DoD has, quite possibly, the best weapon balance I have ever seen in a Halflife Mod. My only complaint gameplay-wise is I feel the M1 Garand needs more tweaking because it doesn't quite get as many one shot kills as it's counterparts the German K98 Mauser and the British Einfield. The Development team explained it had something to do with chestshots registering as armshots, and said they are working on it.But anyway, all guns are capable of one shot kills, just hit the head. As there's no armor, there's no issues of headshots not registering kills.All rifles are very powerful, and will produce many one shot kills, but work best at medium to long ranges. Those Carrying the K98 or Einfield will have a bayonette for close up work, and with the Garand you can stock punch a guy with the butt of your gun.The SMG's are great for the close up work, and work well enough at longer ranges to keep them from being completely useless.I greatly prefer the machine guns in DoD over FA. While, you can fire them while running, the recoil is so horrible, you can't aim worth a dang. If you want any accuracy out of your MG, you HAVE to deploy the bipod. However, most MG's will kill you with one shot, making them vital for holding chokepoints.... nothing a good grenade throw can't fix tho.This game sports the best scoped rifle system I've ever seen. Not only do they sport zero crosshairs when not zoomed and give you scope sway dependent on wiether your prone, crouched, or standing... but they go further to lower your movement to a crawl and give you a "Fade in" time in the scope. Anotherwords, when you zoom, the screen goes completely black then the view fades in. This prevents the "running sniper" trick we see common in other Halflife mods. However, for however tought the rifles are to used, they are counterbalanced by the fact they are even more powerful than the CS AWP.... one shot... anywhere... you are DEAD!Recoil is this game works exactly as recoil should, forcing you to adjust your aim as you try and spray and pray. Keeping your crosshairs on a guy while at full auto on a non-bipoded weapon is hard as hell :lol:The game itself wasn't hard to install. Some of my files in it got corrupted recently and I had to reinstall it. What I did is I deleted the files via the Steam interface, then using Steam, I reinstalled it and it worked fine. Just bring up Steam and hit the [Games] button and you should have the option to go to DoD. Just look up info on the game, and it should give you the option to get it.Anyway, I was thinking we should get our DoD guys, and those who want to learn, together sometime. Make a day, set up a listen server, and go at it

I voted "None of the above" myself. I've played with the FAMAS on and off, it's small clip and the fact I have to give up Heavy Armor to carry a claymore or bandages just doesn't suit my style. I can't hit the broadside of a barn with it anyway. About the only AR I can do anything with has been the G36 and occasionally the AK-74.I'm sticking with my Sterling or Saiga 12k.

Likewise.I can trace the error to the last update. The game ran fine earlier... I took a break, then played some Action Halflife. Before I could play AHL, I had to update. Played fine. Quit and played Mechwarrior 3 for a bit. I cannot get Steam to restart now.What really pisses me off, I deleted the full install of Steam to make room on my Hard Drive just 2 days ago because Steam seemed to have gotten stable on my system.... and I canceled my Fileplanet subscription to save myself a little cash this christmas. GRAHHHHHH!

Actually, you can't always blame the shooter of the arty, as it's not always his fault. It may not be the marker he personally put down, his may be elsewhere but the spawn marker was called out by the lamer.

Actually, Donut has a point. Even running VAC would be better than no software at all. If nothing else, it should lower the accusations some.

Helmet camming, to my understanding, works like this. From the sniper's view, he's looking and shooting OVER an object. But from the victoms POV, you can't see anything but the top of the sniper's helmet, if that much.In CAL, it's against the rules, at least last time I checked. Play in their playground, play by their rules.Personally, anything that can be countered by mediocre skill (and let's face it, grenades don't take an enourmous amount of skill), is fine by me. I'm with Mac and Wraith on this one.

Actually, CD was purposely made to just kick you from the server without reporting it for a noble reason. There are the occasional programs that could be mistaken as an illegle hack. When I played NS on a certain server back in the WON days, I occasionally get the "you have modifactions to your system" error that clears itself out when I restart. It would totally suck if the server logged me as a cheater when I haven't done a damn thing.On many many occasions, players are accused falsely by programs, and for this reason, CD is designed to just "keep you from playing" instead of pointing the finger. Nobody knows why you were kicked. I'm sure many of you disagree with this, as you are like me and like to know who the cheaters are so they can be properly lynched. However, having been falsely accused and kicked off too many CS servers, I prefer this approach.It's my understanding, back when I did my original research, that most hacks cannot be started up AFTER the game starts. Therefore a passive system like CD will work for most hacks of this type until CD itself is hacked. An active system would indeed be more efficiant at catching cheaters, I'll grant you that. But CD works for the Majority of them.At anyrate, it's way better than Punkbuster was.

I played many years trying to keep up with peaple with better pings than me. Then, I finally even the playing field up by getting broadband myself, only to get owned by the occasional cheater.Thankfully, they are very rare. There's a good reason for this... most hacks are extremely hard to install. Cheaters as a rule are lazy peaple, so very few peaple with the inclination to cheat actually succede in installing hacks.I hate cheats and cheaters in the MP world with more raging anger than you can imagine. It's one thing to cheat in a single player game, the only person affected is yourself. But when you cheat in a game like Firearms, you are affecting the gameplay of the peaple around you. Sure, you may be helping your team, but quite frankly, I'd rather lose honestly than win because I had a cheater on my team.Cheaters are no better than grief players who go out of their way to ruin your good time in my book. They bring out this need in me to reach thru the computer and grab them by the manhood and pull it up over their head! Which is another reason, at the moment, I'm not playing MP games at the moment.... I've had my fill of grief players for the time being.Cheaters... hate them... wish they'd all be dragged into the street and shot.Recognising them isn't as hard as you think, if you know what to look for. Most of it requires being able to watch the player from the first person view. If your playing CS and the player's view seems to jump all over while they are firing at somebody, you're looking at a recoil hack. If their crosshairs jump to somebodies head without overshooting the head even a pixel, that's an aimbot with a headshot script. (Some aimbots have a script that allows the crosshair to overshoot or not snap to a head so fast, this makes it a bit harder to spot) If a guy seems to look at blank walls for no reason on a regular basis, and occasionally shoots at peaple on the other side of said wall, that's probably a wallhacker, or even possibly somebody using "spiked" models.CD does quite a bit to stop most of this. It senses keyboard input vs what get's sent to the server client side, and if there's any differences between the two, than it immediatly disconnects you from the server. Most anti-cheats did this, but were unable to stop wallhackers as wallhackers just make a change in their OpenGL drivers that cause walls to appear as wireframe, something that couldn't be caught. CD get's around this by causing models of players you are not supposed to be able to see by moving the unseen players BEHIND you client side, thus rendering wallhacks useless. This doesn't affect the server because the server still registers players in their proper positions.CD itself does get hacked, thus the reason it gets updated regularly.How do I know this? Well, I used to get accused of hacking back in CS Beta days, so I know it sucks to be accused of it when you don't do it. I figured I wasn't gonna make any accusations myself unless I knew what to look for, so I did some homework. Yes, this did include trying to install some CS hacks, but I never was able to get any of them to work. Like I said, I figured I had no right to accuse anybody unless I knew what to look for.

Well, your first problem is running that dang Celeron. *chuckle* I work with those dang things at work, and I've learned to despise the Celeron. Not as much as I despise those old Cyrix CPU's, but pretty dang close. I have considerably more service calls concerning performance issues from customers using our Intel Celeron powered computers than I do from the customers running AMD Athlons.ATI chipsets used to be a terrible choice, but that seems to have changed. Going on the advice of a trusted friend, I bought this Radeon 9000 with 128 megs of RAM. I haven't had any problems with it. And from what I've been hearing, that seems to be the norm. ATI seems to have finally got it together and made a quality product.At anyrate, I'm happy to hear you are working out your probs. Shoot, we all go thru them from time to time. *chuckle* My system has been getting increasingly unstable. It may be time for me to do a clean install soon. *cringe*

Actually, Mazor told me not long ago that Marksmanship does absolutely nothing for the Saiga (but he also claimed that the Remmy was no more powerful than the m3, so that mean absolutely squat) However, yes, the Remmy does shot faster with Marks. Pity I hate the remmy and can't do jack with it. :/I do great with the Saiga without it anyway, if I'm wrong. A few days ago, only Enourmous was beating me in kills on the thing. Just get up close and go for the face.

Having them be in a different clan is not a problem, we're just after non-TA regulars here.

That's sony for ya, that's why I don't play Everquest anymore.It's my understanding Jedi's are very very powerful in this game. Won't be easy to bring those 2 down.

I only use 2 configs, both full heavy armor and a claymore. One config uses a Sterling, extra bandages, and Marks 1 (then Noma, then depending on my mood M2 or Stealth). My other config is Saiga 12k, First Aid 1 and 2.I'm a rusher, no doubt about it. Although I'm rather fond of setting claymore traps in unusual places. I prefer to detonate them remotely, as my claymore's seem to have this neon sign attached to them that only my teammates see that says "trip over me". I try to place them in a way where the claymore will be to the side or behind the victom.Occasionally, I'll get the sniper itch and set up with a SVD to pop off heads. But when you get down to it, I rush forward.I'm very objective oriented, so I'll often go for captures. I DO count capture points. My view is that this is a TEAM oriented game, and hitting those objectives are important to the TEAM. Therefore, any reward given to those hitting the objectives count in my book.I will add, that I do adore the close up fights (as reflected in my configs, using both the Sterling and Saiga. Just go wide open and aim for the face. Sprint away and reload, come back and empty another clip. (Thus noma being my second choice).However, my greatest satisfaction comes from pulling off a flank and ripping thru 2 or 3 enemies on one clip from behind.

I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. I found myself a nice little hill just outside the airfield on Wake. I was picking peaple off in the airfield and the two neighboring outposts anytime they decided to hold still for anything One guy came back to the same spot to snipe THREE times before he gave up.At anyrate, I figured out most my problem is latency issues. I've got a friend who's gonna loan me the full version as well. I may end up requesting it as a Christmas present if I end up liking it in the end.
