building a file server (suggestions)
Thanks guys! How about WINXP Pro is there a way to setup FTP limits? The main thing I want to have is certain folders that are shared but only can be accessed by me and marshall. Like put all of our game stuff in those folders where when we log on we have access to them but when his sister logs on she cant see them...I know I could make them read only but then he cant change/add when he needs to. If she was able to access the folder it would only be a matter of time before...POOF something is gone and nobody knows where it went.I talked to a friend today that suggest Linux but I have ZERO knowledge in that area.

building a file server (suggestions)
I am not looking for a web server. You can run a file server on a slow P133. I dont mean for a business or anything...just serve some MP3s on my home network...stuff like that...real low end. You are correct about the ability to run Server03 with multiple CPUs but it is not required (I dont think). I was looking at that because of it software side options like ability to control folder access not the ability to run programs fast. Most likely the only program running on it would be an Anti-Virus of some type. Why would I pay major bucks to rent a rack mount web server to host my files which should be on a LAN when the fastest I could get them back is 1.5MB/s because of my internet connection. When it is on a LAN I can get them back at 100MB/s which granted may be slightly under that 100MB/s because of HD constraints. Either way the ethernet would still be fast as for the file hosting part (my main objective). As for the FTP part it would be faster to rent a host but the economics of that are to big for something that is not making money.

building a file server (suggestions)
I am building a file server for my home network but am not sure what I want to use as far as the OS. What I want to do with it:-Host files for my network-maybe run a teamspeak server-Print server-maybe set up FTP for my buddies to share files at certain times (when I am not gaming-*I would like be able to specify what files can be shared to which user/IP.I know some of you guys like fatty are network guru types...so give a brother a little direction.........I first looked at just running it with a WinXP Pro but have looked at MS Server 2003. As for the specs of the system it is going to be slow because of cost restraints and I am using some old stuff in my "box-o-stuff" from my garage. It will be a 500Mhz Celeron with about 512MB of PC100 Ram and the HD will be from 80-120 GB. I will most likely hardwire it to my router which is on my DSL connection (1500/256). Would that be enought a system to even run MS server 2003?Thanks for the help guys!

I got a question
I am working on a project for work and am looking for a good installer program. I like setup factory but it is kinda high and I am not sure my ageny is going to drop money for this. If you know of any free installers that would be GREAT or untill I can get enough support for this. One of the Captains at HQ ask me for help putting all of our digital forms which he had been working on. This way they could be distributed and installed for our not so tech savvy users. He ran into a problem with putting them on CD is they are read-only (no duh Capt. ) So I suggest he use an installer and I get the project  . I really like the products at http://www.indigorose.com/site/index.php cause I could add an update to the program which would allow us to send out new forms without mailing a CD to every district office all over the state. I have also just downloaded the Nullsoft installer which is FREE (free is a good thing). I havent tried it yet though. I have heard good things about VISE but havent done anything with it. All suggestions welcome...if you name a product please give me a link also.

Moonshine anyone?
It is basically home made liquor usually clear and has an extremely HIGH or in some cases low alcohol content that is not regulated. It is almost always made with less than sanitary means and unorthodox methods like using battery acid to speed up the process or car radiators for condensers which puts lead into the mix these results in a lot of deaths each year not to mention other things they do in the process. Those things along with the fact it is also untaxed and unregulated in a regulation state makes it illegal. A side note to this is it can actually be a federal crime as well.

Armory's Position on Map Exploits
well I didnt mean skill in the literal since.....I guess I should have said "skill" (notice the " ") as it refers to people who as you say practice those things and feel they are "good" at exploitiong which they equate to "skill".Thanks for pointing that out to me...I should have articulated myself better. I agree with your meaning and was thinking that but wasnt clear in my writing. (it made since in my head...lol)Hope that clears up my meaning.....

Armory's Position on Map Exploits
Ok guys chill...I will give limited view on this topic.....1. Exploits that I don't agree with are the ones that require a lot of extra skill just to get on top of something (cough.. kliffy I still love ya.. cough) while I don't scream and jump up and down about it I don't use them and don't agree with them. As for what should be banable I have seen only a slight few that I would take serious action against. Most have to do with getting up on mountains where you can shoot across the map without being detected and thus making a major difference in the out come of the game. As for the hill on Golan I found this and was able to do it with as little skill as I have and don't think it makes the advantage to great so I don't think it qualifies by any means. The ones that gripes me has been mentioned but has been ruled on by higher members is the tank gun on rubble. True it can be defeated with preemptive action, but I usually just leave when it happens if I am on the blue team. The reason is this has been ruled legal. All and all I think we are doing a good job of keeping the even balance for everyone to have fun. When we see an exploit that made a major problem one of the admins usually bring it up in admin chat and we come to a unified conclusion. Again these should be taken on a case by case basis. One thing to remember is we are all playing for FUN! If you are playing a match then I say it should be looked at a little closer.

Now I cant login to that account nor can I recreate it...GRRRRR!I was able to register an old email account under another user name.....but it seems to have more bugs than when it was released into beta. I hope this is cleared up soon or playing is going to be a problem.

Moonshine anyone?
So true Norm! The bad thing is even the companies that bottle this stuff use the same techniques just inside clean buildings. The mash is the same and sometimes get rats in it.

Moonshine anyone?
lol...looks clear but had crap all in it...not to mention the whole battery acid thing....

Moonshine anyone?
Hey guys I was going to try to make the match today but was called out this morning....I know...as always! I had to do the "alcohol" part of my job while not as fun as kicking in a door and flash banging a house. As most of you know the state police agency I work for is basically a vice unit which means we work alcohol, tobacco, narcotics, prostitution, gambling, and public corruption. Well today was the first "still" (from the word distilled) I have ever gotten in the 6+ years I have worked in law enforcement. It is rare to see something like this now-a-days. The next time you guys hear about someone drinking moonshine, white lightning, white wiskey, or any other name it goes by tell them about this nasty crap...The pictures do not do it justice I promise you!!! We found dead rats, snakes, and hornets in the mash. Here are some pics: A little peace of Heaven in the back woods of Alabama... http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/still/025.jpg Hey Bubba...you in the shed? http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/still/026.jpg Oh look it is so clean... http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/still/027.jpg Here is the mash they use to make the whiskey...there were dead rats and hornets in there also...mmmmhhmmm GOOD! EXTRA FLAVOR! http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/still/002.jpg Ok when Bubba gets in a hurry he adds the car battery in the mash to speed things up! Oh yeah think of the minerals you get! http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/still/007.jpg Some finished product.... http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/still/006.jpg He will not be needing this barrel any more! http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/still/021.jpg OH LOOK! I did find some dope today! YES! http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/still/004.jpg

NO STEAM!
Ok guys some friends and I have been working on a way to zip these steam files and get them into a MUCH smaller pack. If I can get some of the things right I MAY be able to offer them for download or on CD for you guys. I have been able to reduce the file size greatly but there have been some files that were not working after putting it on other computers. Anyway as the 56k users go it will be hard for them to play but as for broadband...no problem. If you are on broadband steam will be something you will like after you use it a while.

IF your IP is 24.67.189.115 we need to chat! (everyone read)
Yes I know...

IF your IP is 24.67.189.115 we need to chat! (everyone read)
I have added this IP to the ban list until we can find out what is going on with it. If it is accident I will gladly unban them but this may be the best way to find out who has the virus.

I have already checked your IP and it wasnt you

IF your IP is 24.67.189.115 we need to chat! (everyone read)
Ok guys there was a virus sent to one of the armory email address. The good news it was caught easily. I HOPE this is an infection of soneone's system and NOT a directed attack. Never the less I have traced it back to this IP 24.67.189.115 which is a shaw cable user. If this is you or someone you know contact me and I will be more than happy to help get this bug off your system IF you didnt know you had it AND IF YOU DID KNOW... I GOT YOU...YOU CAN NOT HIDE FROM ME! I have a few years under my belt of tracking down much better hackers than the likes of you! I posted the following for other admins to read and I dont mind you guys reading this in hopes you guys know this person or can help me find who it is: I have dived into the headers of this email to track down the source. Well it seems this email was bounced around the world on some proxies/open relays and some spoofing of the email address nice try scum! Thus you failed to hide from me cause I SO have a lock on your <edit by me>! Anyway I have two ideas of what happened.... 1 A person has this on their system and doesnt know it. The virus used the SMTP of its code to send it through some relays and proxies in Asia. I have some problems with this theory but I am trying to think the best. 2. Some scum bag tried to send us a virus and half <edit> tried to hide their tracks with only limited success. The reason I say this is because it is an older virus and IF it used a SMTP part of its code to send through the relay it used I find it hard to believe that relay would still be up after this long, the virus was discovered in 2002 btw. As this is the more paranoid theory it could be someone we <edit>...like tonight. So if you guys can think of anyone let me know if you have the IP. I have traced the origin to a Shaw Cable user in Canada more specific in the Calgary area. The origins IP is: 24.67.189.115 They used 218.56.32.3 as the relay which is in Beijing China. If you think you maybe infected please run this remove tool as it will kill it if you have it http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixYaha.com

RIAA is mean
I havent got into this thread cause I have been in some heated debates on the broadbandreports.com forum area about this very subject. I get mad that the RIAA is calling it "illegal" when I have looked VERY closely at the law and I think it could easily be argued that this is a "CIVIL" thing and not one we should be wasting out time with. I think this is the reason we havent seen any criminal charges on this DMCA which Slick Willie Clinton signed! Rather than going over every little detail of the law I will leave it at this I THINK IT SUCKS and the RIAA is only getting a small percent of what they really deserve! They are more the real criminals than anyone downloading! Just my thoughts! If you care to read some of my rants please visit my profile on Broadbandreports.com and look through some of my post. Here is the main post that I got mad about this moron who just couldnt understand law...the post is locked so I am not sure how long it will stay on the board so read it while you can...its kinda funny at times. http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/remark,7503177~root=poll,swapping~mode=flat Here is my profile where you can see some of my other post...this is my other fav site for surf! http://www.broadbandreports.com/useremail/u/689533

Firearms and Steam?
Yeah that is true. From what I have heard the next HL update is going to be the steam update so everyone is going to be on it. This is just rumor but it will be interesting to see what happens. Here is an article I just saw on broadbandreports about steam. Most of it seems to be what we already know but I am worried that they are going to make the multiplayers pay-for-play http://www.broadbandreports.com/shownews/32475
