1. With the right settings using ED profiler, Elite Dangerous will make your 2080 RTX cry in VR. You're playing it on a monitor.
2. The game looks good! Can't wait until it's further along in development though. I definitely like the concept. It needs VR. It could be the best game of all time!
3. RogueSteward commented on Gator's gallery image in Star Citizen
4. I'm just using stock clock rates, I'm not overclocking it. There are many others in reddit with the same experience as me and not breaking 70C under full load with the founders edition card
5. Yes, I'm using EVGA Precision XOC. I was very skeptical running it since my card is an Nvidia Founders Edition GPU. But, it worked, and the EVGA program recognized my card and it's stock settings. Those are some low temps Rogue running at max usage! Very nice! I'm jelly! I guess I come from the old school where heat == wear and tear. I guess I've never read any documentation that shows a computing device will work better the hotter it gets. I've been taught that resistance and current create heat. Further, increased heat increases resistance. Therefore, the hotter a device gets, the more resistance there will be therefore more heat is generated for the same amount of current. The more heat that gets generated, well frankly, things begin to melt and degrade. The cooler a device is, the less resistance there will be, therefore it should run more efficient. Resistance will be less on a cooler device which basically means an electron has less impeding paths to get from one end of the circuit to the other and is why a cooler device can run faster and with more current.
6. FYI, I just bought a new graphics card from Nvidia. The temperatures were routinely hitting 83C, very toasty in my opinion, while the CPU was barely reaching 65C. Apparently, some new graphics card come stock with a fan profile set to a high running temp. My graphics card was actually set from the factory to run at 83C! I mean WTF! That is hot and I don't want my new card to die prematurely. I had to use a 3rd party program to set the fan profile, now the card barely reaches 65C. Yes, it was quieter before, now the fans spin up and it is louder, but at least the card is cool. It came from the factory with a max fan speed of 80%!!!!!!!
7. Wow! For $30 you can't go wrong. I may have to get it now
8. I'll be doing some gaming this weekend, but I wanted to wish everyone one a Mistress for Christmas
9. It's on sale in Steam for under $15 for the commander special pack. Excellent price for a great game!
10. I say this is a good thing. Keep the hacker OUT! j/k, I don't like hackers but, aren't you glad that you don't live in China? Pretty sure the Great Firewall of China can detect any VPN traffic and put a quick stop to it and or arrest/imprison those who use it. VPN use is of great interest to law enforcement in China, USA, everywhere really
11. So I just started using this program and I'm kind of blown away. It completely changes the graphics and improves them greatly. It makes the graphics so nice that it makes me wonder if I've had a configuration problem this whole time. Has anyone using this program notice the same effects? I could swear that I had my graphics setting to Ultra in the past. I used ED Profiler, just changed a tone map and draw distance. Now everything, from ship textures, to stars and planets look enormously improved.
12. This is the video from Frontier showing pilots walk around in Elite Dangerous. Unfortunately, it's still a long way off On Foot | Elite Dangerous Wiki | Fandom ELITE-DANGEROUS.WIKIA.COM On Foot activities, formerly tentatively referred to as "Space Legs", is a feature introduced in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey that allows the player to take direct control of their in-game avatar and explore the game without needing to pilot a ship, Ship-Launched Fighter, or Surface Recon Vehicle. On Foot activities allow players to interact with the galaxy in new ways, and also add two related Pilots Federation ranks to master. For the first time in Elite Dangerous, players can disembark from their
13. I friggen love 80's metal and hairbands...
14. Haha, there is a slave trade too. Haven't tried doing that yet! It might not be legal in all systems
15. Awesome man! We'll have to get a wing going and take you out to a combat zone to get you started with some credits. It's kind of a hard to begin this game because a new pilot has just so few credits to start with, and if your ship blows up and you're broke, you will have lost EVERYTHING. There were a couple times I nearly lost everything I owned because I went out with no money to repurchase my ship because I was just simply broke and loaded up with cargo, THAT I PURCHASED, for some space station and I accidentally flew too close to a star and barely escaped. I nearly lost my ship with all that cargo and had no credits left in the bank because I was taking a risk because I had no money. whew It almost seems like this game knows when you've got everything on the line and it makes things extra hard at that moment.
16. I found a program called OVRdrop, , and it has allowed me to place a monitor screen inside my cockpit. There are some glitches that I'm trying to work on. It has introduced a little bit of stutter at times in gameplay which I have mostly remedied by turning down the FPS of OVRdrop, also there is a mouse focus issue that I'm trying to work on too. It's all a setup issue however because I have that pretty much fixed as well. I had an issue where OVRdrop captured my mouse input during a warp jump and I nearly crashed into a star because I lost all controls. Fortunately, I recovered my controls and saved my ship! I fixed this issue by moving the OVRdrop input perimeter to another spot. It is neat to see eddb.io and inara.cz as well as notepad floating in my cockpit like my other holo-panels. I was watching Gator live stream Star Citizen last night while I was playing Elite and flying to Eravate.
17. You're going to love it Tom. There are some issues I'm trying to work out. Maybe Dually or Logrey or someone with VR experience can chime in. When I do trading runs, I log my materials and supplies purchases on a pad and paper so I can calculate cargo space and plot my route. I would also check inventories using inara and eddb on a second monitor. Well now with the VR headset, I'm not quite sure how I'm going to do this.
18. For the past two days, I've been playing Elite Dangerous in VR. It's amazing! I am now officially spoiled. As I sit in my virtual cockpit in my Asp Explorer, I look around and see my nice captains chair. I sit down, it has a nice headrest and I get ready to take off and explorer the vast darkness. I lean back, put my head back and suddenly I realize this chair is virtual because the headrest is missing and my head goes far back! I have already had several moments like this. I can't tell you how many times I reached out to press these virtual buttons on my console or how many times I've said wow! Gaming monitors do not do justice to video games. In VR, the station looks enormous, my ship creaks and groans as I travel through space, and suddenly I feel very small in this virtual universe. If you have an opportunity to try VR, you should!
19. Hey Gator, I have another really good link, https://eddb.io It's similar to inara.cz and it's good to go between both sites when trading. Thanks for getting me hooked on this game by the way. I'm gonna play this game a lot this weekend. I just purchased the Asp Explorer vessel but I'm pretty broke now and wasn't really able to upgrade it yet, so I need to make some credits this weekend I will be going to bfv soon but I'll wait for regular release now.
20. Here's to hope! This could be one of the greatest games of all time
21. Definitely need to add INARA - Elite:Dangerous companion INARA.CZ The companion site for Elite:Dangerous. The game database, market data, trade routes, outfitting, engineers, blueprints, crafting, Thargoid war, squadrons, logbooks, galleries, galaxy information and much more... to that list. It's a good website for searching regional commodities and outfitters. Highly recommend!
22. The new game play where it is harder to get ammo and health
23. Damnit Gator, that is a good review. Now I really want to play it! Can't wait for release for us regular folks! How do you like the attrition system?
