  1. I have been doing some testing with this and it is very easy to add your FA to steam. As Kliffy said there must be a FA server running steam....I have seen one before but not many people in it....might not be a bad idea for that 30 player test server. The cool thing about that is it is a free beta and more people could play for free. It also has some nice option that I like....and I LOVE OPTIONS!
  2. The new without any question! The new is COOL and has more options.....I LIKE OPTIONS!
  3. I have done traces and I only see a spike and the occassional packet loss out on the backbone. The last trace I run with neotrace I saved and uploaded the html to my web site. Here is a link to the last trace I run 86 or so packets to our game server: http://bellsouthpwp.net/s/t/statecop/trace/trace090103.htm after running more test most of my dropped packets are between hop 11-16 This seems to be the only game I drop packets or get a lot of lag. While running this test to the server it doesnt look to bad so I think it is a setting in the game. When I get around a mortar shooting or gun fire I see a lot of choke and rarely see a little loss. Update... Getting packet loss at hop 12 which is Network id#:12 nLayer Communications, Inc. NLYR-ARIN-BLK2 (NET-69-31-0-0-1) 69.31.0.0 - 69.31.111.255 nLayer Communications Internal/Backbone NLYR-69-31-31-0-1 (NET-69-31-31-0-1) 69.31.31.0 - 69.31.31.255

I guess you are using Netscape or something now? Anyway sound like a problem with IE or your start page ....go to control panel and change you start page in internet options...if that doesnt work go to the MS site and download IE...lots of luck...its a pain to fix IE and sometimes easier to format. My friend screams everytime I say format...he says I think that fixes everything...hheehehe I say...."yeah it DOES!"
  5. Ok got in the server and noticed a lot of choke when people are firing....I was seeing this before though. I saw the choke as high as 6 and the loss hit 1. What do I need to do guys?BTW ping was around 60msMy info (dont make fun I have had it for 2.5 years..time for new system!):P4 1.8Asus P4T Mobo1024MB Rambus (PC-800)Linksys BEFW11S4 V.2 (firmware 1.45)Westell DSL modem (1500 down / 256 package) w/ bellsouth.netWindowsXP Pro (all updates) BTW no windows firewall or any other software firewall (just the router)Linksys NIC Geforce4 Ti 4800 (128MB)(drivers 45.23) only running @ 4X AGP (all my mobo supports)Creative Audigy Gamer (latest drivers)Sony DVD-R (A05)30GB HD 7200RPM Fujitsu (ATA100) *NTFS (main)40GB HD 7200 RPM Seagate (ATA100) *NTFSect....ect....ect let me know if you need more.................
  6. Well it is 1:24AM (CST) here and I am give out BUT we are FINISHED!!!!! I am running test and checking everything before I go to bed. I am way to give out and filthy from crawling under my house. We did a very nice job installing. It looks like an office install. My buddy does this on the side not to mention he used to work with bellsouth before coming to work as a cop so he had all kind of cool stuff. We put wall plated and everything in so it looks good and has a clean connection. I run the wires in PVC attached to the inner wall of the garage then under the floor (where I still have to tac up today). Well the 100KB speed thing the web site suggested wasnt exactly on the money on my puter. Here is the speed break down (I have not tested packet loss or ping yet)............I had the following when I was:-hardwire in my old room ~1220/215-my short time on wireless ~950/210 to 1100/216-NOW 1232/219 so it is a lot better than wireless but not a big jump from the way I had it priorMarshal's TestWireless 700/200NOW 1232/219 a big jump for him!I have a feeling all the pings and stuff will be fine but I will test them when I wake up......
  7. I found this site while browsing around some of my fav forums...while waiting on my buddy to come help fix my ethernet. (BTW HE STILL HASNT CALLED!) SO I am forced to forums around the net...and you all bare my misery as I post what I find interesting  Anway this is to all you people that have been engaged in flame wars in the forums. http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame1.html
  8. GJ Gator! It just keep getting better!!!
  9. The google toolbar is cool....I have used it for a good while. It has come a long way from the start. I helped beta test the first version. It was generic but worked. I love the ability to just click translate so I can read web pages in other languages. Make sure you install with all the advanced features. Guys turn on your site voting in the tool bar and mark the when you go to www.fa-thearmory.net so it will be marked higher on the search.
  10. Ok guys I should be back on soon as I hope to have my internet problem fixed this weekend most likely it will be Sunday. I am getting rid of this wireless junk for mine and Marshal's gaming systems in the house. I am keeping my wireless router for the non-gaming systems ie laptop, daughters computer. Anyway I have a buddy from work coming by to help wire my house with ethernet. He used to work for the phone company so he is going to split my DSL and voice line so I will have 1 data connection run over cat5e. Then we are going to do all the router drops in cat5e or cat6 if I can find any cat6 cheap. I may add a file server and print server while we are working on all this. I HOPE this and other stuff we have planned will up my connection speed about 100-150K not to mention get rid of that those dropped packets with wireless. If you have DSL and are not getting your full connection speed check this post out on DSLnuts.com I am going to be doing this plus a few other things.... http://dslnuts.com/DSLwiring.shtml

Can I bring my OC spray???
  12. I just copied the URL from the webpage I found the picture on. It was working yesterday. I just checked it and it appear the site is down.I could have put it on my host but I didnt care enough about the post to take the time to do that.
  13. We are getting up a bunch of cops to play paintball in the woods. I agree with you snowcrash about it doesnt help the actually performance. We are going to be playing in the woods for fun and maybe clearing some buildings again just for fun. The bright purple high dollar pro paintball guns that you see people using in the open fields wouldnt fit our needs. If you really want to have some fun there is something called a simunition round which is a bullet with a plastic paint filled bullet instead of being a lead bullet. It HURTS BAD but is great for training as you know you are hit and they are very realistic. The last SWAT school I went to I opened up on a guy with a M4 on 3 round burst....oh it was great fun! I had a blood blister that actually broke the skin on my thigh were a round hit me. I didnt have on a lot of protection so it broke the skin a was bleeding a little...it felt like I had really been shot. A few weeks later it looks like I had been shot and it was healing up. NOW that is REAL paintball! Here is a pic I found on the net of a simunition round. I will take a better pic of some of mine when I have time. http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/bunker/4300/fx.jpg
  14. Ok I had some problems with the PCI card today so I have not been on the server much. Well I took it back to the store and got the USB....it is even worse. I went from around 1250/215 on my connection to 800/200. I cant deal with that not to mention continued dropped connections. Anyway I am going to be around some but it may be a few days before I play much. I am going to get a buddy to run me some cat5 cable and make me a jack right from the telephone bock to my new corner! Think I am going to go for the gold connectors and so forth.
  15. Well I have DSL so all I really need is a phone jack run to the wall I am on but I dont feel like crawling under the house and doing it. It is easier to buy a $59 WiFi card. BTW qaulified ....ah maybe not but I know enough to be dangerous with some wires
  16. I got Marshall a Paintball gun but we still havent played. I have got to get one and I am looking at the tippmann A5 or some tricked out version like the one I found below for $600+ man thats a lot of money but I LIKE! When I saw this was a paintball gun (.68) I said ....I got to have that! I think I would skip the scope. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/opsgear/paintballguns.html http://store3.yimg.com/I/opsgear_1754_189902754 I know Okibi will like this one! http://store3.yimg.com/I/opsgear_1754_84775829
  17. true but ......No connection to the internet = Never even get to play
  18. Well my wife made me move my computer out of the bed room where I was all hard wired into my router  but to keep the peace I did  . Anyway ever since we moved into our new house everyone in the house has internet on 802.11b with me being the lone expection to the rule. Well the corner I was vanished to with my computer didnt have any way of getting eithernet to my puter exept through the air so I bit the bullet and bought a WMP11 which is the linksys PCI card with antenna. I left my router in the bed room and get good reception for the most part but I was wondering if any of you guys had tried the USB version and how well you liked it. I looked and both and spent $10 more dollars on this PCI version cause I figured it had more bandwidth but I couldnt help thinking about....Now how fast is USB again? The 802.11b can only hit 11Mbit and my internet is rated 1.5Mbit wich I only see about 1.2 but thats another story. I was wondering would it really matter? The advantage I see over the WUSB11 (linksys) is that I could get it up higher and "maybe" get a better signal. BTW I am getting about 87/87 signal/qauilty. This is what I got today for my computer: http://linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=36&prid=196 Here is the USB I am thinking about trying: http://linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=36&prid=435 What do you guys think?
  19. They maybe the same thing which you are right basically they are BUT the new one doesnt work for me.
  20. I will try that...but I like the windows messenger better.
  21. :? Ok guys I know a little about IPs,TCP,UDP, and routers but this one has me stumped. I can not use my voice chat on windows messenger 4.7 now. I think it is due to a shared file with the new version of MSN 6. I could use the voice chat priot to that. I have tried to open all the suggest ports and have seen articles one opening more ports but there a lot and I am not sure if this is what I need to do. I know LFM and some of you guys are well versed in this type stuff and any help would be appreciated! Here is what I have: DSL modem connected to a Linksys BEFW11S4 V.2 with firmware version 1.45. I am also running WinXP Pro and CAN use UPnP to my router however I do not like to or at least when gaming...It causes real bad pink spikes even when HL ports or opened completely. I have opened the following ports with no succes: IN TCP 6891 - 6900 IN TCP 1863 IN UDP 1863 IN UDP 5190 IN UDP 6901 IN TCP 6901 I have found a article at MS http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/deploy/worki01.asp Part of the article says the following but I am not so sure 60,531+ ports being opened: Audio and Video When negotiating an audio-video session, dynamic ports were chosen for the audio-video (AV) stream. Dynamic ports are used to enable the application to work regardless of what other applications are running on the system and using port resources. In the .NET Messenger case the session invitation was sent by station B to the address it received for station A. The following issues might arise if a firewall or NAT were present in these scenarios: The address provided by A in either the session invite for session signaling, or in the session acceptance for the UDP streams, might be an internal address that is translated by a NAT device an invalid (or fake) address for B to use to contact A. In other scenarios with the 4.5 client, A might initiate the session, but the same or similar addressing issues will exist. When B sends the session invitation to A, this invitation is sent using the IP address and port passed from A to B. For this to work, this port must be enabled to pass through any firewall between A and B. The actual Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) streams are sent using dynamically allocated UDP ports in the range of 5004 65535. Without a way to open these UDP ports on any firewall in the path dynamically, the streams will fail to reach their destination.
  22. let me add to my rant...spelling with numbers.........GOD! bash:
  23. when playing a game short hand such as "u", "r", and "rgr" are fine. I have taken statements from people in their teens and early 20's who use words to structure a sentence such as:Da Kat dat i saw over dere. I swear I have seen some that bad! It is all I can do to contain myself.
  24. [rant]I think Unwanted is on the money with that one. I started seeing the word as newbie playing online in about 1998 or so and some illiterate bunch of kids have "coolified" it which I suspect is because they did not know how to spell newbie. Same thing with words like "cos" short for the English word "because" or "dat" which is Ebonics for "that". While some of these words do not bother me that much because they are abbreviations if you will; others on the other hand do BECAUSE it shows the lowering of standards to our English language. I understand English is not an easy language and my sentence structures would show that greatly, but basically the misspelling of words like "that" I find just unacceptable. I guess I am turning into and old fart at the ripe old age of 26. [/rant]
  25. Here are the standard bit rates that you can encode to and the resulting quality...or so I heard 128 = MP3 quality (standard)160= Near CD quality192+= Full CD qualitiesWith that in mind...in theory you could download 192 bit rate files, convert them to .wav(if you software doesn't do it automatically) then burn at a very slow speed and you would not see any quality loss...Or so I have heard.I remember back in the day when you actually had to convert mp3s with special programs to .wav files before you burned. That is the problem...all the software has made it TO EASY so the masses are doing it.
