1. Well I wouldn't be upgrading till I build a new box anywho. R-BAR / SAM (same thing) have been around for a couple of years so 10th Gen Intel Chips support it as does AMD but its called SAM and requires both CPU and GPU be AMD to utilize the SAM processes from what I have gathered. I think the main hurdle will be main boards and their ability to use the R-BAR / SAM technology. Truth be told nether AMD or Nvidia chipsets show much of a performance boost when this is enabled. It sounds really good in theory but just doesn't pan out that way from all the data I've seen. Intel may have figured out how to get the memory stream optimized but we really won't know until it gets put through the ringer. Could be great or it could fall flat. Time will tell I guess.
2. It all sounds really good but until someone like Jay or Linus get their hands on one and put it through its paces I'm gonna have to be a pretty hard pass. I never buy a vehicle that has a new first year engine style simply because they are untested in mass. I'm the same way about most things, if it proves to be a solid unit that can handle gaming it will be a godsend for gamers who dont want to fork out what we used to build entire systems for just for a GPU. If it can deliver the goods, they can make enough of them, and it stays at that price point, they will rock AMD's and Nvidia's socks off.
3. Well it puffed up a bit and went back to a Cat. 1 before making landfall like a drunken sailor on shore leave but Cat. 1 storms we can deal with. Storm surge was the biggest thing. Crested the dunes and buried most of the coastlines roads under a foot or so of sand. Pawley's Island pier went walkabout. Got to see some pretty gnarly video of that as well. all in all most people around here did well. Never lost power or internet so I sat around watching TV listening to the wind howl outside expecting to have to fire up the genny but never did. This news story shows the pier collapse. Had several others damaged pretty badly as well. Pawleys Island pier collapses amid Ian surge
4. The Grand Hurricanado Ian is expected to fly right across my house according the the latest predictions so hunkering down for a crappy weekend. Not gonna be real bad just some winds and of course rain out the wazoo. Hoping any Florida peeps here are ok and managed to pull through it relatively unscathed. I expect lawn furniture and mobile home damage in this area. Here in SC we have a standing joke... What does a hurricane and a redneck divorce have in common? Doesn't matter. Either way someone is losing a trailer. Be safe all and I'll see ya on the flip side.
5. This is a really good move on their part. With all the publicity of the shady dealings Nvidia has been exposed doing, EVGA no longer working with Nvidia, and the insane prices for new gen graphics cards Nvidia has posted they can sell at a much lower margin and still kill them in the end. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a for profit company making money especially on a good product but yeah Nvidia, which has been my go to card of choice for decades, is just acting like a slimy company and making money grabs while engaging in blatant anticompetitive practices when it comes with the third party companies and that just ain't cool. They kind of remind me of MS to be fair, well at least pre antitrust suits. I will definitely be going with an AMD GPU my next go round and to be honest the AMD CPUs have impressed the hell out of me working with them on these eSports labs so I will probably be going full AMD in the next gaming rig.
6. This is my shocked face.... Seriously was this unexpected by anyone? One of the main reasons I chose BF over CoD was it had a lesser amount of cheaters... well at the time.
7. I'm afraid it's may be too little too late. Its good they are trying but with cheaters as soon as one cheat is discovered there are 10 more that aren't.
8. Davie is one of my heroes. I am nowhere on the level of these folks. One reason is while I own a 5 string I cant play it for shit. I'm definitely a four string kind of guy. As soon as my neck and back get back in action I'm definitely going to have to get back to practicing. Its been months since I have been able to play.
9. Well over the years.. sounds weird to say that, I've gotten use to the "back and forth" you speak of. It's your baby man do as thou will. I'm just glad its around cause I've grown fond of your cranky old ass hahaha. Here's to many more years and hopefully a BF that is good and doesn't alienate the people who actually matter.... the players. Maybe it's nostalgia but even with as rocky of a launch as it had IMHO BF4 was the pinnacle of the franchise with BF3 a very close second as far as playability and features go. IMHO again when they removed the player run servers and the ability to freely mod them the game started a slow and steady downward trend and it still to this day astounds me that even with long time players giving their input they refused to listen. When even LevelCap (Charlie) who was one of the worst critics of private servers says you are screwing the pooch maybe, just maybe, you should listen.
10. I moused over you in the latest visitors and it said you were last seen at 4 something AM... do you ever sleep hahaha.
11. Here are a couple of tunes with me playing the bass lines for ya... Alan Parsons Project - Games People Play Ed Sheeran - Thinking Out Loud I'm trying to get everything set up again to start recording tracks again with video after my equipment getting nuked by lightning a couple of times. Once i do i'll have more to share but I did have these on my Google Drive.
12. Why yes I can. I'm actually getting everything together so i can go attend a masterclass session with my Facebook buddy. He's the guy playing the pink bass in this video. Anyone that can shred on a bass is definitely a master. Been buddies on FB with Billy Sheehan for a few yrs now. He also co-wrote most of the songs on David Lee Roth's Skyscraper Album. It's good to have friends and the one time Facebook has actually been worth having in this world.
13. I feel you brother. Not a whole lot I would change but there definitely are things that need to be set right.
14. So I have been slammed recently. No time to do anything. Granted My area has become the new Florida with a thunderstorm every afternoon so I'm getting a constant flow of computers nuked from orbit. It's also the time school is starting up so the districts are ramping up and ordering Chromebooks and the kids are breaking them. All that and yard work on the weekends have pretty much nixed any time to do anything other than that and fall down when it's done. Can someone pls invent a machine that allows me to go back to when I was say 17 but allows me to retain all the knowledge I currently have. I would be a friggin gazillionaire quickly with no responsibilities and when i come back I can just pay people to do all this crap for me lol. Oh well, back to fixing lightning damaged PCs and explaining why, since they didn't back anything up, none of their super important stuff is there anymore. Well truth be told I have been able to put most of the HDs in a dock on my desk and get a lot of it back. Stuff they dont have install disks for anymore well thats kinda on you huh.
15. So I like to keep up with folks I have met over my years that work in the gaming industry but have been lacking a bit so last night I decided to look and see what a fellow I have known since the mid 90's (Jesus it's been a while) is up to these days. That fellow is Raph Koster. Back when i met Raph he went by the handle Designer Dragon, and was working on a brand new game. It was a little game called Ultima Online upon which i served in a ingame support role as a Counselor. Raph went on to later work on other games such as SWG, EQII, and others. Given he was one of the founders/developers of LegendMUD way back in the early 90s we pretty much owe at least a nod to him if you have ever played a MMO. That said I discovered that he has created a development company called Playable Worlds and is working on a new sandbox game. Raph is responsible for coming up with most of the major features that make MMO's and sandbox type games such a hit. Things like player run economies, ingame towns you like in, player housing, etc are all this dudes brainchild. Right now there isn't a whole lot of info on the game out there just that they are working on it but I've reached out to Raph to see if he can give me any hints to let you guys know. Also on the staff as of June is one Gordon Walton who has worked on various projects from Konami, Origin, Maxis, Sony Online and BioWare. He is pretty much a legend in his own right when it comes to game development. If you want to read up on some of Raph's musings on game development and how it should be done, you can look over some of the articles he's posted on the Playable Worlds news page at: Playable Worlds Website
16. Cool, I'll add it to my Steam Purchase list. Got a few tunes I want to pick up so I'll grab it once i get that full list together and make a big purchase.
17. Is the game still a buggy mess or did they get everything worked out? Worth the pickup? Enquiring minds want to know!
18. OOOOO... Surprised DICE/EA let that happen. EA isn't real big on the mod thing.
19. So as i stated a while ago I've been going through my Steam catalog and giving games a try that for whatever reason I put down be it due to bugs in early access or whatever. I've been playing 7 Days to Die recently and I have to say they have made a lot of steps forward in this game. Its not nearly as buggy as it once was and actually rather fun just in its vanilla state. That said i have started playing using mod packs that players have developed and that has opened up a whole other game. Some of these mods are amazing. Currently I'm using the Darkness Falls mod for the game and holy hell has the game gotten more involved and a lot harder It uses a lot of the NPC models from older versions of the game that are still in the graphics files and introduces a whole new crafting system as well as using existing graphic images for new workbenches and items. New NPCs and a nice "Doomish" storyline. When I get done I want to give the Undead Legacy mod pack a try as it takes the term mod pack to a whole new level and expands on pretty much everything and basically makes it a new game. I'm really liking the willingness for some of these small dev teams to allow player mods that expand the game and if I am not totally mistaken they are actually incorporating some of these things into the game and using the developers of the mod packs as independent contractors allowing them to be paid to work on the stuff but most of them are also streamers / creators with Patreon accounts that allow for donations. The guy the created the Undead Legacy mod does it as his job currently and from what i understand makes a pretty decent living working on the mod and expanding it. Anyway if there is interest I may be hosting a server for undead legacy. Hit me up and let me know if you have the game and would be interested in trying it out.
20. Here's hoping that all of you had a happy and safe fourth. Let's all take a moment to remember that our freedom was and still is provided by those who are willing to take up the task to serve and make sure that our way of life and freedoms are maintained. to all my brothers and sisters who have served and are currently serving our nation, my hat is off to you and thanks you. I felt the call early on hearing grandfather talk about being in the 82nd Airborne but never about his time in WWII. As i grew older I came to understand why he did not want to relive those days. Once I joined I decided to follow in his footsteps and after serving in an aviation unit, because helicopters are just cool, I went to jump school at Ft Bragg (82nd), Then to Air Assault School at Ft Campbell (101st), and finally to Rangers Selection School at Ft Benning. I remember him being very proud of me and that made all the hard work and sacrifice, I was married at the time so lots of time away from home, all worthwhile. Upon looking at the state of the country and its divisiveness I'm starting to think that the countries that have mandatory military service may be on to something. I know that I would not be the person I am today without the service I undertook. It has given me qualities that you just dont get normally. These qualities have aided me in my professional and personal life more than i can say. The least of these being punctuality, the ability to work effectively in a team setting, the ability to focus, and leadership. My time has also instilled in me the ability to accept others for whom they are regardless of their skin color, religious beliefs, or whom the chose to love, to be kind when it's needed and to come to the aid of another, to always strive to do what's right regardless of any potential detriment to myself. Again to all those currently serving, all those who have chosen to serve in the past, and everyone else, here's to you. Hooah! and I hope you had a Happy and Safe 4th.
21. Good info. I'm still trying to figure out what's causing my system to run the C: at 100% utilization. It really doesn't affect anything Im doing , well not that much as most of what i do is run from my SSD which is my secondary (D:) drive. It causes some lag loading browser stuff but otherwise its ok. If it wouldn't be such a PItA to reload everything I would go with a SSD for my main drive. Come to think of it I do have the stuff to clone the drive so i think I will. clone the Current SSD, which is pretty new and hasn't seen much use to a 1 TB SSD, then take the 500gb SSD and clone the OS drive and swap it out. double the space for games and such and a faster more efficient OS drive. Humm, my only reservation about using a SSD for my OS drive is the swap file. with the constant read writes to the swap file I wonder what the life of a SSD would be. Gonna give that a look right now and see what the prevailing opinion is. Currently I'm running a 10K RPM server drive as the C: drive and yes, it does sounds like a jet powering on at startup but the 100% OS drive utilization does have me concerned. The stuff nerds worry about lol.
22. Here's one from a NC gal. 22 and if you didn't see her you could mistake her for Stevie Nicks at that age.
23. They are a little late to the game on this one. https://www.opera.com/gx?utm_campaign=OGX_US_Search_EN_Generic&utm_source=sa360_GOOGLE&utm_medium=pa&edition=std-1&gclid=CjwKCAjwquWVBhBrEiwAt1KmwsEF7JzRRcGIwaYQRnpvMvnzDvAwlQixlnwbgZR5U4OokGSpONlv2RoC6KEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
