  1. I was pretty proud on how it turned out. Sound system, while turned down because there are classrooms to either side of this one, sounds really good with the ceiling mounted JBL speakers. My only criticism is that you can't put a lot of bass in it because they will rattle the ceiling grid on the drop ceiling. I'm thinking about putting in a subwoofer for the next school we do. I'm also putting together a parts listing for audio recording for the music departments with lots of options such as mixer size, different recording softwares, etc. It would seem just wrong NOT to have something for school music programs.
  2. So we pretty much finished up yesterday. Got the audio working from the commentator's station and completed the setup on the Legion Gaming Stations. Got the video feed over to the two 65" TVs in the spectators area. Now this isn't a competition arena like you would see for a big tournament but a classroom in a high school where they basically train the team for eSports events in a bigger arena. We are currently putting together a package for the school districts to build out an actual arena so they can host eSports events between schools which will be a lot more involved. Anywho here are some pics. im pretty proud of this room and we still have two more schools to do in the coming weeks.
  3. Almost finished with the wiring on one school. Wired up all the audio and got it configured and tested with the bluetooth on my phone. Just need to finish the video wiring and test it all out and take some pics. I wish they had all this stuff going on when I was a kid.
  4. Oh I'm with you I'm just saying there are people out there that are good enough that get flagged. As long there is an avenue to dispute it I dont see it being that much of an issue. I've just seen backlash toward companies who banned players without checking. I would venture to say that most of the bans occur from system process monitoring anyway which flags folks using cheat software anyway so that should eliminate most of the mistaken bans anyway. The only cheat codes i ever used were in single player games on a Nintendo console. The konami code for the win!
  5. You know if you read into that article it makes it seem like cheating isn't that prolific even though everyone knows it is and they even say it is. They may want to give the total number of cheaters banned and not just a one day total because saying 250 million people have played a COD match but saying 140 thousand cheaters were removed makes it seem like a very small amount even if that is the number of two ban waves. If you are going to be stripping players of earned rewards you better be damned sure that you are getting actual cheaters and not someone who is really good at the game. A lot, and I mean a LOT, of streamers get banned from games for simply being really good at it, you know it being their jobs and all, due to reports, numbers that dont look like a normal player, etc. If there is one way to shoot yourself in the foot its to wrongly ban someone who has a following of thousands of players. I would suggest the opposite of the Facebook approach of using algorithms without a 100% human overview. That said any actions taken against an actual cheater up to and including castration so they dont reproduce is fine by me. I also just love the way Twitter sees an image with a gun in it and censors it so you have to click to see it... SMH.
  6. Not sure the middle of the ocean is the best place to test that. We have a lot of desert area locked down and I'd really hate to see a drone full of fuel go down in an accident in the ocean.
  7. I would if the wife would let me. Hell I would get rid of the landline if she would let me as well. Alas if momma aint happy aint no damn body happy. Found out the big screen and the AV receiver are toast as well. I've stopped there not enough to file a homeowners claim so yeah. Oh and the microwave got nuked as well. My mom was like well go get a TV and receiver your birthday is coming up so all should be back to normal soonish.
  8. So yeah, we had severe thunderstorms with associated tornado here in SC last night. Drove in to it coming home from martini night with the fellahs. Got home and the wife is sitting there with the TV off looking a tad pissed off. I'm like "Oh noooooo!". She tells me that there was a lightning strike near the house and her TV quit working. I check the TV, it powers on so it's fine but the cable box wont power on. I go and check the entertainment center in the family room TV powers on pops up no device. Cable box wont power on, shit! I check the phones and internet both working fine so the cable modem is good to go. I try the home theater receiver it powers on so I switch it to the Firebox can't get it tgo show up so I reboot it and the switch in the cabinet, nothing. Sooo I'm off to the cable company this AM to replace the cable boxes and hopefully thats all that jacked up but I have a sneaky suspicion that it took out the Pioneer Home Theater receiver and maybe the firebox as well. PCs are fine as I spent the night playing video games. This whole adult thing sucks, can i go back to say 18 again? Sitting here this AM waiting for the inevitable HELP! calls.
  9. Yep, most of the high schools around here are getting into eSports these days. Kinda makes me wish I wasn't quite so old. Of course when i was in high school the pinnacle of gaming PCs was the Apple 2 C hahaha. Metal and wood shop were awesome man. I think the stones are working their way out now after I've been using apple cider vinegar to try and dissolve them. The bad thing is that since I have been in pain from them its caused me to sit and sleep in new and weird ways and my lower back and hip joints are now jacked up and sore. Nothing that is major but damn it sucks getting old.
  10. This week we are installing eSports classrooms in three of the area schools. Pretty cool setups featuring the Lenovo Legion gaming rigs. I am also setting up the audio, for the system cause well it's my thing. The audio comes out of the Commentator / Streaming PC via the HDMI feed over to a half rack that houses a 2 channel JBL commercial amp and a Furman line conditioner to snip out any interference (hum) you might get from lights etc. In the rack the HDMI hits a KanexPro Audio decoupler module and is routed to the amp and split to the left and right channels and then continues to a Kramer HDMI splitter via a fiber optic HDMI cable. From there it passes to two 75 inch Samsung observer screens for audience viewing. Since this is a smaller room there are only 4 ceiling mount JBL powered speakers that sit in the drop ceiling in place of the 2x2 tiles. Tested it out via a Bluetooth connection from my phone to the amp and streamed some Foo Fighters out to adjust the bass and treble levels and I gotta say it sounds pretty damned good. Of course they are using OBS over the network to capture and pump out the video of the matches since it's free and allows you to set up views for each PC stream as well as team views and save all of it to storage or pump it directly to Twitch. Once everything is in place I will take some pics and post them. There is a lot more involved in this stuff that meets the eye and kinda makes me want to go ahead and set up all my stuff in order to capture my audio and video in the studio area where I play and start posting some of it to YouTube. Maybe I will do this once I get these damned kidney stones worked out. Who knows.
  11. Kidney stones suck huge bawlz. That is all. Feels like someone kicked me on the left side of my lower back. As long as I dont move or twist it's all good, when I do hooooo boy. -10 stars Would not recommend.
  12. I have to say as long as the quality doesn't suffer i am all for it. The first 2 episodes of Obi-Wan were pretty damned good and the real world aging of McGregor and Smits looks like it should for 10 years down the road during hard times. Hell even the inquisitors were well played. Interested on seeing where this goes.
  13. ???? Ok having worked in some fairly large data centers in the past and knowing what I do about servers, when the hell have they ever needed a water cooled GPU? 99.9999 percent of the time the video isn't even being used because the KVM is switched to a different server and those that are selected are usually sitting on a static lock screen or they should be. Hell really big data centers dont even have anyone go into the server room to make changes they do it using scripts or a management platform such as System Center or whatever the hell they are calling it this week. The heat generated by the really low end GPUs is not what causes performance hits on servers its the heat generated by the processors and the huge amount of RAM that many of them run. This is why servers have ducted cooling and vapor chamber heat syncs in them with boo koo fans running at a deafening sound level. They wick the heat really efficiently and the jet turbine fans expel it out of the back of the unit immediately. This is also why you can pack meat in a data center server room. Ours usually stayed at 58-62 degrees and that was for a mid sized room. IMHO this just seems like someone at NVIDIA said in a board meeting one day, "Hey we could make these and the gamer nerds who are working on servers will eat it up!". For workstations, especially ones running high end CAD programs and video processing software, yeah sure put in liquid cooled everything because they need it. Servers not so much because these types of programs dont run on servers, EVER. All CAD and video editing type softwares utilize the workstations graphics capabilities and use the servers for centralized storage and operational files. If you are running your CAD and graphics intensive products on a virtual PC hosted on a server you are doing it wrong and Autodesk etc will tell you so.( The owner of one company I worked for wanted to do this and Autodesk flat out told them it was a bad idea and that they would not support it if they did it. Luckily they listened to them.) Of course that doesn't matter to a good many managers. As far as AI goes I haven't worked with it but a distributed server environment with SSD drives seems like the perfect application for this. For applications that do run on the back end such as SQL, ERP systems, etc., It's far more efficient to create a distributed server architecture and have multiple servers spread the load out among the members thus reducing the heat generated. It also has the added benefit of maying it much more fault tolerant in case one server has a problem users can keep working while that one server is replaced or repaired. /server nerd rant
  14. I feel ya. Mentally I still feel in my 20s but physically I'm pretty sure I died like 15 yrs ago. Zombie NetRngr FTW.
  15. We are the Lenovo and HP dealer here in this area and honestly I may replace my old homebrew gaming rig with one of the Legion rigs. We have been putting them in pretty regularly in the eSports labs the school districts have been building and they seem to be pretty solid machines. The HP Omens are pretty tight as well. Normally I would build my own but with the customization options available now you can pretty much get a home brew system with all the manufacturers warranties and all for about the same price point. That and i can get it at dealers pricing is pretty sweet.
  16. Boss and I interviewed a guy yesterday and we decided to hire him as a intern. Get this, the dudes legal name is Kal El. I shit you not. How could we NOT hire Superman? I mean it could not be any more perfect unless his first and last name were Clark and Kent respectively. When he introduced himself I guess he saw it in my eyes because he immediately said "Yeah my dad is a huge Superman fan." Sometimes life is awesome.
  17. I know it was just a joke. I have resisted CoD mainly because of the toxicity of the community and the rampant cheating in the past. We'll see how this one goes and maybe I'll get into it. God knows DICE isn't giving us anything worth a flip to play.
  18. Over a decade later, Modern Warfare 2 is still full of holes a-holes. Fixed that for you. Hahahaha.
  19. I have finally reached, as the old guru's put it, a "State of Clarity". My enlightened perspective? Life isn't fair. I came to this conclusion yesterday and everything just makes so much more sense now. The event that brought me to this heightened awareness? I was at the dentist yesterday to have oral surgery to have a broken tooth removed. Helpful hint guys, make sure the BBQ you are chowing down on doesn't have any chipped bone in it as teeth with crowns really dislike bone in something you are really into eating. Upon having the dentist, a grandson of a friend of the family's, ( yeah really feeling young and snappy with that alone) cut and pry the remainder of the tooth out of my skull, I am at the counter to settle up with them and out comes little Billy, no idea what his real name was but Billy will work, all happy and excited because he lost his first tooth and the tooth fairy was going to come see him that night. Upon settling up it hit me, as a kid when you lose a tooth you get paid for that tooth, as an adult when you lose a tooth you pay half a weeks salary to get it removed. As stated before, life just aint fair! Have a great day everyone!
  20. As expected. Even with the deep pockets Intel has they are breaking in to a relatively new market for them and delays are to be expected while shaking out the bugs. Granted Intel has provided low end integrated graphics for decades but taking that tech and moving it to an add on is a whole other animal. Wish em luck and hope they come out with a great product but the Intel cards are gonna be pretty trashy for the first little while IMHO. I could be wrong but odds are in my favor.
  21. The pond that is behind the racetrack, well off to the right is in my backyard hahah. I dont care if you guys know my address but dont want web crawlers to find it. I'd hate to have to shoot a bitch. If anyone here ever decides to partake in the nascar race hit me up. I have plenty of parking room and you are welcome to park for free. I dont normally let folks park unless I know them but do allow friends park for free. Seeing as the cheapest parking in the area is 2o bucks per day for a car and 45 bucks a day for campers it can get pricey. All i charge is that you hang out around the firepit and consume a few beverages and have a good time. The grill usually fires up around 5:30 -6:00 PM where bovine goodness is prepared.
  22. While Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is a fine fine bourbon, oof, it will knock you on your keister! Just so happens that Cinco fell on our weekly gathering for martinis and fellowship. Now I dont partake of the martinis because, well gin, but everyone enjoyed a bit of the bourbon this week, some of us more than others. Wife was none too happy that I had to sit around for a few hours before i could manage to get home legally. Hahaha It's race weekend here in Darlington so the HP and Sheriffs Office are out in force so yeah, better safe than sorry.
  23. Have a Happy Cinco guys! Enjoy just keep it legal. No one needs a DUI or worse.
  24. With as old as I'm getting and as crappy as my eyesight is I'm way past buying a "gaming" monitor. Hell I'm lucky if I can see that flea on the dogs back at this point hahaha.
  25. I still say they did a spot on job of making the cast look a lot like the original guys / gals, esp. Pike. That said after seeing Rebecca Romijn pretty much naked with scales i get a strange tingly feeling. Ahem, nuff said.
