former medical worker student I knew what that meant. When my mom went to go do something and left the room i took his hand and told him I loved him but if he wanted he could let go and I had everything under control. I told him "I got this.". I left and told my mom to call if anything happened and she called me as i was getting into bed to tell me he was gone. The one thing I want everyone I speak with to know is that no matter what, if you get the chance to tell someone you love them do so. Over the last year I have lost family friends and relatives I have known all my life and after the first one that i didn't get to tell I have made it my mission to tell them how much I loved them before they were gone. It gives both you and them a real sense of peace when they do leave us so if you have elderly friends or family and even if they are in good health let them know because you never know if you will get the chance again. Im one of the lucky ones who got to hold on to my Dad until their mid 50's so I have that to be thankful for and i am glad he is at peace now and no longer in pain but in our community and circle of friends we have lost a legend.
  18. I was thinking about life in general as I was driving in to work this AM sipping on a senior coffee.... that said why the hell is a normal cup of coffee now a senior coffee? Not that I'm complaining or anything it's way cheaper than the same cup called a small so sure, gimme that discount. I digress, the point of this was me reflecting on the past and I got to thinking about how nice things are now. Back in the day, shortly after I got out of the Army, I devoted myself to following my dream of working with computers. Back then there was no such thing as Windows and Microsoft was a small company started by a drop out that sold the DOS system that ran the instruction code for PCs. I built my very first computer from a kit from Tandy corp later known as Radio Shack. There were no premade parts in that kit. I had to solder each component on the main board carefully and test along the way. It was powered by the super awesome 2MHz, yes MHz, 8080 single core proc. There were no hard drives at the time, only floppy disks in the 8" or 5.25", if you were all high tech you used the smaller one, because it held so much more data and you could punch the disk case to make it double sided. I became one of the go to guys in my area for networking systems together as i was one of the admins of a local BBS and had to figure out how to get all the nodes talking to each other so multiple users could be online at the same time. Then along came Windows Networking and tied everything together. No longer did you have to purchase overly expensive networking software for a peer based network as it came with Windows for Workgroups along with the new to us TCP/IP protocol that was only used for the internet by the government. Today my cell phone is 120,000,000 times faster / more powerful than the computers used during the Apollo Space missions. Let's put that in perspective, a normal cell phone could pilot 120,000,000 spacecraft to the moon at the same time. Hell a TI-84 calculator can store roughly 14 thousand times the data that the guidance computer in Apollo 11 could. We all have access to the internet and not just government agencies. It just boggles my mind at how far we have come in just my lifetime. Today if I run into a problem I have never seen or need to set up something all I have to do is type in the question i have and Google will spit out pages upon pages of videos, tech articles, etc on how to fix or do what it is I want to know about. Just thinking about how much further along in my career or other pursuits I could be if the tools we have today had been available back then. Hell I even learned to play the bass from the internet and becoming friends with professional bassists such as Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot / Ozzy) and Billy Sheehan (Mr Big / David Lee Roth / Talas) who have taught me a lot about playing that I didn't pick up on teaching myself. Well enough time spent on reminiscing about the "good old days" , in truth they really weren't that good tech wise, and time to get to work Googling how to get some things working on a project I have. Cheers all, and Im glad we have progressed so far. If we hadn't it's almost 100% that none of us would ever have met. PS: MS and Google are still the devil and our corporate overlords despite all the good that has come from them.
  19. He should be great in that role. KZJ as Morticia is a pretty decent cast as well. Luis Guzman however... Don't get me wrong he's a great actor and I'm sure he will do fine but there shall be no Gomez above Raul Julia. Sadly since he is no longer with us so I guess I will check out Guzman. Astin was the OG and Julia did a great job when he took on the character so here's hoping Guzman can do just as well.

The best part is when he compares it to a full on PS5 and its damn near the same size hahaha.
  21. NetRngr posted a topic in Main Hall
I just can't believe this. What the hell are these companies thinking.....
  22. Knowing what time I'm gonna have in mine I dont even wanna know what time they have into that one.
  23. Absolutely, in Jay's video you can see there are titles where it absolutely dominates both AMD and Nvidia but likewise there are titles that are designed especially for those cards and they kill the others. From what I've seen if the title is a console port AMD will kill everyone else. Games that are designed with a specific manufacturer in mind they will excel (as expected) and so on. What I did find interesting is that Intel flat out says that titles not specifically developed with DX12 in mind or if your system doesn't have full R-BAR or SAM support just buy the Nvidia card. After watching far more review videos than I care to say I may go ahead and pop for a 770 when I build a new system or whatever the current high end version is if they keep that price point. All my spare cash is going toward the Galaxie restomod at the moment so it might be a while. 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 Fastback : ( Same color as this one just not as pretty right now.) Swapping the motor and trans from a 2000's Mustang GT so i can get the fuel injection and so that engine parts aren't so damned expensive. I'll keep the numbers matching motor and trans and maybe rebuild them later but if i decide to sell it it will definitely raise the asking price if I have the numbers matching powertrain to include.
