I have comcast as well, there are times where all of the sudden ALL and I mean ALL of their bandwidth is suddenly open to you. Its like you magically tapped right into their backbone. Strange thing is that they recently upped bandwidth to 4mbs/384kbs and my net suddenly seems slower. Its weird, but then again I will be going back to college soon and so that makes it a moot point.

Ok, heres the skinny: After the last couple CSS updates (thanks valve! not), CSS suddenly started running like crap on my machine. Before these updates, everything ran like a dream, decent FPS throughout, no stuttering, nothing. Now, everytime I play the game it is choppy and I have a poor FPS. I have set all the graphics settings to lowest, and still the game chugs. I tried updating my drivers, nothing, I have tried analyzing the console and net_graph 3 readouts, nothing. Someone please help! PS Im going to annihilate Steam entirely and reinstall, and see if that helps. Reinstalling CSS alone didnt work either. Sys Specs: 1.7 Ghz Pentium M (eq to 2.8-3.0 ghz P4) 1024 mb PC 3200 or 2700 RAM (Cant remember, *blush*) 128mb ATI Fire GL T2 9600 Mobile (Despite being a workstation card, it has never, ever given me problems before) XP Pro w/ SP2 Drivers seem to be irrelevant, the game ran beautifully on 1+ yol drivers, then went to crap, remained crap with driver update.

OK, this is really kind of random, but after years of seeing this phenomenon, I have to comment on it and see if I cant gain some insight as to why it occurs: Why is it that the CS community is obssessed with the Terrorists! Everyone has some Terrorist related spray, creates flash animations/ownage videos of T's owning CT's (newgrounds has tons of em), CSnation has a ton of artwork (yes, artwork) where T's are tearing up the CTs. Whats up with this? Not only do the CT's have much cooler skins in both CS and CS:S, but they have much cooler names. Who would you rather be? A member of the L337 Krew or SEAL Team 6, Phoenix Konnektion or Special Air Service, Arctic Avengers or GSG-9? I mean come on, the CT's are just so much cooler on every level, I just cant see why so many CS players identify themselves with gun-toting, fundamentalist wackos. Can someone explain this to me? I am totally at a loss to explain this, I have some ideas rooted in pyschology, in which I have no formal training, but otherwise I am stumped. PS Hows this for the most random thread ever?

the cheating problem has gotten out of hand, valve needs to hire the RIAA as its legal goonsquad. Then, every time someone hacks, the RIAA can sue the crap out of em' and take the their first born child. After that, said hackers house should be burned down and salt poured on the site so that nothing grows there ever again.

Thats why i stopped playing old CS, EVERYONE hacked. A couple times I would try and make a comeback and get back into the game, but usually the first server I joined would have at least one or two speedhackers, etc. Looks like the filth is already moving over to CSS, sigh

im putting it towards my "Buy A Ridiculously Huge TV Set for Sophomore Year of College" fund. I might spend some of it on a video card for my desktop (9600xt prolly), but otherwise I am going to wait to buy a major upgrade till all the new stuff that is right around the corner comes out

What the hell is it with people taking pride in moving at unsafe speeds, putting themselves and others at needless risk and evading law enforcement. I admit I occasionally break the speed limit to pass someone or stay with traffic, but all these tales of ppl going 100+, not to mention all the close calls I have had with ******* drivers (dont even get me started on women drivers...) has me wondering if it is even safe to drive anymore. whew, sorry had to get that off my chest, dont take it personally

Well, Im sitting here, a poor 19yo Student, doing my taxes on TurboTax, and let me tell you, looking at all the forms I would otherwise have to fill out if I was real working man..... Well, let me just say, I think I WANT to be poor, it looks like making money generates a crapload of confusing and possibly devastating paperwork. Ugh

Im not expecting miracles (Look at HL source, nothing big), DOD looked pretty good to begin with. Some sharper textures, new explosion/water/atmosphere effects, and maybe some cleaner animations and I will be happy. DOD has already proven itself to be better than any other WW2 game in multiplay (except I still think the germans have an uber advantage with their weaps, realistic as it is).

waiitttt.... I thought valve was itself working on an official release that would integrate HDR, they even redid part of the coast level so you could experience it in the singleplayer. It was posted in steam several weeks ago

I just wrote that little mini story because it sounded cool, I know its not accurate at all. Snauhi is probably right, but I know for a fact that the Barrett is anti-material/EOD weapon, not an anti-personal rifle. The guy probably is just posing, but still, it looks pretty sweet.

check what Statecop said, he verified that they use Barett lites to set off ordnance. Heck, I know its just a game, but in AA, you qualify on the .50 by shooting out mortar rounds. "The M82A1 is known for US Military as the SASR - "Special Applications Scoped Rifle", and it was and still is used as an anti-materiel weapon and EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) tool" found this on the web as well

Even though Cop is right, I think its much cooler to imagine this: The Lone Soldier saunters down mainstreet Ramadi at high noon, the sun glaring off his visor, the streets deserted save the occasional tumbleweed.... Suddenly a terrorist pops out of an alley, RPG poised to fire BLAM!, hes vaporized in a reddish mist. Then another pokes his head out of a window, KAPOW! He gets the Icabod Crane treatment. All of the sudden, 5 more come running out of nowhere firing their AK-47's wildly. 7.62mm rounds glance harmlessly off the Lone Soldier's armor, his eyes are narrowed and his glare is steely as he calmly takes a knee. Three echoing blasts ring out, shattering nearby windows and kicking up motes of dust and sand. Three terrorists fall over, a single shell having blown through each one in rapid succession, a gaping hole where each's abdomen once was. The other two are blown to flaming piles of goo as the explosive/incendiary shells detonate inside of them. The Lone Soldier calmly thumbs the magazine release, the clatter of the magazine of the concrete echoing on the once again deserted streets. Calmly he loads another mag, and walks off in search of fresh meat. Much cooler, IMHO

yeah, its my desktop too. SOCK: Id feel sorry for the 50 baddies, .50BMG armor piercing, explosive, incendiary rounds (all in one!), depending on the skill of the marksman, it would be a pretty messy confrontation. Especially since the barrett is quickly reloaded! FINNER: The M82 is designed for ant-material sniping at distances closing in on a mile, so I think it might be more accurate than the m4. Also, Im pretty sure he is EOD since they sometimes use rifles to set off ordance and God knows there is enough unexploded ordance in iraq to blow the country to smithereens. Im having my friend photoshop up the pic a little, so its sexier and of better looking.

This is what the Ultimate Sniper Combo would look like in FA, hvy everything plus M82: I think this is an EOD guy in Iraq, either that or a really pimped out sniper. This dude could walk down the street of any city in iraq and just take out the insurgents as they try and pierce his armor.
