Legal cheats and hacks?
So how do we check for that? How many people have Logitech Gaming Software on their computers? Everyone who uses LGS can run a macro. Look at the controller below. There are 4 macro keys on the very top row. Does this controller as well as other macro enabled devices like the mouse become banned? Not only does this controller have four macro keys, they can be programmed on the fly. /monthly_2016_09/2016-09-09_12-57-58.jpg.ad7d26d5434d70cb1504bd9e7b61f212.jpg

Legal cheats and hacks?
As our group considers the ethics of morally atrocious behavior such as aimbot and wallhacker programs to those looking to dominate, I ask what about other 'legal' means to gain an edge? There are several things that can be done which could be considered 'gray area' cheats. In hardcore mode in some games, crosshairs are taken off and one has to use the iron sights or the scope to get a target. There is a soft hack for this; some gaming monitors such as the Asus allow for placing a crosshair overlay on the screen. There is even a more of a basic hack for this, draw a dot or use a dot sticker on the screen. The screenshot above shows both an Asus overlay and a sticker dot. Hardcore mode crosshair removal defeated. I'm pretty sure in a competitive environment, neither of these cheats would be allowed. So this brings me to the use of macros. There was a time when macros were absolutely not allowed and considered hacks. Remember bunny hopping scripts in CS:GO? VAC would auto-detect that and ban your ass. Bunny hopping could still be done but it was much harder. Well, some legal programs such as the Logitech Gaming Software and devices like the G700 mouse allow for macros and they can be used to definitely get an edge. Let's turn our sights towards the A-10 Thunderbolt BF4 Jet. Most pilots use the laser guided rockets or the hydra rockets as a secondary weapon. The JDAM bomb, while powerful, is difficult to use. To use a JDAM, one has to open up a secondary window, line up the target to crosshairs on the map, drop the bomb, then close the window. This requires no less than three timed button presses and two separate buttons. Yea, it's no problem while cruising at a ceiling of 700 feet with no enemy on your six, but during complex maneuvers such as strafing and pulling up at the last second, attempting a JDAM airdrop is extremely difficult because there is very little time to the airdrop procedure successfully. Often, a pilot gets stuck in the secondary window and flies right into the ground not knowing his bearings. There is a solution however. The JDAM airdrop procedure can be reduced to the press of a single button using a 'legal' macro. All one has to do is program the macro to open the window, wait a certain amount of time, fire the bomb, wait a certain amount of time, then close the window. The pilot no longer even has to look at that window, it really isn't necessary anyway. I admit, I used to do this. I could fly in, strafe some poor guys in a boat off the coasts of the Nansha Islands and as I leave them fairly damaged and pulling up the jet, drop a JDAM bomb, *BOOM*. Multikill. Happy RogueSteward. Well, then I decided to make another macro. I wanted a macro that pressed the 'Mouse 1' button fast, like once every 100 milliseconds, and a toggle on top of that. Because, I could enable the toggle and at the beginning of every round, get the vehicle I wanted. After all, who can compete with a computer program pressing 'Mouse 1' ten times a second. Score for me again, RogueSteward always get the vehicle he wanted. Certainly, macros would not be allowed in a competitive environment either. I wish I could show you a picture of my JDAM macro, or a picture of my 'Always Get Vehicle' macro which is exactly the name I gave to my mouse button, but I deleted them. They were truly a work of art. I tuned the timing between button presses in the JDAM macro to give me a definite edge and made the maneuver feel solid and easy. Every timing selection in that macro was carefully selected to make sure it always worked well. But I no longer have them. I decided to learn the JDAM drop the correct way. I began to feel that macro usage gave me too much of an edge. I really wasn't that good with the JDAM but my macro made me seem definitely better. This leads to a moral question for our group. How do we stand on the usage of soft hacks? Macros are a legal gaming tool now if one isn't playing competitively. Punkbuster doesn't police them, VAC doesn't ban for them. We can't really snuff out macros either. It's not like we can ban the use of Logitech Gaming Software or ban Asus monitors. I saw Gator's new controller, Axle has the same one. There are 5 macro buttons on the top row. Drool? Personally, I don't have a problem with macros, but I bet some do and I totally understand why. It gives an unfair advantage. But so does drawing a dot on your screen.

BF1 Server Rental Theory
Well here is my theory which is not based on any facts or evidence lol... I bet that community servers will be added at some point in the future because the outcry will be DEAFENING and after EA/DICE execs get their ass handed to them by the fan base and board of directors, we will eventually be able to rent servers. That was an interesting read though, I wouldn't put it past DICE to try and milk every penny they can from server rental revenue. But if I was a gambling man, I'd bet that DICE won't be renting servers to us and we will be able to get servers just like we did before.

I went Battlefield 1 Crazy :)
I'm going to stick with standard edition. I got a great deal on it at 20% off. I don't need to play it early and while it would be nice to get the skins or battle packs, I bet I'll use the same gun for a long time anyway. I'm hoping that I can get premium add on for 20% off when the dlc start coming out. I'm sure I'll find a deal somewhere.

Doesn't Amazon have 20% off the ultimate edition?

Did you cancel your Amazon order?

Arma 3 server ideas?
Ohh, I didn't see the zombie video. I'm not really into that. The video did look cool though and ARMA is amazing for having mods like that. I'm more interested in trying a fun PVP military game.

Arma 3 server ideas?
I will be there Friday night. Someone should make a post about how to play this mod and be successful. For example, how can I log in and get weapons? Can I get a vehicle? What is the objective? Etc..

Arma 3 server ideas?
Is wasteland like KOTH mode servers? I really enjoy ARMA KOTH. It's similar where there are three teams and have to occupy a city. I just wish we had a TAC fire team together to go and play some ARMA. I agree, I'm not into AI fighting at all.

Are you buying Battlefield 1?
That's weird that it joined you into an empty server. Do you by chance have your router set up for UPNP? Or port forwarding? Unfortunately, I had issues using UPNP and would have to reset my router often before playing some games. I went to port forwarding and yet to have the same type of problem. Here are the ports to open for BF1, there are a bunch of them... TCP 80, 443, 9988, 17502, 20000-20100, 22990, 42127 UDP 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300

Logitech G13 Gaming Pad (My Mapped Keys)
I like that there are extra keys to the left of movement. I've always thought that was a problem to have WASD set up as movement because there aren't enough keys to the left of WASD. There are times I wished I just had one more row of buttons to the left of Tab and Caps Lock to bind stuff to.

Are you buying Battlefield 1?
Well I can't change my vote, I originally voted undecided but I just bought the game this morning. I hopped on for the first time yesterday and saw all my friends in the same server which by itself is very important to me. The game itself just felt natural like other Battlefield games and was easy to pick up and play. All the control customizations I wanted seem to be there. I have this weird control customization that I really need or else I'm screwed where I have to use the mouse wheel to select between my primary weapon and toggle zoom and I was actually able to configure that. The fact that I could customize my controls like that means a lot and I wish more developers would allow customization like this. I joined up in Gator's squad and just had a blast. I was surprised how polished the game looked and felt. Maybe it the same game engine as BF4 but I am glad to say the game feels very polished for a beta and while it does have bugs, it isn't as bad as betas of the past. I'm very glad they didn't simplify the game as much as they did with Battlefront. Battlefield 1 seems to be a complex shooter and the skill level requirements set a high bar. I pre-ordered the game this morning using Amazon Prime and received the 20% discount for $47.99. Seems like a fair price. Pros: Great control customization, Great graphics, great setting and environment, complex gameplay. Cons: Can't rent our own servers, no hardcore mode (yet), still no female characters or skins

Logitech G13 Gaming Pad (My Mapped Keys)
That's pretty slick. What are you using the hat thumb controls for? Movement? Nevermind, just saw it looks like weapon selection What does the m1-4 keys do?

PC Spec Updates
This is my thinking too. I usually get the card with the better PCB and cooler and then I turn off overclocking completely. Heat kills. My 780 GTX gets up to 60C with aftermarket noctua fans. That's still hot but not nearly as hot as it would be with the stock fans, 70C, and overclocked it would get over 75C. I know they say these cards are made for that type of temperature but come on man... That's why they start failing after just a year or two because of all the heat stress.

PC Spec Updates
It seems that pretty much every 1070 card is the same except for the cooling. It seems the ftw card has a better cooler and heatsink so it can over clock best. Not that over clocking adds much anyway, maybe a few frames and heat.

PC Spec Updates
Yea, I do think larger fans are quieter and put out more air, plus two fans vs three fans, one less mechanical failure point. Any reliability reviews yet? I wonder which card of the 1070 family is built best

PC Spec Updates
Another interesting thing is the EVGA 1070 has two fans, the Gigabyte model has three fans. What are those fans on the EVGA, 120mm? I'll bet the EVGA is quieter with larger fans but maybe not. I bet the Gigabyte fans spin faaast and are loud

PC Spec Updates
I just looked into it. Founders edition is the 'reference' standard. It's interesting that the founders edition is more expensive but has a lower rated clock speed. I'll bet the founders edition can be clocked to the exact same levels as the overclocked cards though.

BF1 Minimum Requirements
That seems like a high minimum processor requirement!
